Since my last post about this money making glitch, well it's still on. Stack slave missions.

Last time my fine was 90 odd million.

It's now bounty but my earnings are over 200 million for a few hours play.

My current bounty....

So, the process is exactly the same but, the penalty is a bounty rather than a fine?! If so.... Sweet, I'll be all over that tonight! thumbup

Regarding this bounty, we will find out in a few days, we plan on letting the time expire on it. Not sure if it is going to work, been there with this before.

A year or two back I met up with PHers, Philbo and Castex. Phil has a sizeable fine and he let Castex and myself shoot him. IIRC the fine was about 40 mil, Castex and I got about 500k each. That was a while ago though, many game updates since so we will see!

Is the location the same? Robigo Mines?

It seems unlikely that such a large bounty would just vanish (is that what normally happens with bounties?)

Yeh it's the mines. 3 of us went out last night again for another look.

Sat yapping about life, wifes, beer, cars while clicking merrily away.

I did nip out there last week to make asbolutely sure the lockdown status was correct (it was!) so, have already bumped up my reputation with them quite a bit using an intermediate scanner (which almost paid for itself during the round trip!).

I'll pick up 50T of whatever they import before heading over there later which will get me to cordial and then hit the quick and easy mission board missions to make up the difference.

Sooo, I went out to Robigo last night, had to do a little local trading to get my rep up and had a crack at it. Seemed to work fine but, as I had limited time last night, left it until this morning.

So, there I was quite happily glitching away when all sorts of strange things started to happen. The game crashed 4 times at least and kicked me out completely. A couple of times, I got a message telling me the mission had failed (before I had even abandoned it). When this happened, it would not let me sell the slaves on the black market so, I had to discard them in order to pick up more missions.

It sort of felt a bit like they were trying to patch it while I was playing! I have probably made around 10mill credits (I am limited to those missions with less than 52T cargo space required) and have a fine equal to the money I have made. In terms of losing the bounty, is there anything to stop me just heading to an extraction zone and waiting to be scanned and killed to wipe the bounty? Surely I can then just re-buy my cobra (which is surprisingly cheap at around 75k) and spend my ill gotten gains?

I also started reading about long haul mission stacking in Sothis (which is only 4 jumps away) which can net huge amounts and has the added bonus of zero fines and therefore no bounty to worry about. I'm going to look into that tonight and, if it is as lucrative as the internet suggests, I may go down that route instead.

biggrin Well at least it worked.

The glitches are not just you, we have has to discard slaves due random failures, game crashes etc. It wasn't a big problem for us given the amount of credits we were making.

There is some weird stuff going on with the servers though and I think you need to be cautious here after my mate did some reading up...

Getting yourself killed should clear your fine, however be sure it's a fine. For some odd reason I have a bounty (now over 300 million) that has another 3 days to go. After that we think it turns to a legacy fine. After my mate did some googling, apparently, if you get yourself killed in the system where your fine is, your legacy fine gets attached to your re buy costs so in your case, your Cobra will cost 10 mil to get back. This is the situation my mate is in. We have both left robigo so we should be ok. We going to blow each other up tonight and see what happens!

Your plan B sounds reasonable enough, why not give it a go. 10 mil at your stage is a decent starter and will kit out that cobra nicely or see you get a bigger ship depending on where you want to go in the game. Have fun!

Oh, that's okay then. If it is something that just 'happens' then, all good. I did a bit of googling too. The fines are apparently fines for a week before they become a bounty (if left unpaid). The way I see it, I now have a week to explore other options and if I decide that I really don't want to worry about a bounty on my head (assuming I have made lots of cash by other means), I can simply return to Robigo and pay the fine to avoid the bounty.

Am I right in thinking that, as long as it is only a fine, it is only a problem in the Robigo system and won't have any impact on my gameplay elsewhere?

When I sacrificed myself the bounty was capped for the other players (i.e. they didn't get the full value) but when I died I had to pay off the full amount.

Last time I played (over a year ago) the last thing I did was the last Robigo exploit which was actually to complete the slave run missions because they were worth so much, in fact I discovered another exploit which was to take the mission, sell the slaves and take more missions until I had to deliver about 500t worth of slaves. Then I would hop over to the destination area and buy slaves locally - saved all of the effort of the transit between systems. I made more billions doing that.

I tried to pick this up again recently just to see where the game has gone - I've been keeping up with all the Thargoid developments on the newsletters and forum - but when I got back into my ships I found they had rebalanced all the power demands so I was going to have to spend a load more time re-optimising my ships. And I found I just didn't have the energy to go off and do the grind for the Engineers.

Will still keep up with developments just in case full scale war with the Thargoids breaks out...

That's genius! I'll have to give that a try!

What I did in the end last night was transport 52T of various things (mainly poo) from Sothis/Ceos back to the bubble. In my Cobra this was about 30 jumps but, wasn't too bad. Made about 7mill so, clearly a lucrative endeavour. Went and bought myself an ASP explorere (from Lembava for the discount) and modified it for 80T cargo with a jump range of 30+ light years. Hopped back to Robigo (only 15 jumps to cover over 400+ light years....happy days!) and paid off my 10mill fine and still have 3 million in the bank.

I reckon I can make 10 - 12 million in a single long haul if I stack the right missions. Not as lucrative as the exploit perhaps but, I get to be a Space Trucker and who wouldn't want to be one of those thumbup

I always enjoyed keeping up with your tales in this thread Phil.

I have been playing since Beta but I don't get a lot of time, a few hours a week maybe. I have a couple of hundred million plus another 60 or 70 worth of assets and love the game. The Engineers however is really starting to piss me off.
I love that you can "do what you want" in this game but the Engineers side of things is becoming almost compulsory, everybody has the mods so you MUST join in, I hate that. I don't have time to grind all around the galaxy doing favours for them so I will probably struggle as the game progresses.

Worst thing in the game IMHO.

Fair points made for sure.

Flip side being I do like the engineers. I guess if you are into your PvP ( I am) engineers have really changed the game.

Before you could scan someone and see what 'heat they are packing' making it all, somewhat 'yeh ok, this is what i'm up against'. I like the fact that now, whilst you can see the weaponry you just DON'T KNOW what your up against. You might get some clues - seeing someone with stacks of mines might make me worry about my shields but for the most you have no idea if those multi cannons have incendiary or corrosive or just std?

Fast boot FSD? The guy could be gone in seconds. Dirty drives, st I'll never catch him ( or out run him yikes) For me anyway it's just spiced PvP up nicely. Sure most people aren't in the game for that, fair enough. With that, I don't think you MUST have engineer mods. PvP can be avoided.

Yes it is a grind to get the mods, but when (apart from glitches talked about quite recently) has this game not been about grinding most things out?

Can anyone recommend a decent combat load out for the Cobra mk3 - I have been hunting bounties as part of the community event and had thought I had been doing quite well (currently in the top 50%) however I am not sure my ship is doing much in the way of damage. Being a high security system the 5-0 swarm the target pretty quickly so I cant really gauge whether I am doing the damage or the other ships are.

At the moment I only have 2F pulse laser and 1G multi canons. Seemingly the only load out that seems to work and delivery some damage (despite being minimal).

Do I just need to track down some A grade lasers / multi cannons or are there some better weapons to use?

Does this web site help?

I've only put in the weps you say you have. As you can see the damage per second is minimal but actually ok for your size of ship.

I've used this web site before as a guide to price up what I can afford not only to buy, but to power.

Maybe have a play about with different load outs and see what you think?

If you have access to engineers you can seriously ramp up your fire power but that is a grind to get them going. As you may very well go on to bigger more powerful ships later, grinding engineer mods may be a waste of time at your stage of the game.

Thanks for the link!

I have tried a few load outs and to be honest they all seem a bit weak sauce, so I went back to the pulse lasers and the multi cannons. I could be wrong but i think I can only get @f & 1G weapons for the Cobra? Flew to a few other systems looking for some better weapons based on the link you gave me and they didn't have anything better.

The issue I have is that if I go against a target that has shields, buy the time I have knocked them down I end up taking some serious damage. I am still new to the game but I play to my class and keep moving and shooting to make me harder to hit. I racked up 5.5m bounty hunting on the last community goal but my tactic was to get the get the attention of the pilot with a few zaps and then run for the system security vessels who would then jump in and help out leading to some easy kills. One on one its a lot harder (obviously) but i think a lot of that is due to crap weapons.

I had a fight with another Cobra Mk3 and even with 4A shields he knocked them out in one pass and then proceeded to absolutely batter my ship. Managed to FSD out with about 20% left - literally went from 100% to 20% in less than 10 seconds, so clearly its possible to get a decent Cobra load out - just cant seem to work out what it is or find the necessary upgrades.

Not played this for ages on the PC. I was on the Kickstarter..... I do intend to play again on PC but purchased yesterday and started again on the Xbox .... It's a bit weird after 3 screens an X52 and Trackir !

I've just tried docking in my nice fresh Sidewinder and actually ended up sampling the cold, hard vacuum of Space !!!

Any tips ? Not for docking ! Just generally on Xbox ...

That's another good web site.

Just a thought, is it worth posting up a list of the useful websites? It could, I guess it could go on the Ed players wiki which is conveniently attached to the list of PHer Gamer sticky.

We could start one, quote and quote on it over the next few days/weeks to get a decent list then put it on the wiki?
