Been getting back into this since October.

Had a near miss this evening, jumping into a system where there are two stars close together at the jump in point, I appeared alongside the red star good job I didn't pull away from the orange star to the right or I would have been going into it.

I moved away for a screenie though.

I've not really engaged much with the latest Thargoid content as I did with the Formidine Rift stuff and I've got a bit bored of the Bubble so I've decided to go to Beagle Point via Colonia and strike them both off while they start fleshing out the core gameplay next year. I wanted to get a Cutter but I don't have the credits at the moment nor am I that keen on the dull grind from Outsider to Duke when the Navy Rank system may be changing for the better next year.

I've already made about 40 million in 7k light years so far so I should be minted by the time I get back to the Bubble for fitting out a well equipped Cutter plus rebuys.

Look for a passenger mission to Sag A /Beagle point/Colonia, might add 20million credits to your journey.
For an idea of exploration value, I travelled Cubeo to Sag A and back, 20ly jump range in a Clipper, and made about 400million credits in data alone. That was generally jumping scooping and honking with the odd scan.

So Commander Jameson's (he of old Elite) Cobra has been found crashed on a remote planet in the middle of nowhere in the Arietis Sector.

So I went to have look myself.

Ah there it is.

Be extra careful if playing in open. Griefers are in that area (as well as at Sag A and Beagle Point eek )

I've now managed to rack up 20m and a combat rating of expert after my fresh start on the Xbox. Not been on the PC now for at least 12 months.

Is there any new fangled ways to make cash quickly ? I'm making around 1m an hour in High Extraction Zones...

Planetary scan missions, around 20m/hr maybe more, but certainly 40m worth of missions in one go within just 2 close systems and you do it one hour it's 40m/hr

Go to Aditi. There are 3 empire factions there that all provide planetary scan missions to the neighbouring system where the same 3 empire factions also live (and they do the same back to Aditi), once you have done the basic missions to gain local reputation those scan missions are worth 2m-3m each.

All you need is a planetary hangar, SRV and preferably an advanced system scanner. Plus you are ranking up in the Empire Navy as well so you'll unlock ships and system permits too.

Almost all of the scans are simple land & scan. Some might be protected by a red force field, entering it will activate skimmers (like shooting a turkey with a shotgun at 5ft) or a ground laser gun and larger emplacment. They can all be taken out before entering as well. You will get a wanted bounty once you activate the data point though if they are private data points (red force field), usually a 600cr bounty and a 8min cool off. So either save your game and come back 8mins later (wanted will be gone but the bounty still needs paying off) or if you have missions to the other system go there and do them, until you get a bounty or finish them and come back. Bounties you pay will always be smaller than the bounties you pick up for destroying the lasers and skimmers.

You can have a maximum of 20 missions at one time, if you haven't got 20 you can do the old log off to main menu and change game mode to open or solo check missions board again and there should be more, then go back to your preferred game mode.

The game can bug out missions, sometimes when you have just scanned a outpost and you go back to your ship the outpost is still marked as a mission, so you take off go above 40km up and around 200km away then do a u-turn and go back to scan it again for another mission completion. I did this 5 times once, missions to other outposts even systems were completed. Now it might be a bug or it might change your destinations depending on what's scanned. But I think it's a bug.

I was last there on November 24th, above correct at that time. Currently the 3 empire factions are experiencing Boom, outbreak and civil unrest, which is what it was on 24th. There was no controlling faction which I think is also good for missions.

The two systems:
Aditi - https://inara.cz/galaxy-starsystem/21346/
Synuefe RT-R C20-7 - https://inara.cz/galaxy-starsystem/42646/

I use station PEW-1901 in Aditi for the missions as a lot of them tend to be for Morrow Peek a close planet.

Just an FYI, I can't remember when the big money missions come in, if it's allied or friendly reputation with them but you can boost them with money donations, or even drop off any cartographic data to get started. I passed 2 ranks in one session. I got up to Baron, puchased the Clipper now doing Federation up to get a Corvette. I have also splurged on a Federal Assault ship to join my space garage that I use for missions.

My November credit/asset balance.

start - 6.5m / 18.4m
finish - 177m / 358m

I did spend a few million on Imperial and Federation (what I'm doing now) donation missions so it did go down at some points.

I'm doing 30 million plus an hour which will shortly rise to 50 an hour. Takes a little while to set up and you need a Python.

No but that's a good shout.
Sothis Mining to Ceos New Dawn. 224 cargo Python and allied with all 4 factions. Just haulage, always plenty on offer and take 20 data/courier jobs each way. Round trip takes about 15 minutes and 8 to 12 is easy doable. Get the odd 5 trip so 30 plus an hour is normal.

I'm just about to run the Python back to the bubble and drop my shield generator for another 64 cargo. A bit risky but should up the average to about 50 an hour.

It takes a while to get ultra matey with all the factions and the big runs don't appear until then.

After getting an Amazon voucher for Christmas, i decided it was time to update the elite setup and get a HOTAS, i've invested in the T16000m with the FCS throttle.

As a noob to an actual joystick i admit it's a brilliant bit of immersion but is difficult in trying to get used to it, i've deployed hardpoints in far too many stations and trying to remember which button does what has been fun, trying to deploy hardpoints using the button and hitting silent running has been a good one when trying to bounty hunt.

So, has anyone got any tips for the HOTAS newbie and any help in where to go and what to do? It's been nearly a year since i last logged in and I feel far too fresh, ended up selling my vulture back to a viper mk4 just to save on the insurance.

Finally got some play time for this again having been absent for a while. So it seems I have a T6 and was doing rare runs when I last played. Boring! Anyway have an Oculus, will travel, might build something up and do an outer rim run or something!

Other than print this out and have it in front of you at all times until you remember biggrin The only advice I would give (as a HOTAS X user) don't think twice before mapping buttons back to your keyboard that you will only use occasionally such as landing gear or silent running, this will prevent you from accidentally activating them or something else as you went to select them. So no boosting in stations instead of gear down type incidents.

Where to go, what to do? Do you want to explore and check the latest Thargoid stuff out or increase ranks & credits?

Thank you so much for that graphic, i've been trying to find a large scale picture of it for a day now. I've started trying to remap buttons and am slowly but surely getting used to it, i looked at hotas x but this was only 20 quid more as a pack and 20 quid less than the setup individually purchased so was a no brainer for something i'd never justify with my own money.

In regards with what to do, until i take the plunge on VR i don't get a buzz from exploration, i did the whole asp scout thing into the stars and made a bit of money but it took days of scooping and hoping the small % incrimental damage you stack up would allow me to make it to a safe station. I enjoy the bounty hunting as i've never been able to do the missions without just getting ganked by 3 ships. I'm still trying to figure out how to get something manouverable and damaging, i love the eagle, it was such a nimble little thing but one good gun run from something would finish your shields or pop the cockpit easily. I did try the vulture and loved it's hull smashing laser power, but the insurance and paper thin cockpit screen made it a money loser overall.

It's good to see that some people are still playing this, I'm impressed with where FD have taken the game and delivering incremental updates within the Horizons cost envelope. A lesson for the Star Citizen team on how to deliver a crowd funded game...

Unfortunately I just can't bring myself to pick the game up again. I totally maxed myself out in 2015 and took a break - when I came back, all my ships needed to be re-optimised for heat management and then I would need to start the Engineers cycle to get upgraded.

And the thing I like least about the whole edifice is the need to keep up with the forums (with a very low signal:noise ratio) in order to stay current with the new content. If you just played the game, you'd miss out on nearly all the "scripted" stuff.

But I think it's a stunning game and good to see there's still love for it.

Sounds like you need an injection of credits to buy and kit out a ship to do what you want, with plenty of rebuy left. Now there are plenty of places to get high paying missions, local passenger runs, planetary scan missions and so on. But I would start at exploring, sorry it needs to be done but it can be done quickly and easily.

Have a look here - http://edtools.ddns.net/expl.php?a=v put in your start system and an end system, set deviation to 50 ly and calculate. It will return all the systems between start and finish, deviating by up to 50 ly and list all the High Metal Content (HHC), Earth Like World (ELW) and Terraformable Water Worlds (TWW). Metal worlds pay between 300k-400k cr per scan, and ELW and TWW pay 600k-750k each. Add all those up and you very quickly get millions, plus the initial scan of each system you visit and travel through. You just need an advanced discovery scanner and a detailed surface scanner. You can run light with no weapons and smallest shield, do it in solo and if you do get interdicted by an NPC just submit and let it scan, you are carrying no cargo so it will go away.

This website (wasn't online when I originally started to write this post, probably updating but it's back online but still updating I think so try it later) https://www.spansh.co.uk/riches is a better explorer search site. Put in your start and finish, your ship's range, how far of a direct route you will go, limit it to bodies within 8,000 ls of the star, how many bodies maximum and even minimum scan value. It will list all, included values and number of jumps, print it out. smile
  • *************************************

I did an 80 body and 75 jump route in one evening, earning me 40m so it shouldn't take ages. Now if you set your finish system as a populated system you want to go to once you have your 30m-100m credits earned, sell it at in that system at the controlling factions station. You will get immediately allied to that faction opening up the highest paying missions or passenger runs if you so wish.

Or a aim for a system with a good shipyard and outfitters especially one in the Li Yong-Rui controlled space, they all off 15% discounts on ships and modules, good ones like Ohm City station in LHS 20 or Scully Power station in Ix or my home system Ray Gateway in Diaguandri

Then of course there are the engineers to unlock and improve your ship further - https://inara.cz/galaxy-engineers/

With the better website working properly again I did a route, imagine you have just unlocked the engineer Felicity Farseer and you have gone to Maia to buy the 4 tons of Meta alloys you need to get her to fiddle with your FSD.

Here is an exploration route from Maia to Farseer's base in Deciat - https://www.spansh.co.uk/riches/results/7FFC9176-F...

(based on a basic unengineered AspX jump range of 34 ly)

no more than 60 ly off the direct route, 150 bodies to scan, total 159 jumps and a total value of 91m credits. Add to that the credits for an ADS honk of every system and maybe an extra planet or two, always scan extras if they are close by your target, sometime they are twin planets or moons in orbit.
