Think I got about 6.5k elixir, didn't take note this morning of the gold.

elixir goes down when you use it. Gold just keeps mounting up.

No, castle upgrades don't take away your gold, it's just the character upgrades that use up elixir.

The Elixir/gold payout is pretty much fixed at that ratio.
You're not sending enough Nerds out.

Collect all nerds - store don't use them. Come back in 2 hours.
Use all stored nerds on <12 hour battles at randoms only, go to your SF and collect the new batch of Nerds, send them out too on <12 hour battles. Close game, come back in >12 hours.

At this stage that should give you at least 130 nerds (I'm sending out over 150-225 a time now) and at least triple what you're getting now.

I sent about 100 out last night got 6k elixir and 2.9k gold doing what Mouse said above.

Bit or an update just came through, new message about sending max nerds out? Possibly they have fixed the glitch? I've just sent 150 out to see how it goes.

New decorations too, shame they ask so many donuts for things like a Twonicorn though...

Also they have increased the size of Madame Chao's which is a complete bugger if you've built it in a terrace of shops etc.
