After a few bad starts I managed to find a decent amount of stuff in Electro and heading towards Staroe using the dayzdb map to help navigate.

I think the food and drink mechanics need a bit of change. Besides being buggy because it's such an early version, it's just taking all the fun out of it. Seems (to me) that you spend almost 90% of your time trying to find any.

I see it's still full of dicks. Why would if you have a gun would you go well out your way to chase and shoot a guy with a shovel. Even back when we were all running about with silenced m4s and all the other kit, there was no point in shooting people without a gun. Oh well, back to running lots more. It's certainly the best motorbike helmet finding simulator I've ever played.

I had to kill a noob yesterday as we were desperate for food and couldn't find any. Was banking on him having some beans. Never found out as his corpse de-spawned just as I reached it!

Thankfully I found a tin of fish int he next building and then we logged leaving out party member barely able to see but at least away from being unconscious.

The main reason I left DayZ mod was the hackers and I'd forgotten how good it can be, especially when you work together as a team

Really enjoyed playing it again yesterday

Every feckin server seems to be picked dry. All I can seem to find is mountain backpacks, crowbars and chest holsters.

Even Balota yielded nothing more than damaged M4 parts.

The military camp up between Vybor and Kabanino had loads of M4s when I popped by. I spawned at Novy Sobor which was pretty handy!

Bit more success this time. I spawned across from the island that used to have the Heli and made my way up to Berezino. From there I seem to have wondered NW to the eastern airfield. Found very little that's of use right now but got a bigger backpack and an M4 which is good! I've also got a box of 300 5.56 but I've no magazine for the M4 it appears so can't use it and couldn't find one :/ Arghh. Also got a scope but it's not compatible.

I have a couple of mags but only about 10 rounds. Sounds like we need a PH Alpha session.

Yeah might be a good plan! I'm currently just to the side of devils castle.... ironically somewhere I never went when playing it before.

Haven't some across anyone else yet which means I will probably get killed in the next 10 min now I've typed that. Seems a bit easier the further north you get, it takes quite a bit of surviving just to get this far up the map so there's much more loot lying about which is nice.

Hmm unconscious so may as well be dead :/ Somewhere near the group of buildings where there's a well to the east of the NW airfield.

I'm off to watch Sacriels live stream and pretend I don't suck that badly at this.

Started again and spent a few hours getting from Electro, Balota, Zelenogorsk then up and across to the NE airfield. Now have an M4, bunch of ammo, camo gear, a pistol (albeit with no mags/ammo) etc etc. Now somewhere south of Starry I think (I miss GPS) but not too sure exactly where. Yay for success!

Spent a little while on this last night, I can't decide if graphically I hate it or love it, it certainly comes across (imo) more cartoony than Arma 2 ( I feel like im playing GTA rather than a mil sim mod) and that is a shame, but the scenery looks much smarter.

The way they have set up the loot spawns is an absolute pain in the arse, although more realistic its a pain looking everywhere and having to crouch under a bed and attempt to hover over the item.

In Cherno at the moment, and a lot of thought has certainly gone into the new areas, love it.

Any recommendations on where to head now they've mixed the loot spawns up?

I've had most success just heading north almost straight away and not bothering with the coast. With the stuff not respawning once someone picks it up, then unless you're on a server that has recently restarted it can take ages to find anything at times.

Apparently there's a new military place near Zelenogorsk but I never found it. The NW airfield has a shed load more buildings and more chance of finding anything. I watched Sacriels beginner guide that explained the thirst and hunger a bit better and it's getting easier now that I know how it works. Once you eat/drink enough it lasts a long time. When you spawn I'm pretty sure you're very low on food/drink cause you're hungry almost immediately.

I don't know if this level of detail is needed and hopefully it will be less of a chore with item respawning but it certainly feels more like surviving than it ever did. Even if it's mostly you starving to death and not dying of zombies.

Graphics looked more impressive once I turned off any sort of motion blur and whatever post processing makes it look cartoony. I hated that in Arma anyway and always disabled it. Once that was done I don't think it looks too unrealistic.

Cheers, going to check out that guys youtube guide, I became "Sick" and I have no idea what it was all about, I became sick in cherno and lasted all the way to the NW AF so I couldn't have been that sick... but I am now unconscious so i'll watch the video and give this a go after Christmas.

Best tip I took from them was don't eat any rotten food, it makes you sick, then you never find what you need to fix it and die. That happened to me a few times before I realised, and beginner vid outlined it quite clearly. I think there's various ways you can become sick or infected in it, but that's def one to avoid. I to made it to the airfield before (with plenty food and water) then just keeled over unconscious and that was me.

I haven't yet become sick from drinking water out of ponds even though I keep finding water purification tablets, so I assume that's no in the game yet.

The way the blood and health and how things regenerate is separated isn't too clear to me despite the explanations I've seen. In general it goes with the fact there's a real lack of real feedback or status indicators. This makes it really difficult to figure out what's going on. You can eat and drink until it says he is full but that's quite a bit more than needed to make the thirst or hunger indicators go away etc.

Do we have a server that we're using?

I'd like to get back into this.

Would like to get everyone playing together again yeah! I've just been picking ones at random but no idea what one I'm using and haven't played with anyone yet. Don't know if one of the other guys have a favourite server or something?

I've stopped playing at the min but I've left while on a hill overlooking Stary and hadn't seen any players for hours. Usually up that way you didn't need to wait long to come across someone, and it's not like the server is dead.

If a bunch of us do all started playing again I'm happy to pay my part for a server once we see some more substantial updates (like properly working zombies and loot that respawns) if anyone wanted to do that again. i checked out the Multiplay server cost with the discount code Sacriel gave and it's about 50 quid a month. Suspect the alpha to beta and then final release will take a fairly long time so there's no real need to rush with that.

The army camp isn't in Stary anymore so it seems a bit quieter. Had quiet a bit of action on the top of green mountain, usually a rifle or two up there and easy to find with the massive radio mast.
