I installed Quake Arena III last night, to see if my complaint was valid... I turned up the bots and yes, it was exactly the same as CoD multiplayer.

The difference between CoD4 MW and CoD9 BO2 is marked too, as they seem to have spent a lot of time making maps which emulate QA/UT gameplay. For me, one of MWs strengths which makes it attractive to play still, is that every location hasnt been carefully designed with two ways for someone to run up behind you unseen.

In this respect CoD4 is FAR more realistic and far more enjoyable to play as a result. This release should have been called Call of Duty Arena (for 13yr old boys).

Going to say this again the spawning is a complete and utter joke, they literally spawn behind you. Far far worse than other cods seriously need to sort this out quick.

You spawn at one end of the map or another, it's as simple as that, if you happen to be fairly close to one end of the map then there's a good chance they'll spawn near you.

.
YES!!! Poor map design which means 80% of the time you don't even see your opponent as they run up behind you and shoot you in the back. This along with the broken spawning removes most of the skill out of the game and just leaves you at the mercy of luck, what's fun about that?

As an example I played two rounds last night back to back on the same map with the same people (sometimes the rounds repeat) The first game I won by a country mile but in the second game I was second from last, all purely down to the fact that I had the "luck of the draw in the first game.

I ended up turning it off after an hour as I could feel myself getting angry with it. I just can't understand why this series is so popular now, is this what people really want from an FPS game? Perhaps I have just been spoilt by playing some proper FPS games for so long.

Yep have to agree, gave it one last go last night and....it's still very poor. I really don't understand why it's been getting such good reviews, it's almost as if the reviewers are afraid to pan one of the largest game franchises in history due to the backlash they will receive.

Anyway, poorly laid out maps, overpowered speed perks, broken spawn logic, quick scoping idiots (yes they are very much still there), corner camping kn*bs all amounts to a VERY frustrating experience.

A typical game goes like this.

Spawn, find someone directly in front of your gun sights, shoot them, yay get happy, start sprinting, 3 seconds later someone runs up behind you and shoots you, die, respawn, get shot, die, respawn, get shot, die respawn, get shot, eventually you spawn somewhere which isn't smack dab in the middle of a firefight\someone elses sights, run around for 5 seconds at full tilt, run round a corner to come face to face with someone, both frantically spay and pray, lag\luck determines the outcome, run around at full tilt, come face to face with a quick scope knob who gets a sniper shot off at point blank range in 1\2 a second by cheating and kills you. Spawn run round a corner and step on a bouncing betty. Spawn, run into a dark room and get shot by the git lying down in the dark corner. Repeat this about a 100 times and that's Blops 2.

I'm not on a downer because I'm not good at it as I almost always get into the top 3 spots on the leaderboard it's just a very frustrating gaming experience. I'm glad I rented it rather than bought it as I've saved myself £35 and it's going back tomorrow.

Not had the spawning problems on multiplayer, but not played that much of it yet.

Really enjoying the Campaign at the moment although it does get a bit Team America in places - everytime someone mentions "The Terrorists" I look for the prompt to do the super secret signal hehe

run around for 5 seconds at full tilt,
Think it pretty much sums up why you aren't enjoying it. I have a mate who plays in that style, and hated the game, I showed him how I was playing the game, and he then followed my tips and started too enjoy it more and more. Avoid the middle of all the maps, dominate a side section, use bettys and shock charges to watch your back. For example on a map like Raid, I've laid out how I'd play the game, generally this is on games without objectives, TDM or Kill confirmed.
Key:
Green is for my team, and where they would be spawning.
Yellow is too represent 1 betty and 2 shock charges placements.
Red is the movements I'd do, so would never venture into the middle of the map.
Pink is where I can pick off opposing players, and the routes they'd run.

I hope this helps a slight bit for anyone struggling to get to grips with BO2 and I don't mind doing a similar sort of thing for others maps if anyone would like.

EDIT: Sorry about the size of the colours.

Oh I've tried playing it like that too and it works very well on SOME maps but then you get abuse for being a camper from all and sundry and become a target. Again it's fun trying to defend your position frantically for a while but that gets old quite quickly too.

Like I said I'm not complaining coz I'm crap at it, on the contrary I do quite well, I'm complaining because it's just not a very satisfying game to play. Even in a good round where you win, you suffer far to many deaths, not because you aren't good enough or you got outplayed which would be fair enough but just out of shear random luck or poor game design. It doesn't reward skillful play enough and it's very difficult to get any sense of momentum or progression going when you are getting randomly killed every 10 seconds.

The level design and map size is the biggest problem, you can literally run around most of the maps in about 20 seconds which means it funnels all the players into the same small hotspots, the amount of times I've been shot in the back half a second after I've shot someone else because I didn't see them come in is just silly. There is nothing you as a player can do to effect\change that no matter how skillful you are and I just don't find a game which relies on such random factors to be enjoyable.

I do agree with you in some cases, the fact you can shoot someone, and then be killed by someone spawning behind you is really frustrating, but COD4 had that, mw2 had that, even BO had that as well. I actually get a lot of satisfaction out of the game personally.

Technically it is camping, but you aren't just watching one spot, I like to think of it as technical camping biggrin it takes skill to be able to hold a position with multiple routes, rather than sit in a window watching one spot. I also found I got easily bored when using low scorestreaks, but having put them up higher, (Stealth chopper, VSAT and K9s) I have more entertainment trying to hit the elusive K9s.

Technical camping, I like it ;-). Still doesn't make you very popular though, the amount of abusive messages I got last night for "defending an area\technical camping" was unreal. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

We all camp to a degree, esp if playing a capture type game. THe problem is when you have someone watching an enterence / exit that is not near the objective that annoys me. sitting watching that exit point just cbecause you know there will be traffic through it is stupid and you should be playing TDM! If its near the defending / attacking objective then that makes some sense, but you will still get abuse form me, but then everyone dose!smile

Oh believe me, I get a lot of abuse from kids who think they are amazing at the game, more often than not they tend to then challenge me to a 1v1. I almost feel disappointed if I don't get a message a day, it makes me feel popular.

Spawns in Demolition seem fine. I usually play Domination but won't in this one with the spawns. Having some pretty high scoring games and enjoying demolition. Much more people seem to play the objective in it.

Right, I've been playing Black Ops 2 for two weeks now and I still can't get on with it.

Bad points:

Hardcore game modes? - Why are there only four hardcore game modes? Two of them you have to wait to re-spawn (pointless and I hate the idea of waiting to re-spawn), one of them you're on your own and the last you only have one life. People that enjoy hardcore can no longer play this game.

Core game modes - To kill somebody you have to put a whole round of ammunition into the enemy. Therefore, after killing about 5 people, you're out of ammo. I went back onto MW2 last night and you can actually kill people on core without having to put half your ammo into them. It's a shame during the day there is hardly anyone on MW2.

Kniving people - It seems that they've made it impossible to knife people. When playing one in the chamber, it normally takes a few minutes of constant attempts to knife the other playing to kill them. What's all that about?

Spawn points - I'm sick of spawning and being killed instantly, then watching myself spawn on the killcam, right in front of the enemy.

Lag - Terrible.

Camping/noob tubing - It gets worse with every CoD game that comes out. It's no longer fun.

UAV - It takes too long to scan again, deeming it useless.

Good points:

Campaign - I always enjoy CoD campaign and this one was no different.

I can't actually think of any other good points.

For some reason, I still play this game, even though it annoys the fk out of me and it's clearly downgraded from the last CoD.

Are you sure your connection is decent? Your complaints are consistent with having a bad ping.

Really? Noobtubing is practically non existent in this game compared to other cods, and the fact that ghost only works if you are moving around means camping is being distinguished. This game is still relatively new, and people are still finding their way around the maps so of course there will be some elements of camping, but again it's the same as every cod within the first few months.

Ive never understood others issue with 'camping'. Surely its part of the game? If not, then why are snipers rifles and ghillie suits options to select? Id sooner be shot by a sniper whos holed up somewhere, than a wally running around with a sighted rifle quick scoping me!

How about someone hiding in a corner with a shotgun who waits until someone runs past and doesn't even have to aim, they just jab wildly at the trigger. Once killed they then go to another corner and repeat. It's as cheap and frustrating as it gets.
