just had a go on the demo, and i quite enjoyed it, the handling felt good, im sure it would be better with a wheel, but i just dont have the space or the funds to justify a whee

As good as it is im not going to buy it when it first comes out, ive just bought the 2011 version to tide me over until the prices come down

It's funny because when I was a kid I was always so excited by the next f1 game. The first one on the playstation and f1 97 are still my favourite f1 games for sheer enjoyment but I always dreamed of photo realistic graphics and better sounds etc.. Now we have those, something seems to be missing. Maybe it's the novelty factor and Im so used to racing f1 cars around the same tracks, who knows. Anyway enough wistful wittering from me, I'm off to dust of the psone and put in some laps around Aida in my Simtek Ford!
Or perhaps like me there were things that Geoff Crammond had in his games 15 years ago which made the game so much more enjoyable like being able to replay from anothers cars view just as he flew into the barriers, or being able to see which cars had just retired.

I remember the very first Crammond F1 game on my Atari ST, couldn't stop playing it for years - Microprose Grand Prix

I remember my favorite track - Hockenheim and Berger in a Mclaren making a mistake right in front of me and punting off a Williams at the Ostkurve chicane and narrowly missing me. The AI in that game was almost real at times.

laugh I lost far too much of my youth to Gp2, amazing game!

Back to F1 2012 though and the demo seems alright and just like an update to last years game really. Glad to see the cars are a less twitchy with the DRS open, I had some pretty massive accidents on slight kinks or pulling out of the slip stream.

Nice glitch with the sound on the young driver test when you leave the pits. How do they miss things like this?!

My thoughts aswell. I think the two things that bug me at the moment is the size of the rear wing while looking back and that pit exit noise.

Mostly good update, maybe not a whole new game but I may rent it to get some achievements and a boost before I actually buy it.

Regarding the DRS crashes in 2011, that was quite fun with some corrections you could make and you feel like a king once you regain control in style. cool

hehe

It's absolutely terrible.

Good points:

Sounds good.

Looks good.

Bad points:

It's impossible to drive straight with a wheel, it's way too sensitive.

The FFB through the wheel doesn't exist, it's even worse than the previous two games.

Random under steer when trying to turn a corner.

Braking points which are way, way earlier than in real life (something which they'd pretty much fixed in 2011 over 2010 and have now messed up. Again).

The car is near impossible to spin when exiting a corner.

When you come off KERS it's like hitting treacle for a second.

You can hear the tyres hehe....(there's a 750BHP V8 sat half a metre behind me, I don't think I'd be able to hear the bloody tyres!).

The Young Driver's test seems pointless and a waste of time (from what you do in the demo, anyway).

No championship mode, only career mode (where you create your own driver and rank up).

It's much, much worse than F1 2011 and even F1 2010, in my opinion.

How they've managed to mess '12 up so much is beyond me. '11 was a half-decent base to build on.

Maybe it's better on a controller.

I'll stick to F1 2011, for all it's faults it's still a much better game to play.

Looking at the CM forums, it seems I'm not the only one.

Tried the PC demo. Utter st. I really hoped it was great, been looking for a new racing game to play.

I wasn't impressed at all with how it feels to drive. Finally something that is so bad it emulates the steering feel of an EP3 CTR perfectly... as in, could be better if you just hang on to a wet haddock instead of the wheel.

The UI is the worst I've ever seen in a game. I read it's been improved? What, the only way that's improved is if the old version gave you aids.

I played it, and felt the same. Sticking to rF2/iR!

Remember there is no fuel or tyre wear in the demo which can makes quite a big difference to the handling etc.

I've always really enjoyed these games, they are much less sophisticated than the PC sims obviously but there is a lot to like IMO.

This has been my biggest gripe with the Codemasters F1 games. With Crammond's games you really felt (and could witness from every angle and every car) that an actual race with 25 other cars was taking place. Makes you wonder what is so hard about recreating this, what with the vast improvement in technology since then.

Just haven't been able to get in to the new F1 games, and I was the World's biggest F1GP fan.

Didn't help that I can't actually look at the F1 2012 demo owing to the fact I don't have Xbox Gold... (wasted some time looking for it last night until the penny dropped)

Was it not the case that the AI cars were not actually "there" when you could not see them in your field of view, hence the game won't support a full replay mode.

Maybe. To me, not having proper replays is a big design flaw that you think they'd have put right by the time the 3rd iteration of the game was released. But maybe most people aren't bothered about being able to see what the other AI cars are doing during the race?

I've been pounding around trying to decide if it's worth it... Understeer! Although it does sound slightly better. It's just a demo,so i'll overlook the glitches and not to polished cars/camera angles. Probably going to wait for some decent reviews first.

Not sure i agree.
Oversteer at high speed, understeer at very low speed. Probably easy to trim the car up with a bit of setup.

I like it.

I played this out of interest, I usually only use iRacing and rFactor.

It was fun, and that's a good attribute for a game.

One thing I would point out though is that if you're playing on PC and the detail level is set too high, it makes the steering really slow. If the car doesn't feel like it's responding, try dropping the graphics settings and have another go.

Just finished installing and first impressions, nice fun game.

I don't think I'l ever have time for a complete season, but it handles itself well with the xbox game pad.

I missed buying F1 2011 so think I'm going to get this one. The reviews I've seen so far seem to be pretty good.
