DayZ: Arma 2 Zombie Apocalypse Mod
Discussion
Dean Hall just announced he is leaving DayZ and Bohemia to set up his own company. Not sure how the standalone will work out now, not sure exactly how much input he has been having recently to be honest.
Edit: Seems like he isn't leaving for a year. "Until my work is done"

Can not wait to try this out. Got myself a new PC yesterday, just need to wait till payday before I can get arma 2!!
I haven't played the standalone (SA) version but I think the mod has zero dev support these days so you might be better off getting that. There are advantages and disadvantages to both though I believe (since the SA is early access alpha). I would hope the SA version will be better than the mod in time ..130R said:

Well I was having a think about this afternoon, and I am gonna go down the standalone route, as you say its early days for it but it will be good to see it grow and developDev update. Things are sounding good - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19ehC8kwoWE&lis...

Just bought SA through Steam. Anyone active on a regular basis? Will be hoping to get in a few hours over the weekend if possible and the game is definitely better with others rather than running around by myself!
I got it last night, however was quite steaming by the time ti downloaded so first outing was not successful. I will be on this evening and a lot of the weekend. The 'game' is bloody horrid by all accounts. Not really made up my mind about SA yet. Been having a crack at Breaking Point for ARMA3 and think that's a nice mod. In a similar style to DayZ, but nicer skin and more items to get. With Epoch coming to ARMA3 (rumoured for Summer?) I think that'd be a good addition. Still, SA has MASSIVE potential so glad I purchased it despite the lack of vehicles being an absolute ball ache. Even push bikes would be an improvement!
Loving this game.
So many tense moments I axed three people to death in one of the cites I was 90% sure they'd of killed me if not well they did call out there's a guy with an axe sneaking up on us
http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus if you're struggling on kitting up this map helps loads just open it in your steam web browser.
Trying to work my way round with a few friends some very annoying bugs but I do get it is an alpha what better way to alpha test than having 25k players a day?
Hmmm worrying the head dev will be leaving in a year? maybe he means when it's in beta

Had a decent go at it last night, spawned in near the coast and ran for the hills.
Found one of the castles and found a compass, yellow jacket and fancy trousers with 6 boxes to hold stuff. Spawned out for dinner, then back in again, server must have reset went back in the tower and got a stove. Was seriously hungry though so headed north until the 1st road then followed the signs to the nearest town, ran for ages and found a smallish town with a firestation.
Went up the tower looking for loot and noticed a pair of legs on the top of the main building. YASSS first dead body so I was thinking gun, tin opener, food, water. Ran round, up the ladder and he had the square root of fk all. Couple of bullets whizz past me so run for cover while trying to loot the houses for food.
Then *whack* *whack* hit by an invisible Zombie. I only discovered yesterday if you double tap W and hold you sprint, the zombies can't keep up with you but they somehow port and hit you anyway!!
I am gonna keep with it, I was stupid to think after watching loads of videos on youtube I would go in and be mlg

This game is so addictive, been playing it the last few days.
First day I got some good gear then got shot and looted by some bandit fker.
Next couple of lives I died from Zombies before I could get the much needed Axe (best way to kill Zombies without making noise) which takes them down with one hit.
I've now grouped up with two mates, we found a couple of towns on a server with only two other people in that hadn't been looted, have a fully loaded back pack, tons of ammo, Mosin, 1911, compass and med stuff.
Tomorrow we're going for a raid.
It can be frustrating when die and lose all your gear, then having to run ages to find your mates without dying of hunger or thirst, but its great once you get to a level where you can sustain & defend yourself

I must get back on this - need to rig my TrackIR up again.
Yes, you must.I'm currently browsing the wiki looking at which gear I should aim to get, there are some new weapons (side arms mainly) since I last played, the only thing that puts me off it at the moment is the lack of "storage space" there are no vehicles, tents etc.
