Thanks for the info guys, I reckon I shall start with keyboard and see how it goes.

Historically , I've not got on well with Joysticks in the past, and I've found game/joypads clumsy owing to my big hands.

We shall see as they say. Ta

Had a lucky escape last night. I'm in a T7 which is a horrible, nasty, slow and unmanoeuvrable heap of ste. That said, I'm grinding credits for a while and it carries 232T of cargo (rather than my Asp's 128T) which means over 500k Cr per return trip on the run I'm currently doing. Obviously, having spent the last 10 days doing this, I'm bored to tears by now so I've been trying to minimise the times per leg. Cue much boosting in and out of the stations and docking as quick as possible hehe

Last night in a momentary lapse of concentration, whilst hauling 232T of gold (worth over 2M Cr) I clipped the top of the letter box. I'm not running any shields, so I got the massive clang followed by loads of sparks, I then bounced off this and back down to the bottom of the letter box before bouncing out the station. And then I clipped a Sidewinder on his way in. All of which took me down to 1% hull eek The cost of that extra 1% would have been 3.4M Cr!!

Yes, but as in the original you have to buy a docking computer to do it.

I never bothered , I don't entirely trust it, especially with other players around crashing into things....

I started with keyboard and mouse and did fine. Bought a joystick to use instead of mouse and it helps a bit (extra axis and more buttons frees up keyboard buttons for other things) but it isn't game-changing.

Thats true, I'd totally forgotten about the docking computer . Is it an expensive add on, credits wise?

I don't think keyboard & mouse are a disadvantage for solo play at least - it's what I've used. In PvP someone with all the gear (Rift, HOTAS, VoiceAttack etc.) might have the advantage, but do you care? Is that how you're going to play the game?

Dipped into ED after a couple of weeks break, updated to the latest patch (not the beta), popped to my usual nav-point, scanned a clean ship revealing a nice bounty so I blew her up, suddenly I'm wanted and being set upon by security services?! Had to fight my way out, dock in silent mode and pay off a 100K bounty.

It seems Komovoy isn't an anarchy any more. Oops, probably should have checked that.
Yup, a patch a few weeks ago gave the systems a good shake - lots of stations got completely renamed, systems changed type, commodities became unavailable/illegal where previously they were sold/legal.

No real rationale for this was given that I have seen. I raised a ticket and it got closed with a stock (unrelated and unhelpful) response.

It's not changed the game particularly and it only took a couple of days for the third party tools to get updated, but it was a bit un-nerving. FD are really showing their immaturity in the MMO game by not communicating well enough with the community.

Thanks all for the further comments/tips. Sounds very much like its a good idea to save game prior to docking computer assisted docking! laugh

Have to kmow though, does *that* music play in this version while docking?

It did in the beta.

Haven't used one since then.

Yep I remember the music from the docking sequence, it was great! But I've not used the docking computer in ED because 99% of the time I can dock quicker than the computer and it means I can fit something useful in it's place smile

I love docking I wish they including the docking music when asking permission to dock! Also don't trust docking computer as have been scared from the original game!

It does play the Strauss, yes. The computer has only crashed my ship once in many, many docks. I appreciate the opportunity to crack open another beer / make some tea / acknowledge the existence of my wife.

Can't imagine wanting a docking computer really. Especially if you're trading, docking is the only interesting bit really. FA off, rotational correction off, makes it actually fun smile

So I thought I'd do a bit of exploring. Traded for a bit to afford an A rated drive and powerplant for the cobra and a few other bits, then set off. After 300 LY I realised that I didn't actually have enough money to cover the rebuy cost headache, so I headed back in to earn a bit more cash. Fortunately I'd retained full sheilds and weapons so getting interdicted wasn't too worrying.

I've been heading down to the Orion nebula for a look see. Yesterday I came across one system which had 9 stars in it, including a neutron, and then this little beauty:

Can't be many of those about I shouldn't think!
