I've got 2 Pulse Lasers (Small) and 2 Multi-Cannons (Medium) on a Cobra. It's cheap and brilliant against anything up to and including an ASP. I've only failed miserably against Anacondas and Pythons but, unless part of an assassination mission, the bounty for those bigger ships isn't worth the time and probability of death.

I'd stripped down my free eagle to help fund the exploring I posted about earlier.
When I got back I thought I'd equip it for bounty hunting with the money I'd made.
With class A thrusters the thing is proper wick, in a boost turn it yaws faster than the other ships pitch.
Put 3 multicannons on and went hunting.
When I got into a fight I realised that not only did I not have enough to cover the insurance, I also had forgotten to fit any kind of shield generator curse

Luckily I got away with it, nothing ever hits me except occasionally other eagles. If it wasn't for the fact that eagles lack a bit in the power plant and top speed it would be unbeatable.
It turns quick enough to get away with boosting into and out of the station from odd angles hehe

Fit chaff and a shield cell and you will be able to take anaconda's with a bit of practice.

Toxic I assume you know about rare commodities and trading? you've got 4/5 spots in classic elite space to buy them, Lave, Leesti (x2), orrere, diso and a token joke at zaonce.

This is one I'm trying just now. I don't have an A4 FSD though so it takes a while. Many more jumps required...
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RitrGeA_1j...
That doc is spot on, I'm making a few hundred thousand per round trip. With a fuel scoop my costs are minimal and now I have a decent jump range, c.16Ly, it's not too painful either.

Might take a break and do some bounty hunting for a bit though.
In the second part of that run they have a system listed called George Pantazis. I can't find this on https://cmdr.club/routes or any of the other route planners I've found. Does anyone know what system to jump through to get there from 39 Tauri? Trying to work out if I can do it in a ship with about 18LY jump distance. Sadly I'm currently at work so I can't check in the galaxy map.

toxicnerve, how is bounty hunting working out for you? I bought a viper to do some after doing a load of rare trading in a hauler but have found it hard work finding targets. So far the best place for me to do it was at a nav beacon in an anarchy system as I can't seem to find any extraction sites.

There's a database error somewhere in the star list he's using, look for Michael Pantazis instead smile

In other news bought my Asp this morning, can't wait to get home to fly it.

Sorry to jump in when you asked toxic, I am currently BH'ing in my viper. The key as you say is anarchy systems. Stay at the nav point, you are more Likely to see the larger ships. Resource extraction points attract pirates in sidewinders and eagles so hence a smaller return. Bigger ships attract more bounty generally.

In general, I find bounty hunting reasonably profitable, but I am willing to take on asps, annies and pythons, so it's risk v reward. Generally I will do an hours worth then travel to get the bounties, I wount travel to empire for less than 70k for example. Have just done this and have another 70k saved between alliance and Feds. Bang for buck it's not the best, mining is better for less risk. However I see it as combat training and boosting the kill count.

Considering a load out change to an ammo based one, no missiles as they are too expensive to reload. Cannons I think

Oooops. Pimped up my starter Sidewinder and took a 14k cr mission to kill 3 pirates. The first one I killed dropped 3 containers of battle weapons so I picked them, unfortunately in the process of killing the third I winged another clean ship and so earned a 600cr bounty. I then noticed I also had a 22k cr fine! Would the fine be for hitting the clean ship, or because someone scanned me and noticed the stolen goods? Luckily the bounty on the pirates was a bit more than the fine so I'm not out of pocket but that's 22k I could have done with.

It will be the penalty from the battle weapons, you were probably scanned by the cops. I have had the same happen to me.

Fine will have been for the stolen loot, iirc its 600cr for shooting someone & 3000cr for murder. You get bigger fines for stolen loot, capitalism don't ya know.

Are the anacondas you see in the wild at random as difficult to kill as the elite ones in the kill missions? I tried the latter but failed quite horribly when he got the opening shot and took out almost all of my shields in one shot.

The profit from BH doesn't seem all that great if you are used to rare trading, but it's enough to keep cannons in ammo and then a little on top for some upgrades. It is more exciting that trading though so I will keep my viper for when I get bored in my hauler (soon to be type 6).

I've been using gimballed pulse lasers and gimballed m-cannons and they have been ok but not great. Trying to bring down an orca used over half my ammo. Wouldn't fancy it on anything bigger. Haven't used missiles but I imagine you may be in for a shock if you do change!

Yes they are, I killed a non-mission anaconda this morning, 85k ish bounty before scan, 108k after. Went down with ease even though it was a master, but was still a challenge, I had to use all my normal tactics.

Profits not as good but I mix up piracy, BHing, missions (reputation/rank & kill), stealing, exploring to keep things more interesting.

The difficulty of NPCs depends on their rank, which I think also factors in on their bounty somehow.

I use gimballed beam and gimballed MCs, I don't use my MCs while the target has shields up, I use lasers to strip shields then open up with just my MCs until they are reloading then use my lasers to keep the pressure on until I can re-apply my MCs. I start with 2/0/4pips but when I switch to MCs I go 4/0/2. This is just for conda's & bigger for smaller stuff I go 0/2/4, for sideys and eagles I don't usually use my MCs at all. Also for conda's remember to target power plant, as its percentage drops systems will shut down, when it hits 0% they will go big badda boom. Armor is irrelevant.

You need to keep your own shield up, npcs do target subsystem.

BTW im in a cobra, viper may differ.

Zaonce didn't seem bad, but I've not looked around to much. I think it was there I got my B4 FSD...

Like extraction, refinery, agriculture, etc.. In the galaxy map you can filter by economy type (i think) to show them.

I haven't played Elite in ages, due to other commitments, other games, poor performance on the OR during beta as I only have a 570.

So I thought I'd fire it up again last night. Changed the HUD colour to 'Green' (seriously, if you have a Rift, *do this*) and thought I'd give it a blast for an hour (started at 11:30pm). Wow, remembered how awesome it was. Performance is signficantly improved.

Thought I'd been in for about 1.5 - 2 hours tops, probably should go to bed now. Took the headset off...3:30am frown

All I could see when I closed my eyes were stars and a vague outline of an Eagle cockpit....

I'll aim for the power plant next time then, cheers. Agree with you about using ammo on smaller targets - the lasers rip through sidewinders and eagles just fine so no need.

Nice pics.

Can anyone confirm which way round the module power priority works? The manual is ambiguous and the two places I have looked so far (http://roguey.co.uk/elite-dangerous/help/power/ and http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/196757/w... say different :\

Bit of a noob question. I've only just started playing the game and have done the training exercises so decided to hit the proper game itself. The station that I've started on doesn't have a commodity market which I did find, is this possible or have I just missed it ? I'm at Trevithick dock according to the app on my phone

Cheers

Not all stations have a commodity market, a lot of the smaller outpost types don't.
