I'm not sure if they've made some changes but I haven't joined a dark server in a while now. A few patches have been released since I started so perhaps there's been a server update or they've had the times changed.

Joined two or three dark ones today, but it has been predominately day light servers, doing a little better this time got decent set of kit, bodies disappear far too quickly though, I barely have time to get to the body, let alone loot it!

Gah! I am low on blood and this means my vision has gone blurry, very. I can't see what an item is until I am 2 foot away from it and Zombies just appear out of nowhere as i can't see them until I almost walk into them. I can't find enough food to increase my energy (I'm fine on the water front) so my blood regenerate naturally or a willing volunteer to give me a blood transfusion.

So I have spent the last hour wandering around like I am heavily intoxicated.

I've never played the game before today, any helpful tips?

Yesterday within 15 minutes of getting the game I was shot and killed onsite by a man in full camo with a rifle. I had NOTHING on me.

I just received a blood transfusion from a Frenchman. My vision has returned slightly, but not all the way. Still got blur-o-vision.

I had some dick chase me just the same and kill me too and wasn't amused. At that point, short of being lucky and knocking them out with one punch there's little you can do.

Just now I have got an M4, crap loads of rounds, camo etc and I wouldn't shoot people like that, I've just avoid them. Used to be in the mod when we played in a group we just shot anyone who was armed on sight because it only takes a few times of trying to help someone and getting shot in the back for you to stop. This was especially the case further north as the guys were usually well armed and looking for a fight anyway.

I get a feeling from watching the popular streams and players that there's a fair amount of 'community' backlash against people who just head down to the coast and kill new players, which is good to see. Looks like it's fairly popular to head down and kill bandits, help people out etc.

Turn the post processing off and blurry vision will go away. It's very overdone and (made worse by a bug or not) just makes it look crap and way harder to see anything.

I think that part of the problem is though, with the Standalone anyway, is that once you are geared up there's nothing else to do. In an ideal world you'd wander about helping people, but as we all know no good deed goes unpunished in Chernarus, so invariably you're killed by the very person you've helped.

Now although the Standalone has very little content at the moment, I could see the same problem in the original vanilla version back when it first came out. You'd head north, gear up with a sniper and ghillie suit then go off killing people because you'd effectively reached the limit of what could be 'gained'. I did it myself a few times - find a mate who's a spotter and sit on one of the cities sniper hill's and try and take people down from long range, that was fun.

Of course its now fun to be able to hold people up, handcuff them and steal or help them, but as we all have gear paranoia once we're tooled up, most of us end up shooting on sight for fear of being killed and losing our gear.

Just started playing the standalone with some friends and having a blast, shame it's a bit low on content but I think it's got real promise.

Been killed once already by some angry russian guys with machine guns, but now we've headed up north near Berazinhio (sp?) to tool up. Only one of us (4) has a gun so far, the rest of us chopping up zombies with axes wearing weird clothes.

Can't wait for vehicles and more guns!

They've made ALOT of modifications to the map too, almost all buildings are now enterable and there's alot less zombies, though what zombies there are are much harder hitting.

Got the stand alone and its back to the dayz running sim. Met another player who I didnt kill me which was nice then fell off a ladder and have broken my legs I guess as I can no longer stand up. The inventory says I am fine. Need to tweek the grapic and control settings as they are not good straight off.

Looks like it has promise tho i just hope you can start building stuff soon

Anyone been to the northern tip of the map lately? Where there used to be that inlet in the North East corner is now a small port and town with railway. The whole northern area of the map is completely redesigned, new hills, mountains and roads.

There's a few areas that have roads laid out in patterns that look like they'll have another big city up there. I even found a football pitch!

Will be interesting to see what they do with these areas, also when they put them in. Hopefully soon as it was very weird finding a completely new area but with just roads and concrete areas awaiting buildings.

I noticed the inlet part looked different on DayZ DB but never went to visit.

There's been so many changes that parts where you spent loads of time in the mod can be pretty hard to find your way about. Our base was always near Zelenogorsk, and I could navigate about without any help, but found it difficult to work out where I was facing and stuff now.

Heard a bit about some secret stuff up north so guess that's what they were talking about. Just watching Sacriels stream just now, it's been pretty entertaining even though there's so little content in the game.

You can have 2 chars on the go at once now.
Normal servers and Hardcore (1st person only) servers have different hive database.

The Hardcore also seems to have less combat loggers and server hoppers, but they do have more squads.

O'h and last patch is meant to have defibs working, so save those 9v batteries if you're in a squad.

Ah S8, I saw you logging in earlier, just as I was re-downloading the Eve client! Bad time for games for me as about to move house but will hopefully hook up in a few weeks for a catch up?

Haven't dived into this yet. Will probably wait until Beta or later, but following the progress with interest. Watching some of the streams is quite fun sometimes.

Apart from improving the 'end game' to help stop the mindless shooting, I think they need to add incentives for not killing people on site.

This is supposed to be a zombie survival game, so I think they should be focused on increasing the amount of zombies, and also increasing the threat they pose. That might go some way to add a reason to actually work together with others instead of just looting their stuff, though you're always going to get those troll types hehe .

It will be a big step when you can finally start creating communities, and setting up bases.

Dean said a long time ago that player's characters would kind of "level up" by doing things, so over time if you acted like a medic then your character would become better at medical stuff, same if you acted like a mechanic. And some things would only be doable with a higher level character. But it all gets reset when that Character dies. We also have right now loot being ruined by the bullets killing you, and with loot becoming harder to get hold of as they bring in more lower level loot and the steps to stop server hoppers more people will be wanting to take people alive. May still kill them in their underwear but that is more time for backup to arrive.

They are going to up the zombie count, they just left it below 1000 to start with so they could get other things in before hammering the performance coding for the zombies. They are making the zombies harder all the time too at the moment.

I heard Dean say on Sacriel's stream the other day that backpacks would be harder to come by but at the same time server persistent, even after restarts. So I guess the items in them will be saved too, there by giving us mini tents you can place ANYWHERE ]: D (sawn off shotguns will become more useful from this as you can store them in a starter kit bag then).

I just can't wait until they have the private hives. Hardcore server with no way of server hopping for loot or ghosting WOOOT! (Also have a few of those servers as favs and you got more than the 2 character at a time you have at the moment; Reg and Hardcore.)

No it's not free, it's like £20 on Steam. Keep in mind that's it's very much an Alpha version and nowhere near finished. Some of the latest bugs have been pretty major and there's fairly limited content. I don't know that you'd miss out too badly if you were to wait a while.

S180 - I've been watching him and the other guys streaming quite a lot lately and I like the direction the game is going, and I see why for someone who wants a more realistic experience first person hardcore servers make such a massive difference. The bit where the guy shot Dean was hilarious, or when they killed the guy in the tin shack.

I'd certainly be interested in playing again if there's enough of us on here to make it as fun as it was. I think we could do a really good job of things and have a laugh if we had quite a number of people, judging by some of the squad play in the streams.

I play now and again with some old Eve Online corp mates, and we've just all got back together in Eve to since I restarted the old corp. Once base stuff is possible then could combine the 2 groups to get more numbers then ]: )
