Ok, just bought this on Steam, did the mod install and found myself online in a few minutes. A lot of servers were complaining about ver 1.6, so I used the DayZUpdater and it appeared to have worked. The files it updated where 1.6 though (?) and then when I tried to join a server I got various messages like Authentication issue or some such frown So not finding a way to uninstall the mod, I just binned the @directory and put 1.6 back on.. now that doesn't work either.

Can anyone point me to a known working good version of 1.7? I'm going to uninstall the whole lot and start again.. at least I got zombied twice in the few moments when 1.6 was actually working hehe

What usernames are people going by? I'm Clive Blackwell as of today. I tend to hop between the UK and EU servers though for a reasonably even game spread. Shame bandits keep killing me. I need to get a gun and just camp hard. Get a few kills under my belt to relieve stress.

Managed to have a go of this. Quite enjoyed it on my 3rd attempt, got spawned near a really decent area. Lots of parts for cars (and even a helicopter rotor), an Enfield, ammo, food and water. Had to take a few zombies out (9 in total) which was fun as well (they move quickly though!)

Didn't really know what to do next though. I was on a fairly populated server but didn't see a soul apart from zombies.

Does the server save your 'state' or do you start again every time you load the game? Also is there a way of saving your favourite server?

Apologies for stumbling into this thread. As an old Operation Flashpoint junkie and having played the odd zombie mission on there I am mildy disturbed by some of the posts.

Having never played the mod, I always felt that OFP/ARMA/ARMAII always worked best when played with a team element.

Just logging onto a server to play a solo game seems to be a waste of resources. Those chaps at BI certainly know how to develop quality software.

ok ffs .. ill try it out

The DMR is ridiculously loud it's like a zombie dinner bell, so basically useless except for PvP.

Also I found a heli crash site but I think they are bugged, so no loot, which was a bit disappointing.

Did really well scavenging, got a winchester with about 70 shots, a map a compass, a watch, binos, everything i need to feed off hunting and made an online friend so we stuck together on TS3 too. was real fun, until he got a broken leg for looking through a window...

we cralwed to a military base and didn't see one zombie so shot it... the rest of zombies in the vicitniy rushed us and well that was that... starting again this evening..

I know its a beta.. but crikey what a pain to even get in a game.
Im not 100% sure on the versioning, and how that works.

I have managed in 2+ hours of trying to get in 2 games, Game 1 I was getting about 1 fps? then the second game all was good, but I was on a Russian server.

Can someone explain the sketch with the server, also if you move server do you start a new char?
I also seem get a red ping most of the time, and spawn inside someone else and cannot move.

Best way to ensure compatibility is download a mod installer
let that do it's work

then download and isntall the latest arma2 beta patch
said patch will have a build number

once installed go into your ARMA2:OA directory and copy the batch file that starts soemthing like "OA beta launch"

name the copy: Dayz beta luanch

right click on it

press edit

then scroll down to the line that says blah blah blah 1% 2% 3% etc

type -mod=@dayz just before 1%
save

lunch this file

if all went well the splash screen will actually say : ARMA2, DayZ, beta

in server list just type in the number of the build patch you have just downloaded (i.e. 94135)

this will filter all servers that run the same patch as you.

from there you really should not have any incompatibility issues. it won't save you from ste and poorly set up servers, but server/client mismatch won't be one of them.

I have quite good luck with the NY servers generally, but yes, it's a total pain at the moment (it's alpha currently not beta btw).

Kind of curious as to how a noob will get on? Both Arma2 games should be downloaded by the time I get home so will have a crack on tonight but as a total military sim noob will I struggle to even make it 5 mins?

I'm still alive in the same game I posted a screenshot of on Monday, I think I'm on about 92 zombie kills now. You just need to be patient, walk and crawl around zombies and everywhere else I crouch run and keep to cover. There is still the chance that someone will shoot you in the head before you see them though (welcome to Cherno, bang!)

The easiest thing to do would get an area and try control it. Be patient and take your time to make decisions. I've been hanging around the main cities and not been getting on well as I've been looking for a fight. Don't trust anyone you don't know either. Keep you eye on them at all times!

Just stick to friends. Try and avoid people. Shoot first if you are going to shoot and don't miss. You'll be fine!

Server-wise I stay you the UK {SAS} server (v1.6) and its reliable. I can throw up the 1.6 code file if people need to download it though. That's the only change between 1.6 and 1.7.

Interested in this but i don't have ARMA CO. £25 from Steam seems steep though, anywhere cheaper? Is it really unstable?

Don't buy it just for DayZ, you'll be disappointed. Buy it because it's AMAZING, the best military sim ever created imho. Hours of fun to be had in the game proper, before you even go near mods....

You can get it on Amazon for not a lot IIRC.

You can get it from the devs direct for £20. Steam or no steam - your decision. The game is amazing. I bought it for FayZ alone and regret not playing it before now. It really is that good.

Seriously - try the UK SAS server. If you filter to 'DayZ Zombie Mod - UK' and it will be there. Usually quite busy and the time zone is -2 hours UK time. Good bunch of regular, decent players on the most part. The majority are there to be a survivor, rather than a bandit. Refreshing!

I'll be on there under Clive Blackwell most days/nights.
