An old video now but we might see some of these monsters bobbing around. If they get to be player ships is a different matter!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE8B4KptyVI#t=149

Edit - Apparently there was scripted Capital ship events shown at the premiere event so they are in there somewhere.

Majestic class interdictor is the only one that's been seen and it is an npc ship, its empire faction so the assumption can be made that their are at least 2 other similar size, they are big, bigger than a station.

Its not beyond the scope of the game that it will be a player flyable ship, or at least usable as a station.

See newsletter #1 & #2 for reference, and the recording of the twitch gamma launch event where 3 players attack THE majestic.

They aren't bigger than a station, they are 2km long.

Coriolis is 4km across, orbis is 8km diameter.

Dimensions are all listed somewhere on the sites, this came up on the forum a while back....

Hard to say, if you watch the throttle position indicator it is jumping around all over the place while he is dogfighting.

I think he was yanking it around as he was switching the flight computer on and off, you need to cut the engines asap to get the full benefit of turning away from your velocity vector. It could have been pre-recorded though to smooth things along, but its unlikely looking at the rest of the production.

Indeed! I've been trying to get used to flipping the flight computer on/off, I'm just crap at dogfighting though. I will be sticking to exploring and trading for a while yet.

This looks like it's worth pre-ordering?

I've been playing the very early alpha version of Star Citizen and the dog fighting in that is pretty fun so I think this might be right up my street.

The ships fly very differently to star citizen, which is a good thing IMO, better two different games than two games that are the same.....but you won't just jump easily from one to the other, it takes practice.

I prefer elite, some prefer star citizen....Both will probably be worth getting in the end.

Ive got both, starcitizen wont be out of alpha/beta for another 2 years I think, elite is out in a couple of week, no brainer if you like sci-fi, and as has been said 2 very different games.

Elite to me does feel a bit aimless atm, ive mainly been doing space trucking, but ive started getting friendly with certain factions and that really ramps up the mission rewards, and its nice pulling up to a station that is green with green ships flying around it.

Oh my, just discovered Voice Attack!
You can use VA to map key binds to voice commands!

'Battle Stations!'
'Arm missiles'
'Jump to Hyperspace!'

With Oculus Rift and voice control this really is the future of gaming.

Aye great bit of software for so little price! You can add custom voices and used for non-gaming also!

Yeah there's another product HCS that adds an AI that responds to your commands and adds conversation and interaction!
Thinking about setting it up for my world of tanks too, to change shells, zoom and use repairs, just for the hell of it.

I paid $20 for it which gave me a bunch of stuff (anniversary deal), but I agree the game has an awful lot to live up to considering they are about to hit $65 Million in funding ..

I've watched loads of Braben interviews and convention speeches; he's really not good at the latter, he gets sidetracked and leaves a lot of points unfinished, however he is REALLY good at the bigger picture, this is a guy with not just an idea of what his game could become, but a guy with a lifelong ambition to share his vision with the rest of us.

To achieve this he needs buy-in from players, a sustainable financial model, flexibility to adapt to the developing game environment from the player's perspective and a studio that can deliver the environment.

So a crude 1-10 imo.

Buy-in 7/10, fan base is large, but it's lots of 40+ BBC micro fathers, how do they get the minecraft gen interested?

£ model 4/10 overly reliant on micro transactions thus far, ship skins that will only ever be seen in the hangar as combat is too ranged to appreciate your opponent's taste in paint, expansion cost may up this score but need to strike the balance between content that is more than cosmetic and play to win.

Flex, 9/10 here I have the most faith, the early adopters seem to be embracing the format and tech additions such as oculus, Track IR/EDtracker, Voice Attack really add to the immersion and also the future proofing.

Studio, 8/10 full on wow factor in terms of environmental quality, soundscape and looks, a few small but important details missing; the ability to pre-program a multi-site jump route runs counter to the tech level, markets need work as does the ship upgarde system and intergarated voice comms.

I really hope they survive the early days and generate an ongoing income stream. Personally I've alreacy invested in a HOTAS and Voice Attack so I guess it's hell or high water...

I briefly considered a $15,000 pledge on a fantasy spaceship for a half finished idea of a game.... after all, what could possibly go wrong?

but then I went for the £20 option, still might have been a mistake, but I'm remaining hopeful.

we are still technically in beta, im hoping to see the micro-transaction products ramped up (they have to fund the game somehow and people spend a lot on this crap), bobbleheads for a start (they where in during alpha), people will spend money on those especially if they are linked to pop sci-fi culture, bobbling serenity or jebediah kerman on your dashboard, yes please, their is a good amount of scope to add stuff to the shop for small amounts of money that are cosmetic, different dash colours, bumper stickers/window stickers, etc

My guess is that they have a small amount ready to go but the team that will be working on them are doing polish

A couple of my mates are using x52 pro's, im using mouse and keyboard.

Yaw is on buttons for me, and it seems to work fine, yaw is so slow on most ships that I cant see how being able to vary the thrust would matter too much, but then aren't the hat switches analogue, id assumed they where?

I used to use the throttle friction slider as rudder control on DCS before I figured out I could use my wheel pedals as rudder pedals.

The slew switch on the throttle lever is analogue.

The coolie switch on the throttle lever would be good choices for on/off yaw control? Or one of the 4 switches on the stick. Spoilt for choice!
