I'm about level 15 or so and currently switch between the MP7 and the SWAT, the latter is really good imo, 3 round burst is more than enough in hardcore, it's pretty much an M16 from MW.

I know but every fker camps on hardcore, the games are dull as dishwater,my kill ratio is much better on hardcore but it is quite tedious in a public game.

I really wanted to like this game but im struggling at the moment. It just docent feel polished to me! Huge lag issues where as others have said you are spraying whole clips in people and nothing then they let off 1 bullet and your dead. Also the sound in the game is st! In other COD titles you could clearly tell the diff between each type of gun (assault rifle, smg, lmg) but here you can't! All the explosion also sound alike. At least in MW3 each gun had it's owne characteristics. Here they are all the same.

I know mw3 was bad out the box but this feels worse at the moment . Plus at least you could play mw3 I can't even get on to multiplayer at the moment! And the whole interface is nowhere near as clean as the mw series!

Sorry rant over!
That doesn't sound good mate. I suspect the PS3 is doing it's usual settling in period where every seems utter sh!te for a few weeks/months. There is lag on the Xbox like when you get shot at you get cover & move behind the wall then die a split second later fsr. I'm also noticing it's taking a few more bullets to kill when there is Americans in the lobby but as you say that is normal lag issues.

The gun audio I think sound brilliant. However, you are also right because there doesn't seem to be much variation in sounds they've used. Could be worse mate, they could use the audio from Black Ops 1. My issue with the audio is general footsteps, sometimes I can hear them half way across the map & sometimes I get stabbed in the back without hearing a single thing of which I'll watch the replay expecting them to have Ninja on but they don't. I have a good sound setup so it's confusing why it does that.

The interface is pretty bad, possibly the worse part of the game really. You also don't get much opportunity to change a class while in the lobby.

Also, the laser attachment (steady aim) is way too overpowered. I suspect this will get overused in time.

The Type 95 seems to be my current best weapon but I am looking forward to that one that's similar to the M4 Carbine.

Tip, set your preferences to search for the "Best" connection. Standard it's set for normal. You can also choose "Fast" which just gets you into a game as fast as possible.

Takes a few seconds longer for the best connection, but it's worth it.

Well it seems to have gone a bit quiet on this thread, quite surprising for such a huge game release. Anyway as readers of this thread will know, I had my doubts about this latest iteration and indeed the direction in which the CoD games where heading in general so rather than buy the game I'v decided to rent it for a week first to see if I got on with it before purchasing it so I got it on Saturday and have had several very long sessions to the point where I am up to about level 21 so I'll sum up my thoughts.

So some people have complained that the graphics are too cartoony and yes that definitely is the case so if you are expecting realistic graphics you WILL be disappointed, the whole game has a plasticky\cartoonish sheen to it. It's not markedly better than previous iterations and some would even say it's a step back but it works for me as it makes it easier to see what you are shooting at which IMO in a game is more important than gritty realism. Besides there won't be any more massive leaps forward in graphical capabilities in this generation of consoles as they've pretty much reached the limit, for something noticeably better you'll need to wait for the PS4\Next Xbox.

The sound is exceptional, the weapons sound different and you clearly hear what is going in the battlefield with excellent depth of sound effects which telly you how close far away people\gunshots\grenades etc are.

The new perk system is very good and the 10 point system gives you a huge amount of flexibility in exactly how you kit out your soldier with guns, attachments, perks and score streaks and is a natural step forward over what has gone before. The games also has that "newness quotient" which means it's fun at the moment to learn all the new maps, guns, perks etc.

Having said all that, I'll now come onto the bad news which is that the gameplay style hasn't moved on and is the same as previous iterations, so if you enjoy the twitch gameplay style of CoD then you'll love it, however if you prefer the more tactical gameplay of games like BF3 then this isn't the game for you and it still isn't a patch on the series highlight for me which was CoD4. Again the focus is very much on small enclosed maps with people sprinting around furiously or camping in small dark corners and this realistically is the only way to successfully play this game, half the weapons might as well not be in this for all the use they will be too you which for me is a big disappointment so while am certainly getting enjoyment out of it for now, I suspect much like it's predecessor I will get bored very quickly once the novelty wears off, I certainly don't see it having the longevity o CoD4 which I played for nearly 2 years.

I wish they'd pinch the suppression mechanic from battlefield, so you could actually pin people down as your friends flanked in for the kill. Also I know its hardcore, but a single round to the foot from a pistol should be instakill :/

I also HATE the fact it isn't hosted by a server, but by players. Means there's always lag, and usually one side has a much better ping than the other frown

Strangely enough my main grip with the game is the lack of options in hardcore frown

Is there still much of an online community for COD4? Tempted to download it on Steam for £20

Yep, still quite a strong community. Many playing ProMod as well if that takes your fancy.

It's a mod for COD4, was first created for competitive play but lots of people play it now.

There's not any huge differences, but the ones I can remember are:

No perk 3
Perk 1 always bandolier
Perk 2 alway stopping power
Only one sniper allowed on a team
Sniper zooms in faster and has no sway
No RDS on guns

Generally a higher level of opponent as well. It's much harder to be that stand out player.

Will have to look into that. Been meaning to get back in to CoD4 (from the reviews I don't think BO2 has enough to draw me to it). Is it Xbox or PS3?

Personally, I think it is a great game.

Feels a lot more refined than previous CoDs like they actually made an effort with it.

Zombies is great fun too.
Only played the campaign for one mission, but that is confusing as fook.

Well I finally caved in after a week and bought it. I know some people instantly go online, but I like to do the campaign before I do anything else.

When I got onto the first mission, there was a lot of prologue and I just wanted to get in there and shoot some people. I stuck through it and started to get into the swing of CoD after playing Battlefield 3 recently. After three hours of play, I've got about 4 missions left and I'm still enjoying it. The story has got more twists and turns than a twisty turny thing.

So far, my only problems are that is has gone a bit too sci-fi for me, think Halo meets Call of Duty.

I went online briefly to see if anything has changed and I've noticed that there's only a couple of hardcore game modes, but loads of core game modes, what's the deal with that? It's annoyed me a little.

It's worth a buy just for the campaign alone.

Quite different from MW3, and it seems to split opinions. I really like it, and would definitely recommend giving it a shot.

The multiplayer gets a lot of flack for the lag, and my first game playing I had a lot of it. I went something like 12-19, which is quite horrible for me. Saw a video that says to change your search preferences so it searches for the best connection (takes a little bit longer), and the very next game I went 51-12 on a map I'd never played, which is much more like it. No lag at all.

People say it looks cartoony and stuff, don't really see it myself. Spawns can be a little iffy at times though...
