You need to enable frame shift drive, if you cant you need to withdraw all weapons! This assumes you have enough fuel, or you can target another close system and jump to another system!

Aha that's what I did - frame shift drive! That was what got me to within 4hrs of the planet, however...

Yes, wait 12 months and buy the planetary landings expansion when it comes out.
It looks like I will just end up crashing into the planet and dying (as I did on my first outing in Fronter: Elite 2 all those years ago!) so I think I'll have to take a different course and find some goodies to trade!

My explorer Asp is pretty much done but I want to get some decent use out of my kitted-out Viper before I disappear into the yonder. Where should I be going, frontier systems I guess?

Another question, what is the best loadout, med lasers and small guns or t'other way round?

Edited by wolves_wanderer on Saturday 28th February 15:39
Consider a single medium beam, a medium multi cannon and 2 additional small multi cannons. It seems weird I know but I have this on my asp, 4 small 1 medium multis 1 medium beam. The laser Is big enough to kill shield fairly effectively. The multis totally ruin hulls and shields and its very heat efficient

Thanks, I will give that a go.

Some highlights for you. Worth reading the whole thing though as there may be others that affect you.

- Remove a spurious "Is Critical" flag from docking computer modules, you can no longer kill a ship by tickling one with a laser
- Fix FSDInterictor being a critical module

So until 1.2 target docking computer or interdictor for free wins?

- FrameShiftDrive no longer a critical module as rebooting can repair it

Same as above but assume it is harder to 'kill'

- Balance pass on extraction sites, better variety and increased respawn delay

Good and bad change.

- Balance pass on repair costs

Please don't make ASP more expensive Please don't make ASP more expensive Please don't make ASP more expensive Please don't make ASP more expensive Please don't make ASP more expensive smile

- If the collecting the cargo that we have targeted is illegal, say so in the target panel in the cockpit

QOL change for newbies

- AI should use lasers and projectiles based on target status, not range

Eek, baddies getting harder

- Add a keybinding to select the next route destination

Very welcome QOL change

- Fix issue where kills against orcas in assassination missions were not counting

Better late than never

- Stop gimbals and other weapons paying any attention to turret mode settings, it causes bad things

Wonder how many people this affected. Can't say I noticed because I don't have turret weapons so never configured turret mode, but I imagine a few people have been caught out.

That sounds like (temporary) fun. Will try it on some NPCs - don't know if they carry them though.

Agreed - extraction sites are currently extremely predicatable; once the generator is initialised it just keeps churning out the same types at the same frequency. I've been using this to my advantage to recycle camping at RES sites until it spawns Anacondas endlessly - but it really ought to have more variety.

I read that this is specifically to *reduce* the repair costs on larger ships, which is much needed. 50% hull damage on my Python costs one MEEEELION credits to repair.

It's going to be interesting to see where the new Fer de Lance fits in. 4 medium hardpoints and 1 huge sounds interesting IF the power/heat can be managed.

Been playing on beta 1.2 and I can't get the modules and weapons setup without enough power! You seem to have to reduce the lvl on 2 or more items to get the weapons required just to fill the class it's designed for. Tried both Vulcan and Fer De Lance, Vulcan is my fav as don't like the offset driving position of the Fer De Lance.

Hmm, I thought that might be the issue. What's the purchase price of the FdL?

I think I might stick with my Python; got 3 Class 3 beam lasers and 2 Class 2 beams on it at present (all gimballed) linked to primary and secondary fire. With an A7 Power Distributor it can discharge all 5 from full without overheating (just - gets to 125% heat) and recharges pretty quickly on 4 pips to weapons. Seems to be pretty effective.

Really? Do you keep it once the beta has ended and 1.2 is live?

Nah each time there is a new Beta they take an image of your current game then it disappears after patch is gone!

Just realised this game has been released, I know, slow on the uptake!!

Will be buying sooner rather than later, would ask though...

What controllers do you all use? Do I need a joystick/pad, or whatever?

Historically (past 3/4 years) my gaming has all been Keyboard input.

Ta!

P/S Thargons/Thargoids are they back? biggrin

Plenty of players in here will tell you there's no substitute for a high-end HOTAS joystick and throttle setup, ideally including pedals. They're probably correct, but if you're not quite that hardcore and/or don't have a couple of hundred quid to drop on such a setup then an Xbox 360 controller can be set up to work well.

Just keyboard for me, Cheese. There's a voice attack programme that allows you to talk to the computer but I seem to manage alright without.
Anyone know when Beta goes Alpha? I really wanna Ferdelance.
