I've been killing Anacondas in my Viper, and last night I got interdicted by an NPC Python whilst in my Viper, and I toasted him too (and that's with one of my beam lasers turned off due to the power changes to Shield Banks).

Providing you have a well equipped ship, you should be alright. A fully spec'd Viper should run about 2.5 million credits. A Cobra would be around 7.5 million.
What's the best strategy for amassing this wealth? Trading rates? Standard trading and grinding? Bounty hunting? Pirating?

Did some bounty hunting, all good, time to cash in my chips... hang on, 500K bounties assigned to a faction which has 0% influence and no stations; how do I collect?
The bounty assignation does seem to be a bit broken. Hard to see how FD could get that so wrong. It will also be a bit boring to go tramping around stations to collect bounties if that is their intent. It was better when the major faction paid the bounty.

Also feels like it's been balanced way too much in favour of PvPers, now that everything overheats. I have 2 Class 2 fixed rail guns in my Python, firing both = overheat. That on a ship with A-rated everything. Beam lasers now drain charge faster and overheat.

Plus of course the Python nerf which does feel more significant in play than FD indicated it would: very low top speed, much less manoeuvrable, less shields. And now as a weapons platform it overheats. I took 35% hull damage cost me 650,000 credits to repair. There's something wrong if a couple of players in disposable Vipers can cause that much financial pain. My ship probably costs 200 or 300 TIMES the cost of a Viper, it shouldn't be a fair fight 1 on 1!

Python still a decent enough ship for solo play, but PvP feels like it's down to the lowest common denominator now, and FD are listening too much to that crowd. The more expensive ships should be aspirational and something worth working for, feels like everyone is just parking them now.

Congrats Ash.

Mojito, if you're just starting the game the general progression for getting to a point where you are free to do whatever you want goes like this: missions in/around your starting system, save up to buy a hauler with a decent jump distance, rare trade until you have a enough to buy a T6 or similar, trade normal goods until you are comfortable. You don't have to do that ofc, you can grind missions or mining or bounty hunting or anything else you like. Once you have some cash though you can do pretty much what you want when you want; if you choose the right ship it's just a case of removing cargo bays and equipping guns to go from trader to pirate, for example.

Works ok here. Sound is quieter, but quality is ok. Can't see much difference other than that. Viper is ok with beams and shield cells, power is more marginal, less chaff ammo, costs twice as much to re-arm but still peanuts.

I asked the same question further up - it looks like you don't, for now at least.

I don't know if anything has changed since the patch, but I had my first real Bounty Haul last night. Sitting out at one of the RES in Leesti, I had a constant stream of wanted Cobras come in. I'd racked up cr10K in less than ten minutes.

Nope, that's pretty much standard RES behaviour. In fact in 1.1 I think they've changed it a bit so you don't get a constant stream of the same type of craft.

However I think the reputation thing is a bit more broken now in 1.1, I did some RES camping last night and only killed Wanted players. My rep has gone DOWN with every single faction in the system. You'd think that while I was doing "good" on their behalf that at least some of it would be positive. I get that if you kill ships from a particular faction they might think less of you, but major faction paying the bounty should increase rep and the NET overall effect of rep should be positive.

I had the same thing in another system. Took one of those missions where you have to destroy x number of a given type of ship, got 6 pirates in the system I was already in. I headed for a RES, stopping at a USS along the way (bagged pirate sidewinder there) and ended up with a procession of Cobras for the taking. Easy enough kills, almost 60k in bounties and another 16k mission reward.

Well FD's stance is that it is easier to lose rep than it is to gain it. Going by that it makes sense that if you kill the same number of dudes from two factions who are at odds you will NET down with both because you have been killing both. Not sure how the major faction bit works, I guess the same positive and negative rep adjustments to the minor faction must filter up to the major one if you are down on those too.

What that means is that you need to be more picky with your targets but given the lack of direction and not necessarily knowing the outcome of your actions I have no idea how you do that!

Reading the latest updates you can take the bounty to any station held by the same faction.

1.1.04 patch said:
1.1.04 has gone live - the servers are up and running.

Client changes:
- Bounty vouchers can be redeemed at any starport in a system that also contains the faction which issued the bounty.
