The best defense you have in a T6 is your Mass, anything smaller than you that interdicts you won't mass lock you, so throttle to zero to submit to interdiction, 10 sec FSD cooldown (rather than 40 for battling and loosing the mini game) and you're gone before they can line you up.
Had a guy the other day interdict me and all he got to say was 'Drop cargo?' before I was back to SC, it was pathetic smile

Only just realised that prohibited stuff can still be for sale in station. Eg I'm in one at the moment where Battle Weapons and Personal Weapons are prohibited but both are for sale in the commodities market. I assume the idea is to line up with the station exit and then go to silent running and try and drift out without being noticed?

Bit of a noob question. I've only just started playing the game and have done the training exercises so decided to hit the proper game itself. The station that I've started on doesn't have a commodity market which I did find, is this possible or have I just missed it ? I'm at Trevithick dock according to the app on my phone
If you look in the system map, clicking on a station will tell you what facilities it has in the info panel. Trevithick only has Repair, Refuel and Outfitting.

Excuse the Grandma and her hollow eggs approach to this post but I thought it might prove useful to anyone who comes along later and asks the questions

Ok rares and some info/research others have put in the effort, I trawled the forums just so you don't have to wink

Basics:-

Each rare spawns at just one station in the galaxy, it increases in value the further from the point of origin you transport it for sale.
Most are legal but there are exceptions such as Onion Head (a mild drug), illegal in Fed space legal elsewhere and some others, on a case by case basis the information is in the links that follow.

The sweet spot for profit made per Ton per lightyear travelled is around 150 LY, they continue to gain value beyond this but at an ever decreasing rate making further travel less profitable for time spent etc.

Profit per rare is similar regardless of purchase price, i.e. a rare costing 3000cr does not make 3 times the profit of a 1000cr rare, you'll make round about the same; however there is evidence that heavy trading in some rares is starting to have an effect on values (needs citations)

Intermediate:-

Each rare commodity has a maximum amount you can purchase in any one transaction (limit) and a limit on the number that will be available per 10 minutes (tick)

For example Diso Corn has a limit of 15t and a tick of 1-10t, so when you rock up at Shifnal Port in the Diso system you will initially see between 1t and 10t available, if you choose to hang around for 10 minutes or so another tick of 1t-10t will become available for sale, sometimes it's worth waiting for another tick or doing a quick local mission whilst it respawns, if you are close to the limit it might be time better spent moving on to your next spot.

Someone has kindly put together a google doc showing all the known rare locations, their respective limit's and tick's and also very importantly the distance from the jump in point to the collection point.

/argos mode 'Customer 2,999,876 to collection point A'

the awesome list of profit!

Advanced:-

The list is not yet complete, some data mining in the game's code has revealed the system name of all the rare's locations but not where the systems are nore more than their initial name code, leaving many to still be discovered as the map opens up.

Someone has come up with a slightly satanic pentagram of profit, 100ly between rare collection points, with a what to but and when to sell diagram keeping you circa 160ly from the point of origin when selling.

Efficient!

also this rather excellent 3D model for you to wrap your heads around!

Right that's enough from me I've got a new Asp to fly

(I'd pay for a downloadable Kiss My Asp bumper sticker)

Edit to add travel tips:-

Thanks for the link Berz https://cmdr.club/routes

Some great information there. That ring of 5 is what I used to save up for my Type 6 before I changed my mind and tried bounty hunting instead. This is the hauler I did it in (had to sell one or two rares early if not enough cargo space but with the amount of Cr being earned it wasn't a big deal):

I'm giving up on bounty hunting now and going back to rare trading using the ring of 8 produced by the same chap. Just have to fly all the bloody way back from anarchy to where my hauler is so I can sell it and buy my type 6...

More details on the route here: http://www.reddit.com/r/EliteTraders/comments/2q5n...wink

As I'm still "mostly harmless" I'm tempted to buy a little fighter as a Caterham track toy and fit it with a couple of beam lasers to go pirate hunting.

I had a look at the shipyard and apparently I already have an Eagle but the damn thing is on the other side of the galaxy now, and I don't want to leave my main ship there.
Eagle's weakness is the power plant, I reckon beam lasers would make it conk out even with a class A plant, unless you skimped on everything else. Or only put one on.

3 fixed multicannons on mine, and class A thrusters, I'm borderline on power at that, couldn't fit the top shield without stuff shutting down. but it outflies everything, just needs restocking with ammo every now and then.

Turns out I can't use more than 2 tonnes of fuel in one jump which means I'm limited to around 16 or 17LY max. jump distance. On the plus side it means I don't need to buy the A rating FSD because my current one is sufficient (at least until I buy more cargo space). On the down side plotting routes in game just got more awkward because the economical routes are about 20 jumps long but the fastest routes are too long in distance.

Striker was the squadron leader. He brought us in real low. But he couldn't handle it.....

Arse, I was out of bullets and had to let him go...

Gah, Just spend half an hour pissing about with a spreadsheet trying to work out my own version of one of those rares trading pentagrams, and failing dismally. I was sure it should be relatively simple to work out but appears to be more complex than I thought.

I think the loop is good if you have med/low cargo space you'll be hauling 4 different commodities at any one time so 40-60t maybe, I can fill 96t in the Asp clustering and shuttling.

Right I've got a dilemma, Oculus...
Shipping for a dk2 is a fortnight, so it's order now in time for my birthday, but...
CES 2015 kicks off in Vegas on Tuesday and if there's going to be a first half of year release on CV1 it'll be clearer by then...
wait don't wait? so close to pulling the trigger!

Personally I'd wait and see what launch date is, in fact that's exactly what I'm doing although a mate of mine has ordered DK2 and he may make me jealous!

Mentioned this a few times but no one seems that bothered. I think everyone is just scrambling to make cash !! Maybe when the game matures a bit ?

Thought I'd start a Wiki to see if I can get that underway.

Also - being really dumb here but how can I activate my Kickstarter backer options? I have a number of potential starter options (Founders world / pirate / explorer etc) but can't see how / where to choose them?

Any ideas?

Cheers

Phil

Edit: Ignore me. I vaguely recalled messing around with the game with some friends after a Christmas part and suddenly realised I probably chose an option then, Clearing my save has given me what I wanted!

bks, just jumped 150ly across the galaxy with a cargo of 16 rares, left my PC for a couple of minutes to grab a drink, leaving the ship fuel scooping, and came back to find it almost destroyed with some arshole shooting at me.

15k for the insurance but that cargo was worth a bloody fortune. My own fault for getting cocky really frown
