I'm now 2 weeks and 5 days of game play/450 hours.

I've managed two Elites, and I'm working on Combat (currently Expert).
yikes Something must have changed...took me about 8 months to get to that point on V1.0 and I was playing it 30hrs+/week in a very focussed way to hit those goals. IIRC it took the competition winner about 6 months to get to triple Elite with a bigger time investment.

Some of the exploits have made credit acquisition trivial but I didn't know it was possible to rank up so quickly. Right On Commander!

Interestingly (to me anyway), i did most of it by chasing Engineering. Since you have to do a bit of everything to progress - like a 5k LY trip from your starting point - most of came fairly naturally. I finished exploration with Road to Riches though. Trade was weird; I was doing passenger missions early on and made 2/3rds my way through without really noticing. Then I switched to a Type 9 and Imperial Slaves.. but found a system offering 10s of millions if I didn't mind spending 30mins in supercruise. So, doing that smashed trade in a few hours.

Combat is another thing all together. I don't intend to grind it out so I suspect it may be months before I see Elite.

In the meantime, trade and exploration got me the Corvette and Admiral without grinding or trying. I'm not that far with Empire purely because I seem to spend most of my time in Federation systems. I DO have the Cutter though. I intend to get "King" because of completeness.

None of it exploit-based either as far as I can tell, but how the game is designed (albeit, perhaps that's wrong!).

So, I need Dangerous to open the last Engineer. I still haven't seen a Thargoid, but I did just buy a Type 10 to go punch one in the nethers, when the rest gets boring smile

By "exploit" I didn't mean a bug - I meant the game working (apparently) as designed but with envelope-pushing mechanics. Things like the Robigo smuggling runs were introduced and survived multiple updates, so must have been as intended, but they made credit acquisition trivial. A couple of weeks doing that and you could get enough credits to A-grade an entire fleet.

Interesting that the Engineering path takes you up the ranks almost as a side effect. Probably a good thing for people coming to the game now, but not so good for the early adopters.

Federation capital ship repair dock parked right outside the station. If your name isn't on the list you're not getting it.

It seems to be moving.

Attached to the station.

Next visit and it's drifting off, I think someone didn't tie the mooring rope properly.

Me and a few friends tried to take on a 'goid interceptor (Threat 5) last night and failed miserably.

Got the first heart down to 60% by the time our wing of 4 was wiped. Good fun doing it though.

Wing was of:

AspX (Me) - R2 AX MC, R2 AX ML
AspX - R2 AX MC, R2 AX ML
Conda - 2x R2 Flak, 2x R3 AX ML, 2x R3 AX MC
Vulture - 2x R2 Flak

Just didn't have the damage output one we had exploited the heart.

Flaks kept the swarms down, missiles kept the hearts out. Just the heart modules wouldn't die so got killed in attrition.

Its probably due to having the two combat asp's in the wing, the other one had a T-10 but couldn't get it to Merope in less then 55 jump which may help once its more outfitted.

Anyone successfully killed 'goids on here?

Not touched the Thargoids, never met one, never been hyperdicted either despite being around the Merope/Pleiades sector quite a bit when they were attacking and I had also been to check out Liman Legacy on fire.

I have been to see Jameson's crashed ship (few pages back on here) and listened to his audio log, in my opinion Aegis are to blame, the Thargoids have only attacked Aegis stations so far I think. And sent Jameson on a mission that started their revenge. So Aegis can be destroyed by the Thargoids, I won't be trying to stop it. smile

Oh and the Farragut ship dock moved again. I think it's stalking me.

Found out that there's a really nice bug IRT wing fighting Thargoids... Where only the instance creator can do damage... That'll be why we got destroyed then.

Apparently in wings of 3 or more there's a known issue where everyone apart from the person who initiated the drop into the USS can't do damage. So broken and what a waste of a rebuy.

Have just encountered my first wreckage due to thargoids. Collected a sensor, which proceeded to rot my ship from the inside.

New cargo racks needed I think.

Q1 update launches in beta on Jan 25th.

With it comes the crime and punishment update, and a complete rejig of mission payouts. So anyone wanting to cash in on the current highly profitable passenger missions, I'd get on it.

Bought the game about a week ago, and with casual play, have a conda with 250m in the bank...

Where did you read that? ED forums? I've been out the game for a while and need to get up to speed with things before I get back into it.

That's just wrong, IMO. I have no problem with anyone doing it, given the opportunity. I probably would have, and I was guilty of leveraging a couple of flawed mechanisms along the way.

But the 8 month battle to progress slowly up through the fleet ranks into a Conda made it much more worthwhile to get there, via the journey.

I actually read this whole thread through the other night as it traced the challenges that we faced in 2014/2015 going through the ranks (slowly) and grinding credits. I actually enjoyed those years much more than I did when making billions via Robigo runs. It felt like every credit counted, and the pain of losing a ship and it's cargo...well the evidence of that is all over this thread on the first few pages (mostly from me whinging, tbh!)

But conda+250m after 1 casual week...the designers have seriously lost touch with the game. Even if they're balancing it, to allow it get to this state and continue like it for months is wrong.

Doesn't sound good to me either - took me forever to get an ASP with fully upgraded bits and enough money to cover a loss. Many an hour exploring the unpopular areas of the galaxy (not towards the centre or edge but the bulges underneath and above populated space) to get a pittance in return.....
The sense of achievement to get the ship you wanted - guess it is easy come easy go now.
Oh well - haven't played for awhile so may have to head back in over the weekend.....

Took me a long time to get into an Asp.
I’ll admit I wasn’t focussed on efficiency.

I just blasted the st out of pretty much anything I could. Didn't earn me any real money but it got my Elite combat rating and a decent fleet - after a few years of play laugh

I remember when Philbo, myself and Castex met up in the hope Castex and I might get a nice bounty from Philbo's dead or alive poster. Half a million each IIRC. That was a st load of cash to me at the time. Didn't work as I remember but was a nice offer. smile
