What y2blade said is correct if you set it nice and easy then there will be no tyre wear and fuel loads...
I set it to 2nd hardest difficulty when I started it so think it does have tyre wear. I'm going to lower the fuel amount for a race and see if I run out hehe
Or just use engine map 3 from the start...you'll soon find out biggrin

So you put it on the easiest mode? biggrin

I've managed to work out that for me using the same set up that worked for 2011 i'm 3 seconds a lap slower (1.07.5s around Sao Paulo on 2011/ 1.10.5s Sao Paulo 2012).

So that shows the handling changes that's been made for the new game and i do find it a bit on the understeer side of things and found i didn't have the grip through the corners that i had on 2011.

How do I change engine maps in a race by the way? Can't find how to do it.

I did finally get my 1st 2 poles and 1st race win last night in the Force India (not done the 2nd race yet, it was 9oclock and wheeler dealers was on hehe Think it might be time to up the difficult level to legend by the end of the season, just want to learn the tracks and how to drive the cars for now.

Just noticed its out, ive not played the ps3 in months. I only really go on it when I cant get out on the bike in the winter.

Is it worth the £40 for it over f1 2011?

As i said im not a big games fan so I would only be playing it a few times a month.

Use the d-pad buttons for the "on the fly" menu.

have a look in the key configuration menu if you get stuck.

I paid £30 in supermarket.
I never had F1 2011..but it is miles better than F1 2010.

on Xbox, I do have a PS3 but PSN is a nightmare so I only use it for games that aren't multi-platform like GT5 for example.

Finally remembered that there was a d-pad doing seemingly nothing in the game hehe

Well an update from me...

I have just about got to grips with the understeer, and all is now good. I can string some decent laps together now.

The AI on the other cars seems better too, a bit more challenging and you can get some nice close racing going on without the AI cars getting crashy!

Tyre wear and fuel use seem better too, as does clean/dirty/cold/hot tyres.

Use the arrow pad to change fuel, tyre choice at pitstop and brake balance.

So, thumbs up from me and my son.

I use the microsoft wireless force feedback wheel, with manual gears, and no TC and ABS. I like to try and keep it 'true to real life'.

Had a play with this on the PS3 last night. Very first impressions was "WHAT HAVE THEY DONE!?" it seemed twitchy when it shouldn't have been, too easy when normally it would have been twitchy. BUT when you got used to it you realise now it actually drives like a real car - although I can't help feeling it piles into corners with understeer like my VW Bora does - in fact, it actually feels like you're driving a front wheel drive car now. Is this how F1 cars feel to drive? That said it at least feels realistic, and get it right it's a better feeling - and easier to get right.

Other plus points:

- When you do an illegal overtake you get a chance to let them pass you again - that's a brilliant addition, very welcome.
- You actually feel KERS - or should I say you feel it when you don't have it, it's like hitting the brakes!
- DRS is now not silly light at the back end. Opening it on a corner used to throw you off the track, this is much more like what I see in real F1
- Tyre wear/dirt etc, much more progressive and realistic. Possibly too much as it can get annoying, it is a game after all.
- Fast lap overview at the start. This should have been in from day 1, perhaps could also do with some nice pace notes, guides from your engineer etc - get more involved as a driver and the track. Maybe for 2013 smile
- Rain. MUCH more difficult to see, and I imagine realistic
- Bits fly off your front wing if damaged slightly, very cool.
- Graphics are better
- Sound is much improved
- AI seems better, the cars seem to drive the lines and brake less

Negatives:

- Don't like the interface, it's too complicated and distracting.
- Don't like the new HUD, it's too bright and in your face and hides some of the track.
- Get on the kerbs or on dirt and your car instantly turns round the other way - it's nearly impossible to save. Stupid.

I think I like it enough to buy it and replace the 2011 game that is permanently in the Xbox.

I disagree about the kerbs/dirt spinning the car round in an uncontrollable manner.

Were you using a wheel?

No real Throttle control then frown I hate the triggers on the PS3 pad.

You will find it much better on the Xbox 360 pad (or even better still with the wheel)
I use pad and wheel depending if I can be arsed to get the wheel out.

I hate the PS3 pad too, it's made for 5 year olds. BUT I must say I find it the opposite, the throttle is at least analogue on the PS3, the XBox is probably 3 stages, but mostly feels on and off. Perhaps that was just the old game?

I've tried loads of wheels, never got on with any of them. Much better to learn to use a pad then you can go round to other people's houses and still able to play it properly smile

Got this last night. Have only gone as far as completing the new driver tests (got a gold and a bronze).

First impressions are that it is an improvement over the last few F1 games. The cars seem more planted to the ground, and it already looks like it'll be an easier game to plat on a pad.

Graphics and sound are better. Can't really say much more than that.

Oh yes, I did do one quick quali lap and the first four laps of Albert Park. Had the AI on the lowest setting. Qualified 18th and was up to fourth place before I exited the game. Did that just to get an idea of the difficulty level that I need. I'll be knocking it up a level before playing again.

Finally, anybody know of a good wheel for the XBox? I know MS stopped making their official one. Are there any newer ones out? What are the wireless speed wheels like?

Thanks.
