On the final mission, stuck. There is a room with a door that I can't get into. Anyone had this? Some discussion online with this on PC, but I'm playing on Xbox...
Basically you missed an alien somewhere so go back the way you came in and find it. For me it was a mutton hiding in a corner (a bit annoying!!)

In my case, after sweeping the entire area 3 times; decided it was a bug and restarted.

Additional. It may be my game of the year (but I adored laser squad and enemy unknown); but I still haven't managed to beat it on classic....
If you played the original, you'd know three times wasn't enough. Up to turn 300 or so, shooting out every wall of every building to try and find that bd sectoid that was stood behind a bin. biggrin

In the original, I carried vast supplies of grenades, rockets or blaster bombs to ensure this was not an issue.

Can't do that in the new one.

You were right, thanks.

However, I got to the final room and got spanked by three Ethereals! Time to research those psi-helmet thingys...

Ideally you need to drop them on the turn that you see them. A strategicly placed sniper will do wonders for that.

Or robotic gun platforms. Expendable robotic gun platforms.

Wasn't there a big sword type thingy? That was good for destroying everything. As was hacking the game to get 255 rounds for each magazine. wink

It was. Loads of the missions were two, or even three stage, and they went on for ages.

Common bug on the PC at least; it happened to me and there were no aliens visible anywhere. I concluded that one of the Floaters that 'disappeared' had fallen through the scenery and was existing somewhere below the map unable to be seen or get out. I had seen one fly up into the air between two gangways, never to be seen again.

Gave up after that, but then I was a bit disappointed overall anyway being a fanboy of the original.

Been playing the Xenonauts demo lately, that's what X-COM should be like!

Had another go last night having tooled up my team - in the end went two snipers, two heavies, one support and one assault. Went well, managed to kill the two sectopods easily enough, got to the final room killed one Ethereal and that was it, completed! Excellent game, loved it.

Restarted on ironman impossible mode and it was bloody impossible!

The first time I played it I started on Classic/Ironman mode, and all went fairly well until the first Terror Mission.

My four man team quickly faced up to at least four Chryssalids, four Floaters and several Zombies. Three men killed in one turn. Last man panicked and killed on the next turn.

There's a challenge, and there's bloody impossible like what I faced there!

Did you quit, or have you managed to beat the game on that setting?

Does anybody know how long you can keep an alien alive in the containment unit before interrogating it?

The prof says it will contain them for a short time, but there is no mention of how long that is.

I want to finish researching something before I interrogate, but I don't want my specimen to die.

I also find it funny that the team back at base find it horrific when you discover that the aliens are experimenting on humans, when they are doing the exact same thing!

"Second Wave" DLC is releaed today - and it's free!

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/08/xcoms-second-wav...

It adds additional game modes to make the campaign even more challenging. Some will apparently only unlock after you have beaten it on certain difficulty levels.

Good to see that Firaxis are going to keep supporting the game...
