Is this the same guys who are doing Star Citizen?
If so what are the differences?
If not... what are the differences?

Well a big difference is that elite releases tomorrow, star citizen is a long way off. Though they will continue to add features to both games for some time to come.
Flight model: Elite is pitch and roll based, and the ships are big lumbering things, fights are slower, Star citizen is pitch and yaw based, ships are smaller and more twitchy, they play very differently.
Getting out of the ship: Star citizen will allow you to get out of your seat and get out of the ship at release, elite will have this eventually as well, but it will be an expansion pack that you have to pay for.
Galaxy: Star citizen is a smaller (still big) galaxy than elite that is mostly hand made by the developers, Elite simulates the whole milky way in 1:1 scale, but only the main human populated areas are hand made, most is procedurally generated.
Multiplayer: Star citizen will have support for guilds etc, elite is more based on flying in a small group (not fully in yet) Elite can get lonely due to the vast galaxy.
Both games plan to have a persistent setting that will be affected by player actions. Star citizen will also have a single player mission based campaign, Elite will have an ongoing storyline that covers the whole galaxy, players will play a small part in how the story unfolds rather than being the protagonist.
I prefer elite from what I have seen and played so far, but that's just my opinion.
I only discovered this was due out today thanks to a comment on the Kerbal Space Program thread. What's it like on graphics? Their website just says "DX 10 hardware GPU with 1GB video RAM" which mine does meet, but it's a few years old NVIDIA card (can't remember the model off the top of my head) and I'm wondering if it's likely to cope.

Seems really scalable on the graphics front, On a 750 GTX ti with a lowly i3 CPU I run in High graphics, swapped out for a 640 it runs fine too just tweaked the setting down a notch to get good FPS.motorizer said:

I prefer SC myself although I have only played a small part of both. Arena Commander on SC and the tutorial on ED.Well a big difference is that elite releases tomorrow, star citizen is a long way off. Though they will continue to add features to both games for some time to come.

To me ED feels current generation whereas SC feels next generation but I guess SC is still a good 1.5 years away.
Still, Im hoping to get into ED tonight once Im finished work and see whats what. Going to play about with the controls to get them right for me and head out into the unknown!

Am I the only one hiding it in a cupboard until Christmas day?
Might have a sneaky peak at the manual!
I've had it since the Alpha over a year ago but have resisted falling into it. Only played a few hours here and there to keep it fresh, just had an hour in 1.0 and it is hugely impressive and running like a dream. Don't have a lot of time lately but I won't be able to stay out till christmas! Might have a sneaky peak at the manual!
Dont forget there is no monthly charge to the game! The download extra expansion will only happen on big updates and wont be that much! These updates will be like landing on planets etc!
I am loving the game at the moment, there was a big shift in the commodities set up and will take a while for the market to settle! Forum chat thinks the npc where flooding the market to quickly not giving us a chance to make a profit! I am using a few website to work out where the money is and is taking a while to update manually! I am still making good money and 1mill in credits and my cobra is worth 1.7mil! I dont want the Lakon Type 6 too much of tanker!
