I just can't imagine playing 12 hours a day for a week, that would just completely kill the enjoyment for me.

I've played very slowly since release (been in since Alpha) and have progressed up to a nicely kitted out Cobra, I'm arming it to the teeth before I risk any combat.

About an hour ago I did some outfitting at a station, took on an illicit cargo mission and headed out. Suddenly realised I hadn't checked my insurance cover and came up 30 grand short, months of work on the line, heart rate rising. Thought I might as well try and finish the mission anyway, could actually feel the hairs on my neck standing up.
Station refused docking permission a couple of times (WHAT!!!) and I watched my ships temperature start to rise (silent running), finally got clearance and raced towards the station. Suddenly some idiot rises up from nowhere and parks right in front of the letterbox, I've got no shields and a rapidly overheating Cobra that isn't insured, it's all going to be for nothing!!!

Crept round him, charged in, slammed it down with the dashboard sparking and crackling and dropped into the hanger with seconds to spare.

Collapsed back in my chair.

It was a genuinely scary moment, I haven't had such excitement from a game since the original Doom download 20 odd years ago.

Cracking stuff!

Once you're into the hangar through the portal then AFAIK you can't be scanned? I've yet to use Silent Running and have only been scanned with illegal cargo maybe half a dozen times. If you're quick you can get in (and out if necessary) without worrying and being scanned.

Ahh well that would've saved me some stress certainly. Tbh though I thoroughly enjoyed the terror of it all!

I wish it to be known that the Fuel Rats are GODS among Men. Very friendly and helpful, apparently I was 'quite a way out' when I ran out of fuel but THREE of them flew thousands of ls to get to me. It may have been in vain but they tried their damnedest.

I found out about the Fuel Rats the other day and I'd also heard they are amazingly helpful. Not had to use them yet but seems a really great service, I'm even thinking of signing up to become one of them!

I love that the game environment has caused a group like this to exist. Its the sort of thing a game developer dreams of when you setup a sandbox.

Do you get a real physical address to deliver pizza to or something? smile

How do you make them aware of your plight/position?

Absolutely lovely stick. Saitek config software is a bit rough - but once you get the deadzones sorted, you fly like a dream.

Started playing this again recently (joined the T-1000 on Powerplay).

Was interdicted the other night and confident of my abilities and ship I thought "Sod it, let's fight!"

Forgot I was in the T7 and not my Vulture..... quickly realised due to the lack of hard points and so rammed his Cobra instead rofl

My Cobra is completely maxed out for combat, I have every available upgrade, spent about 20 million on modules and weapons and I still die instantly if I take anybody on 1 to 1.
I quite like hanging around RES's and picking people off after the police have ground them down to 10% hull but if I actually take on an interdictor or something I get pulverised!

I have no idea how I'm ever going to progress in combat. I'm using the thrusters, reversing, spinning, staying in the blue zone and all those other techniques but it's hopeless. Every engagement goes like this:

Ooh, someones interdicted me.
I'll just turn in here and see if I can land a shot on...
SMASH! SMASH! SMASH! SMASH! SMASH! SMASH! SMASH!
EJECT! EJECT! EJECT!
Die.

Losing a bloody fortune in rebuys.

It's still fun, though in some twisted way.

Are you using gimballed weapons?

I found the Cobra was best as a smuggler. I made a few million transporting slaves/narcotics in Federation space smile at that level I think the viper is the better combat ship.

Yep, all Gimballed. I did a lot of smuggling slaves to begin with and now I have found an 8 jump Rares run which I can make about 400/500k each round trip.
Trouble is I have to spend most of that on a rebuy.

I want to win a fight, just once.

The other day, after another smashing, I loaded up on Rares and headed out. After about 2 jumps I realised I was a couple of hundred grand short of my insurance premium, I decided to carry on. If I'd been interdicted I would have lost everything, months of effort, hours and hours of sweat, back into a Sidey. Other games just aren't like this, it's fantastic.

I'm not really sure what you're doing as my Cobra is pretty deadly to any 'normal' ship up to and including an Asp. Can you take a picture of your load out and upgrades?

Don't know how to do that MC but I have:

4 x Gimballed Beams D's (most expensive ones I could find, got all this stuff from High Techs)
2 x B Shield Boosters.
A4 Power Plant, Shield Gen, FSD
A3 Power Dist, Sensors
B4 Thrusters
Mirrored Composite Hull
Advanced Scanner
D's or C's for all the non combat stuff.

Rebuy is 240 grand and I have the early backer discount.

It's a weapon basically (or is it?) but I can't fight for toffee!

I was considering Beams on Turrets and Gimballed Multi Cannons on main mounts, not sure if that would help.

You will need a couple of SCB's for PvP and some A rated boosters. The strength of the Cobra is its boost speed, use that to get away from an interdict or until you've worked out what you're dealing with. The cobra is very "thin" when approaching head on, makes it quite hard to hit if your opponent has gimbals. The cobra also has a decent turn rate so if you can get "inside" your oppo then that can work.

However there's a lot of PvPs out there with honed skills and if they get the jump on you and your shields can't hold out long enough for you to escape or retaliate then it can all be over very quickly.

For proper PvP it seems you need a load out dedicated to the job with many banks of SCBs. Means you can't have a real multi role configuration that can hold its own against a dedicated specialist.

Shield cell boosters. I think I've got a couple.

My weapon load out for my Cobra is 2x Gimballed multi cannons and 2x Gimballed beam lasers and I have a very beefy Reactor (A2 14MW I think) but shields go down rather quickly and the cannons make short work of most things after that.
