Took the plunge this weekend as I gave my copy of MW3 away in may to a buddy, and I got bitten by the cod bug again.

Personally I think its one of the best cod's yet, lets face it they're all the same thing with the story being a slightly different flavour but ultimately the same thing. Zombies i've yet to play but have heard great things.

As to online I think the maps are all well thought out so you can't really camp, at least not without some gadgets/capable team mates but so you cant get constantly spawn killed or pinned down by a sniper. Everything feels very well finished and i think its brilliant online, menu's could do with some work as they seem a bit confusing.

I like it, but it was never going to be anything other than the CoD:4 platform with some new shiny bits.

A BIT????? I was killed twice by the same bomb run on Carrier! Dodgy spawns aside though, I am quite enjoying it. The campaign is nice and varied and the pick 10 system is good. Putting a shock charge and bouncing betty together is quite effective. Maps are very close quarters with not much scope for snipers (see what I did there?) Just about getting to grips with KB/M rather than Dualshock as I got this on PC but improving.

Spawns are the biggest issue in the game, a number of times I've respawned on a enemy bouncing betty, KABOOOM FFS. Hopefully this will get patched fairly quickly with an update (they are normally very good when an issue is identified).

Enjoying this lots still, some great maps (some not so), captured the flag is very tactical, and you can get far better results working as a team of 3 or 4 + (one as a runner, two assault flankers and a cover man with a decent single shot).

Loving some of the new attachments, particularly 'switchable fire', a great real life addition, increase your accuracy by going semi auto, or spray with full auto. Never really been into sniper rifles, always prefering the single shot / burst fire assault rifles with an ACOG, now you can switch them to full auto to makes them awesome.

It was the bullst spawn point killing that put a stop to me playing BF3 frown

In it's defence it was in capture the flag, so if the opposition are on your flag point and theirs it will spawn you mid map where everyone tends to leave them. I do think it will get patched so I wouldn't let it be the deciding factor.

Lots of the PH Xbox old skool COD boys have come back online with this, so lots of great clan / teamwork going on.

Cheers for the feedback Carl.
I think I'll sit on my pocketbook for the minute as my friend list are already starting to come back to MW3 already.

So played this a bit more and yes spawns are broken, getting killed 3 times in a row when it spawns you 3 metres in front of an enemy is quite frankly sh*te but this has always been a problem in CoD, you'd think they'd have learnt this by now as it's on it's zillionth iteration rolleyes

Apart from that's it's ok. Fun but I can see the normal multiplayer won't keep me hooked for long as it's very biased\unbalanced towards certain guns\perk setups. As an example take an SMG or shotgun, equip all attachments\perks which speed you up, ie quick hands, extreme conditioning, quick draw grip, dextrity and fast mags then absolutely own everybody else as you run around at 100mph shooting people point blank in the face before they've even managed to get a bead on you. Seriously I went 25\30 - 3\4 on many games using this setup. Sure it's fun for a while but I just find it frustrating that the game seems intent on encouraging\forcing you to play in this way to do well, the range at which 80% of encounters occur is very short and mostly involves running around a corner and seeing who get's the drop first.

However I also had a go at Zombies last night both local splitscreen and online and it is absolutely superb. Hilarious, fun and scarey in equal measure. Managed to get to level 10 on the farmhouse level with 3 other randoms, all covering each other, reviving etc. This mode is far better and more fun than the normal multiplayer IMO and could be the thing that saves this game for me.

No worries, I am trying to give a balanced opinion as I loved the CoD series and Cod4 is probably one of my all time favourite games but just feel the series has lost it's way a bit since then and been surpassed by some other FPS games Still if you liked MW3 or BLOPS than you'll love this as it's more of the same.

Me I've been playing FPS's for a long time and just feel the last 2-3 CoDs aren't bringing anything new to the party except for Zombies of course, which was very good in the previous Treyarch CoD's and I think it's the best bit about this latest iteration too. Messing around with the settings last night and I discovered it has a 3D mode too which uses the old fashioned reb\blue glasses which I just HAVE to try. Zombie mode in 3D will be insane! Just need to work out where I can get some of those old 3D glasses now.

Wow, sounds like you've got a good'un, my missus actually plays split screen Zombies with me and she isn't half bad either although she does still sometimes get lost (bless)

Yep she's a keeper wink

What's up with the spawn points online? I finished on 1 kill, 13 deaths because I just couldn't move without dying.

I'm really enjoying this.

I just won my first game online, I got a little more excited than I should have done - especially at 29 years old.

The last time I played a COD online was MW2. I even had a 42 game win streak! So got quite good! Getting back into it has been very frustrating, knowing I should be doing better but it's starting to come back.

Along with my virginity, obviously.

He he, damn right...I came out for lunch today (West coast USA) and once I could turn the phone on there was an email waiting on me "27 kills, woohoo", sounds like she's getting the hang of it now too... biggrin

LOL, is this a good time to admit that my missus can quite often hold her own against me in most 2 player fighting games and she positively kicks my a*se on Soul Calibur 5! The other day when we were playing CoD Zombies, I was having a particularly bad game and she kept having to revive me. Her "Come on, I can't keep carrying you all game" comment had me in stitches. Is it time for me to hand in my man card? biggrin

Loving the Game but the usual Lag and Spawn issues still prevail, if you have a "soft " connection with the extreme nature of the superfast perks <as discussed in another post above> you get destroyed. Fortunately in things like domination I gather it wont impact your KD ratio <for those who care about such things>.

Most mannic thing I have played for a long time, is Hardpoint on Hijack, totally insane and loads of fun <expect to die stloads> smile

I have had games where I have been utterly raped due to poor spawning and lag but its still a great grame imho and worth the spend.
Knowing the spawn points for the hardpoint on that make it a lot easier. Flak Jacket and tactical mask are a must as well. It goes, Middle (on top), back end building (where the boats are), Underneath (Engine room) and then Front end building (Where the helipads are)

I have read through forums for a while, and each time a new COD comes out I see a pattern emerging. I know some will disagree but everyone is different and have their own opinion but, it seems that the overall majority of people still rate Call of Duty 4 as the benchmark and still the best edition of the series so far.

I'm not sure what others think but I feel that it was the simplicity of the game that was its charm. It was of course a huge leap from Call of Duty 3 in terms of graphics and playability but it had an overall polished feel that gave you a real enjoyable gaming experience. I wonder whether it was this new territory that was entered that made it so special or was it something else?

Personally I think if they patched it up, aded a couple of new maps and re-released it they would sell them by the bundle. It will never happen but it's nice to dream. I know things change and games develop but sometimes it can be a case of if it aint broke don't fix it.

I will persevere with Black Ops 2 and hopefully the bugs will cleaned up and I'll stay with it. Until then I will occasionally drop COD4 in for a nostalgic TDM.
