Where does the result from the kill warrant scanner appear? I used it a couple of times and the bar went to the finish, but no results were displayed.
That's a very good question and frankly I've not considered it, just used the scanner as an extra income generator, firing on locally wanted's and reaping the reward for any extra bounties.JustinF said:
Toxic I assume you know about rare commodities and trading? you've got 4/5 spots in classic elite space to buy them, Lave, Leesti (x2), orrere, diso and a token joke at zaonce.
Nope! Care to fill me in? Would be much appreciated! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RitrGeA_1j...
I flew out to Rigel in the witches head nebula over the holidays, about a 2000 light year round trip.
It's the little blue and red one
Parked up for the night in the rings of this giant gobstopper.
Saw this star with rings in the 69 lambda eridani system, it was one of 8 stars orbiting a giant white star
Rigel viewed from it's little brother, it is massive.
Nebula
Brown dwarf with rings, forget where this was now.....
Visited the black hole at Mintaka on the way back, screenshots don't do the freaky light bending effects justice, you need to see it in motion.

Thanks for the k-warrant extra info re contacts.
As for rares, try the rares tab here for where to buy them. they increase in value the further away from point of origin you go, this increase starts to fall off at about 160 LY. I've been filling up around Lave then flying over to Fujin, 39 Tauri and Witchhaul to get some for the return leg.
You have a limited allocation of rares per station, it'll spawn a few then a second batch a while later, I'm not sure on the specifics. I've been visiting each station in the area on a loop until it shows a blank in the availability column.

Thanks for the Rares info, unfortunately it looks like only one system is accessible to me at my current jump range, it's about 20 jumps away.
Am I missing something obvious with pirate hunting? I took a contract to kill 2 pirates in Ross 142 (only 8000cr so assuming it should be relatively simple). After a bit of flitting around the system I found one bloke who seems to have no bounty on him, a collection of toxic waste canisters and ship debris, and when I dropped in to another undentified signal source I got a message offering me a bit more cash in exchange for killing 3 federal ships instead. Having decided to stick with the pirate hunting plan, I can't find any of them. Is there an easy way to search that I'm missing?

No Nav point or resource extraction in that system. Eventually found a group of NPC's who all came up as clean, but one of them started making threatening comments about my cargo so I figured he was at least planning piracy. Shot him but his mate did a runner at about 50% hull and then the mission showed up as failed so I guess they were the right targets. Think I need to get some gimbaled weapons as my hit rate was appalling
Really useful thread this and I must admit, after a shaky start I'm really enjoying this now! I'm currently in my 4th Cobra (more of that in a minute!) which is also in the Mercenary paint scheme (with the skulls!) and pretty kitted out with decent pulse lasers, cannons, FSD interdictor, Shields, ECM and FSD wake scanner but still retaining 40T of cargo space. A few lessons I've learned (mostly the hard way ) from my limited time so far:
- As others have said, don't boost inside the station. I've written off 2 Cobras this way by accident so have changed my keys around!
- Cannons on the Cobra are amazing for finishing off a ship once you've used the lasers to take the shields down.
- If you can shoot straight fixed mount lasers are so much better than gimballed lasers!
- Don't under-estimate the importance of a decent power distributor.
- I desperately need a HOTAS set up if I'm to do better at fighting.
I'm still Harmless though, but hopefully onwards and upwards from here!

Is it realistic to play this on a laptop? I only have laptops at home and in the man-cave and would like to be able to play at both. Would be bought for this purpose only.
I'd say yes if you have a joystick and decent Nvidia or ATI graphics and at least a 15 inch screen. My desktop PC is pretty much the minimum spec required (Intel Q6700 quad core processor and ATI 4870 graphics card)and it runs it ok at 1920x1080 with everything on medium. If you google the cpubenchmark and gpubenchmark websites you can look up what your CPU and graphics processors are benchmarked at and compare what they score to mine to give you an idea of how it will run on yours.
My CPU scores 3335 and my graphics card scores 1372.
My GeForce 9800GT only scores 727 on that tables and I'm running it windowed at 1600x900 with no problems. Despite some of the graphics looking stunning I don't think it's particularly hard on graphics cards. I'd have thought it would be fine on laptop with a reasonable graphics capability, and agree that you really do need a joystick.
