I remember the very first Crammond F1 game on my Atari ST, couldn't stop playing it for years - Microprose Grand Prix
I remember my favorite track - Hockenheim and Berger in a Mclaren making a mistake right in front of me and punting off a Williams at the Ostkurve chicane and narrowly missing me. The AI in that game was almost real at times.

I worked in QA on GC's GP3 back in 2000 (we were both QA Tester's back in those days) with the now producer of 2012, he's a top bloke.
Possibly the best work environment I ever had, never felt like going to work, even when we were pulling 30 hours stints and bleeding eyes!
Thanks JayTee for the redirect.
Well after having the 2010 and 2011 versions i've just got this today. First impressions are that it's brilliant! the handling is a bit understeery compared to 2011 so i've been messing about with the set up some more but the engine notes and KERS are improved. Cars look great and there's more helmet choices which is also a bonus. I like the championship mode too but even on hard it's still a bit easy, would be nicer if the opposition had a more defensive attitude when you're coming at them.

Excuse my ignorance but why did GC never continue with his F1 games as he clearly was way ahead of the game. Was he paid out of the way for others?
I think microroprose got taken over/merged with infogrames then ea bought the f1 games rights to the exclusion of all others. Gp4 was released and the Xbox version was canned then not long after infogramed closed. My and the boy got this today.
It looks really good, and the general game dynamics are good, but the cars feel very understeery compared to 2011 which is making it a bit frustrating to start with. Also the grip reduction with dirty tires is much larger, which again takes some getting used to.
Will no doubt spend most of the weekend try to beat the boy (not like that) so will report back.

I've not Played driving sims for ages. This is really tempting me. Can you guys help me choose a wheel and pedal combo that works well with this without breaking the bank?
Thanks
Are you looking for a proper "Racing simulator" or just a good driving game? Thanks
If a proper simulator, there isn't much to offer on Xbox, game or wheel setup wise. I can't think of any games worthy of "simulator" status apart from race pro, which was awful anyway, and pedal wise, you're pretty much looking at the official Xbox set up. The older Xbox wheel was ok, nothing brilliant. Don't even consider the new one. At all. Otherwise it's a Fanatec set up, which will be brilliant, but will cost just under eleventy billion pounds. It would be much easier if your computer is up to running it to stick to PC games. More wheel options - Logitech G25/7, loads of stuff on eBay. Games are much better - RFactor, GTR2 and iRacing to name a few.
If you're just after a good racing game, I would steer clear of this too. Forza is pretty untouchable as long as you have Xbox Live.
I don't rate this game much, no better than the previous offerings, which weren't that brilliant anyway. Bit of a Lisa Kudrow.

Anyone else struggling with the handling? I kept failing my tests because of it, I guess it's just weird because I normally place Forza 4
It is either really twitchy or barely responds at all. Some corners you turn in and it wont give you enough steering input, even though you are giving it loads on the controller. Very odd!For a modern track the new USA circuit is fantastic, really looking forward to the real race now!

I did find the handling quite strange or rather harder to drive smooth on demo - have they fixed the pit lane exit sound in the retail version? I may get it tomorrow - just from Blockbuster as the reviews seem luke-warm.
I got it today.
Handling is giving more feedback (you can control overseer much more)
It used to snap on you in '10 and was not quite there in '11..
Finally you can get up to some Kobayashi style shenanigans!
largest change from last years game is the understeer... takes 30 mins or so to find the groove again.
Hugely rewarding though when you bang out a great lap.
The career mode slog is still there.
But they have a lovely new season challenge mode.. it's great.
You can just dive in and out for 30 mins at a time.
And finally you can swap teams during the season!
details are improved in the cockpit:
(I found in '11 the red bull was great.the rest not so much!
This year most the cars have the same quality cockpit steering wheels,
Is it worth £39.99 ? - probably not,but i caved in.
Just my take after a few hours anyway!
Oh and it sounds better!

I've been playing it for about 9 hours straight now. Sad, I know.
When I first started playing, I kept failing the tests because the steering is so sensitive compared to Forza 4, it takes a while to get used to.
When I finally got the hang of the steering, I loved it. I put it on proffesional mode and I struggle to get better than 15th place most of the time. In a way, that's a good thing because Forza I could never get the AI to challenge me. What really annoys me is that my car on the straights is so slow compared with the rest. I guess it's just because I've just started in one of the back cars (HRT).
I managed to finish 6th in the last race and bagged a lot of points for it. I'm yet to venture out of career mode, so I can't comment on the rest of the game. But, I am having fun.
As someone else said, worth £35? Well, I think so.
ETA: What a piece of st. It won't let me change to wets and I can't drive in slicks without it sliding everywhere. Done Catalunya three times now. You would think they'd put in an option to let you notify your pit crew you want wets. They're obviously completely oblivious to every other car on wets and it's fking pissing down.
