It's going to take a while to get used to zero throttle being in the middle of the control on my joystick, I've not managed a stationary liftoff yet.
One of the control settings allows you to change the throttle from forward/reverse to forward only and then assign a button to toggle forward/reverse.It was one of the first things I changed!

Just done the Launch tutorial, and having completed the preflight checklist at the point where the ship starts to move I get a message "use not bound to lift off". ANy ideas what that means?

Game doesn't know what key you've got assigned to vertical thrusters I reckon. What controller are you using? It's going to take a while to get used to zero throttle being in the middle of the control on my joystick, I've not managed a stationary liftoff yet.

There's a difference between heat generation and heat emissions. The 30-40 will be your heat generation, this damages your ship above 100% ish. Heat emissions are what make you detectable to other ships, they are represented by a wiggly line/graph on the right side of your cockpit. Silent running closes your heat vents so your emissions are reduced but your heat generation should increase. mep said:

That's the one. I've decided I might have to put some time into actually reading *TF*Manual.
Slow(ish) progress for me, I'm slugging it out in a Hauler, saving hard for a Cobra. I'm half way there now (155,000 Cr in the bank) and the Hauler has been upgraded to carry 22T so another day or so and I should be there. I have found quite a nice little run so the cash is coming in (gradually!)

Played the tutorials, started a proper game, and fallen at the first hurdle.
I decided to make an intra system hop to another station in the same system, went out far enough to lose the mass lock, landing gear and cargo scoop retracted, target station selected, engage frameshift...and I top out at 30km/s, whcih is 38 days to the station! WTF have I done wrong?
You need to throttle up. 30km/s is the idle speed when FSD is engaged.I decided to make an intra system hop to another station in the same system, went out far enough to lose the mass lock, landing gear and cargo scoop retracted, target station selected, engage frameshift...and I top out at 30km/s, whcih is 38 days to the station! OK, I have begin to dip my toe in and have done the training missions. In the actual start menu I have several options of ship \location \credits due to, I assume, the level I funded at. Does anyone know if all these options remain after I pick one? Can I start one of the options, then restart with another one later if I feel like it? If they all disappear I need to be careful which one I pick!

The start options should come back if you clear your save, that clears everything though and puts you right back to square one.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
