what buttons do you use for adjusting power distribution? none of the buttons on any of the hotas systems look ideal. These hotas systems just don't look like they have enough buttons to me.

I find its best to use the keyboard for power control. WASD or something more slightly random.

To be fair Star Citizen is in a pre alpha stage...ED is in late Beta coming close to full release.

Will be another 2 years before SC comes out. In the mean time plenty of people will play ED, when SC comes out some people will switch to SC and never load ED again, others will play both and some wont give SC the time of day.

I plan of playing both as I love these types of games. However, I believe the fidelity and scope of SC is much grander than ED, to me it feels like SC is a gaming generation ahead of ED but a couple years behind in developement schedule. This is partially due to the fact their budget is so large enabling them to have 300+ working on the game at this very time.

Im looking forward to seeing what they come up with and dont forget Chris Roberts himself said he plans on this game being about for 10+ years after release. This is where he will make his money and where we will see the expansion just like with ED.

I'm using the Thrustmaster T-Flight, as are many others. A bit bargain basement compared to the expensive stuff but at £40 it does everything I want and of course includes that all-important yaw twist. To be honest I'm more limited by the controls that ED allows you to map (PLEASE can we have a third fire button...) than the number of buttons on the controller.

This is true. We will just need to wait and see. We are expecting SC to launch with the SQ42 single player missions which apparently have 50+hours of game play and also a fairly complete PU. It shouldnt have a feeling of being incomplete or empty like some are saying about ED but in a couple of years I fully expect ED to have had lots of patches and content added.

I'm using the hat switch, so whilst dogfighting I can shift power around whilst maneuvering.

Im assuming you have 2 hats, 1 for maneuvering thrusters and 1 for shifting power? I often find myself using thrusters, turning, shifting power and firing weapons all at the same time, I use mouse and keyboard.

I use the arrow keys for shifting power distribution shield etc and number pad for throttle (find the throttle on joystick too sensitive) and only 1 hats for thruster! number pad is great as I can go full fwd n back instant. Its all each to their own but i couldnt to away with twist on the joystick for yaw control!

using the left/right axis behind the throttle and two of the button on it's side for this at the moment but am going to change to a shift button setup before it's too late to relearn my instincts.

Good thread here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=161...

going to move to this setup or something close to, it uses the button on the throttle as shift modifiers, controls in black are base state, then blue, red, green are when holding down one of the three throttle side buttons. It'll take some hours of learning but once it becomes second nature and with voice Attack set up it should all start to flow.

This is exactly the layout that I'm using. I've tweaked a couple of the controls for personal taste but the use of modifiers means that there is no shortage of buttons. The only time I ever have to touch the keyboard is to hit escape when I want to quit the game.

I bought an X55 for ED. Haven't played much yet but it seems to have all the right buttons in the right places.

On my x52 I use the 2 hats for target-selection and power distribution, my throttle has small stick at the rear for lateral thrust.

Im prepared for their to be a wipe but im guessing they wont, since they keep referring to gamma as head-start.

Just back onto control systems, im using an MMO mouse (Logitech g600) and keyboard, I have full control of my ship from the mouse and can fly 1 handed, I even dogfight npc's 1 handed, I generally don't as I as some thing cant be pressed at the same time, I still have stuff mapped to my keyboard.

The executive producer poster on the official forum "People were demanding to know whether there would be a wipe upon release after I provided a heads up that there might be. To be certain at this stage we have to take the safe choice and that would be a wipe on release."

I don't think there is any great advantages to be had if you're playing with keyboard + mouse, 360 pad or HOTAS. I imagine its a different story if you are using OR though.

You need to get your throttle in the blue area on the indicator to get the best turn speed. There are also a few tricks you can pull with the vertical thrusters to get targets in your sights quicker, depending on what they are doing. You can also use flight assist off to turn while maintaing the same vector, as opposed to flying a loop like you do with flight assist on. The trick is to learn all these tricks smile

The ships are mainly big ponderous things anyway though, compared with many other space games where you fly nippy little fighters. Yaw is mega slow though, but useful for fine aiming.

The tutorials are useless, they explain nothing.

I struggled with a xbox pad so I may have just got an X52 (oops, still hiding it from the wife).

Preordered it, but probably won't start playing it 'till after chrimbo. Looks very shiny though.
