He's the best level 9 I've played with, reset his stats i suppose? didn't realise you lost your rank. was level with him at one point but got switched over twice, but the game did go on for an age. I do like the the way the guns fire in bf3 hope the real bf4 is more like it. Oh and kept pressing R2 to spot..wtf is that all about.

Must be a new account set up by an experienced player - that account has no history at all, no forum posts or platoon memberships for someone who rips it up for 2 hours with a 5-1 KDR.

If you reset stats, you still keep all your weapon unlocks - he started afresh.

I've only spent 30 mins of BF4 Beta - just couldn't get on with it. Hopefully the finished game is a lot better than the Beta.

Not too worried about the Beta. It took me ages to adapt from bad company 2 to COD, and then just as long to adapt to bf3. I recently been playing bf3 & 4, gta, assassins creed and crysis 3, so its no surprise the controls are unfamiliar. Couple of nights play should have me dialled in.

Have to say I’m liking the beta, suspect it won’t be my favourite map, but all in all I think it moves things on nicely. Snafu gave me a silver bullet when he explained how to disable the in game battlelog which stopped me dying every time I tried to spot. Its tantalising having the fixed gun emplacements near the spawns pointing out to sea and the introduction of boats will mix it up as I find the map a bit one dimensional. Loving the fact that recon have c4 as they can’t be bothered to come off their sniping spots to get my tank, I’ve only been c4’d a handful of times. Can’t wait to get my mines back though. Busy at home so not going to bother with it on the PS3 but can’t wait for the PS4 now.

I wrote a while ago to the effect that my odds during one-to-one shoot outs were probably 90% in favour of the opposition, with me only being able to fire off a few rounds before they had already managed to kill me....sometimes what seemed like being able to shoot around corners.

Some replies mentioned internet connection speeds and also various server lags...... but I found out that once I had changed ISP to a faster service that the issue was still there.

I think however I have found the root problem.... my TV has a long input lag time. Even though the lag is measured in milliseconds I think I am playing the game about 0.5 seconds behind everyone else, which would explain a LOT !

How can this be checked/fixed?

From what I gather some TVs have a 'game mode' whereby the amount of image processing is cut down to a minimum. This enables image lag time to be reduced to that particular TV's minimum.
Unfortunately on some TVs this minimum lag time is still enough for other players to beat you in one-to-one encounters due to them using different TVs with even shorter lag times.

My Toshiba LCD doesn't have a 'game mode' and doesn't fair well with others on the market.

The fix, well my route is to upgrade my current TV to a better brand/model, which means forking out the best part of a large G. frown

I wouldn't worry too much about TV lag - server specific lag has much more of an impact and can't be controlled.

I have played BF3 far too much and although you won't notice lag too much on big maps where split second delays don't make much of a difference, if you play a lot of the CQ DLC pack, you will really notice how much of a difference different servers have on how well you play because it's constant "glitch" battles, i.e. split second reactions required.

After 70 odd gunmaster games, it was clar to see that the server can make the difference between you winning 90% of 1 on 1s and finishing first and winning 50% and finishing mid-table.

Well having read this page I checked my TV and it has a game mode. And it makes a helluva difference to my killing. I am now winning 50% of face to face confrontations.

I notice lag on all maps - but then I have a 3mpbs speed which I usually think is the problem. I used my kit (TV and PS3) at a friend's house many moons ago who had 6mbps and I was MVP 3 out of 4 games with a 3:1 KDR in every game so I am sure speed makes quite a difference.

However here in the sticks I can see the enemy running or reloading and yet they shoot me dead. Or on my screen the guy is facing the other way as I sneak up behind him but he shoots me. I can crash into the ground or buildings when flying because they aren't there on my screen. I have situations where I see an enemy in front of me and I shoot him only to discover there are two of them but the second guy wasn't on my screen so I didn't try to shoot him.

Judge,

As per your message:

1. FPS Drop

Only occasionally happens (once every ten games), but quite frankly it's helluh irritating. Would expect it on a 'finished' product at all.

2. Client Side Hit Detection

The net code in BF3 was notorious for this, being able to run around a piece of cover and still end up dead. It's slightly worse IMO in BF4. Turning off network smoothing helps a bit, but not massively. Laggy bar stewards are a nightmare, especially at range (600m+) where sniping is truly a black art of "Where do i think he's going to jump/rubber band to next".

3. Disparity

Still present is the argument that a pistol is more powerful up close than a rifle, bolt action or not. Hardcore goes some way at redressing this issue however.

4. HUD

Speaking of hardcore and the hud in normal too, i find the visuals too overpowering, more than once now i have been killed by an enemy sat right in the area the icon overlays.. Seems too opaque to me.

5. Kit specific load outs (Defensive, Offensive, Spec Op)

I have experienced an intermittent bug where i do not have access to the items upon which it states are enhanced, for instance, i was fully charged up, so should have had 6 C4, i only had three...??? Next round, 6 again...

6. Leveloution...

Shanghai isn't what it looks on the high end trailers. I do not experience masses of dust hanging around making sniping a chore and generally obscuring the view... Most of the levels feel that their 'dramatic events' were an afterthought. The dam is deffo one here, now I'm sure if you break a dam all hell breaks loose, but not on BF4...

7. Fast jets in Dawnbreaker

Why? Hoping they give us an extra hell in the next patch and remove the pointless fast jets.

8. I need a PS4..

My controller is broken, and on that basis i'm going to get a PS4. No really, it is, but i believe the PS4 version of this game will be the outstanding product we were all expecting. The PS3 version is a port at the end of the day - and by all accounts not a good one. Plus Xbox One and PS4 cross combat sounds good.

Other than that the game is pretty good. I like the fact i can drop a goldeneye radio telescope dish on an unsuspecting tank/person. I generally like the way it feels (despite people saying it feels like more like COD) - I like the BFBC2 touches too. I do miss maps like seine crossing though!
Lots of people moaning about the Recon class, but the fact is, i'm spending a lot of time with carbines & long rifles, up close causing carnage and blowing up tanks. C4 is still unlock able for support, so HMG gunners fear naught biggrin

EDIT - turned down the HUD... Seems to work well! Except being able to see the minimap! Oh and today i seem to be experiencing "Killed in action" random deaths....

Don't be, i just turned it off after getting seriously angry from pumping two magazines into a blokes head at point blank to just have him kill my entire squad. Its flawed from the off... Pathetic net coding. Lost count of the amount of instakills too..

I'm with you on this Judge - I'm not running BF4 on anything other than a Playstation 4, making do with the very entertaining GTA V on PS3 until then...

A decent PC monitor will have virtually no input lag and be cheaper than a new TV.
