I'm about to restart for the 3rd time, most of my squad wiped out in one mission. 3 countries lost from the council and the rest very close to max panic.

I'm playing on the default non ironman and doing OK so far.

Bought a squad size of 6 replaced a couple of missions early on before I got the hang of it. Short of money , short of satellites etc.

The old gameplay is still there though, where a mission starts off really well, then unravels disastrously on one turn.

The first mission where Mutons arrive (they fly now??) I had pretty much wiped the map clean with no casualties, until one turn where I moved to people into cover, except there was a flying Muton which somehow nobody could see that had full view of my two troopers. They quickly died, followed by my remaining two that somehow decided to repeatedly miss shots that had a +70% hit chance.

Mission failed, world panic, finger hovering over reset button. Gotta live with the consequences though!

In case anyone doesn't know, it seems you can build multiple satellites at the same time!

This means you can launch multiple satellites in a month, hold off till near the end of the month. I'm not sure when panic reduction kicks in, when you select the country or when the satellite actually launches (after 3 days).

If it's instant hold off till right at the end just before the council report comes in.

So building satellites and interceptors seems to be working. I'm 2 months in and I haven't lost a country yet and none of them are above 3 squares of panic. I have 6 satellites in orbit with space for 2 more (3 being built). I launch them near the end of the month when the panic bar is at it's maximum to bring the panic'iest nations down.

It's good for income as well.

Just finished my first play through, Classic difficulty.

Overall it was fun (nice tense and challenging final mission) but am a bit disappointed, dont really see much replay value due to the linear nature and limited customisation options.

Still, have the originals to go back too smile

Still loving this game, I haven't progressed past the first part story wise but the enemies are getting bigger and tougher so still not a cake walk just wish I had more money and weapons! Great idea you have to capture aliens to take the weaponry.

Panic reduction is instant.

Quite annoying that the aliens get a free move when you first spot them, Chysallids just come charging at me and then even more on their turn before destroying my whole team within a turn :-/

Grr bloody Amazon still hasn't delivered my pre-order. That's them off my pre-order list of companies to use. I only ordered via them as the Shopto site was down as well.

Over watch should sort that problem out.

Also move your front troops first, and only a half-move. Then if you rumble some aliens you have the other half-move (and the rest of your guys) to deal with it. Makes things a lot easier - I learned this the hard way after moving forward right at turn and losing one of my better heavies. frown

Incidentally, double tap snipers are insane. biggrin

Yep dont move + overwatch.

move, move , move etc then do overwatch if you dont pull anything.

Interesting blog on playing impossible ironman, totally different tactics and you ditch the snipers!

Think I'm on the slippery slope to losing here. My ground tactics have been spot on as I've hardly lost anyone, but my focus has been on research and equipping my teams. Now have no cash, am losing countries, and have rising panic. Bugger.

Same boat as me.

Nails ground troops with more survivability that Jesus but the bureaucrats have screwed me again.

Planning on restarting tonight. No biggie as I'm really enjoying the game anyway.

I'm concerned I'm doing something similar.

Building power to build sat uplinks to build sats to gain coverage now. Not sure I'm going to make it.

I'm doing better on Classic Iron Man than on normal/normal(?) I guess you take more care on Iron Man.

Similar issues with panic vs equipmant, panic just seems to get out of hand and can't control it.

Since I made some silly misstakes when first playing the game and getting used to it, I started over yesterday on normal mode without the tutorial...

First mission, all soldiers KIA. Second mission, all soldiers KIA. WTF? Another restart and now all is good. I was rushing in to much and not keeping enough men on overwatch.

What I do find annoying though is that you can't choose wich role a soldier will get. The first promotion decides this for you. Now I'm stuck with a lot of heavies and snipers and only 1 support irked
