Just started playing this at eh weekend.

On level 9 with 10k worth of cash but with only 25 donuts. It appears that to advance I need more donuts but don't really want to shell out real cash to get them.

Is there a way to earn more?

You can earn donuts via "find Maggie" and daily tasks plus recycling tasks. I don't know if these are available to you?
You also need a lot more cash. Build lots of blue houses and collect rent. You probably need to have around 100.
It's fairly easy to progress without spending money but it takes time.
If you want free donuts or cash I'm sure someone will advise how to do it by using Reddit (?)

In the Insanity cauldron game you can tap each turtle up to 4 times each gaining over 110-120 per game instead of 60 whatever you normally get (which only makes a difference to the $ you get not the pills)

Also has anyone tried KEM farming? I tried it one day with the multiplier on, gets you levelled up quickly, and donuts too.

Insanity cauldron gets you pills for Springfield heights or around $1200 a day cash, and it's a bit of fun.

KEM: kwikEmart farming gets you huge XP to level up and get free donuts

Start early in the morning
Buy a day pass at the XP collider (cost 5 donuts)
You sell all your KEM apart from one (sell not store)
Then you buy 25 and place them all.
Wait 4 hours till they are all built, when they finish building that should give you enough XP to level up a few times and get a few donuts
Sell those 25
Buy another 25

Repeat. You should be up donuts by the end of the day and up a good few levels, though it might cost you a few hundred k$ I'll check it out when I do it again.

Some guy worked out that this is much cheaper way of getting XP than Tiki-bars or blood mobiles etc
