frown It's definitely your graphics card. I have a 1.6GHz i7-720 with 8Gb, so comparable systems otherwise, but with a GTX260m. Runs good, although stutters slightly when you toggle the headlights on/off.

I wonder why the mobile graphics cards are so poor for gaming. unless you go for insanely expensive laptops.

They need too much power and create too much heat in mobile environments to be put into your average laptop.

Still having great fun with this, even after finding all the packages. The axle articulation and tyre deformity is ace. You can even see tyres becoming clogged with mud if you let them spin away in a rut, then it clears up on the road.

With a bit of tinkering, I've got a 6x6, 6-wheel steer beast with extra work lights. Even trees have a hard time stopping it, if you get going and shift into high range with diff locks. thumbup

It is ruining the game for me frown

when I first start the game up it runs ok for about 30s then bogs down and stutters like mad.

It runs really badly on the lappy (the truck doesn't appear on screen, just the lights and the terrain is all glitchy. I think it might be a Vista bug. On the 8 year old XP desktop it runs very slowly with lots of lag. )

For the rear steer, set the middle wheels to -.25, and the rears to -.5 it's a lot more controllable than setting it to -1.

Set the TorqueRatio on the fron wheels to 0.2 for 6x6 (with diffs locked)
To increase the top speed, try setting the Top Speed to 40 or 50
<PrimaryTransmissionRatio TopSpeed="40.0" WheelRadius="0.54" />

There are a few video tutorials on Youtube that explain the process, but he doesn't really understand the XML, he's just tweaking by trial and error until some thing cool happens.

To unlock the addons earlier, go into the Addons directory, and for each addon, there's an xml file.
set NumLoadsRequired="0" so it's available straight away.

I may have figure out how to get the Kraz covered wagon onto the Kamaz, watch this space!

For those that have already played Rigs of rods, how does this compare graphically, and in terms if physics realism? I was tempted to try it at the weekend, but the graphics looked pretty rubbish?

EDIT: Woo! Covered wagon, and spare on top! It'll probably be really top heavy now…

Fixed it biggrin

Bloody laptop was defaulting to the on board graphics instead of the proper video card, once i had forced the damn thing to stick onto the graphics card the game is fantastic, really enjoying it.

Just tried downloading it for the second time, and installing it for the third, always comes up as being 'Unable To Locate Component'...

"This application has failed to start because d3dx9_42.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

dl'ing the .dll from the internet would work. or maybe installing DirectX manually.

AHA! This worked! Thanks.

ETA again:

Screen just looks like this once past the menus (which work fine), plays perfectly, I just can't see anything...

Your guess is as good as mine.

When I open it, the truck is there and everything is clear momentarily, then it goes like that.

Same thing happens on the Vista Laptop at home, truck fails to draw, just the lights, and the terrain is all glitchy.
Updated drives, installed DX9 (web installer) tried compatibility modes, but the problem persists.
And since it's a beta demo, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of a support forum on the oovee site.

Good stuff, I'll have to go back and see if I missed something.

Worth checking out the Facebook page, the chap who did the mods tutorials on Youtube has uploaded all his trucks, and there are a few new mod maps to try out.
