I agree with you, the good ones offer excellent value. If it's a good game, I'll pay full price on day one and will not regret it. However, the fact remains that after a very short period of time, games are heavily discounted to make them sell.

I think part of it is that publishers need to stop selling Spiderman The Movie Game 3 as a £40 just because GTA will sell out at that price.
I agree with you also, some games are utter tripe and do not represent good vale, I.e Lost the game an be completed 100% in four hours! £10 per hour for quite poor entertainment is not for me. Glad I rented it, bargain at £3.50 haha.

If only the show lasted as long hehe

I remember the Matrix game for the PS2 was similar, awesome few hours though.

Having said that, I got 164 hours from Borderlands, 99 hours from Borderlands 2, 23 hours from Crysis 2 (poor), 102 hours from Deus Ex: Human Revolution (inc. the Missing Link DLC), 182 from Fallout: New Vegas, 245 hours from Skyrim, and 53 hours (so far) from Far Cry 3.

I tend to get pretty good value for money out of my games.

It's for the above reasons that I haven't bought a game for a couple of years - I got Lovefilm (UK) then Gamefly(US) accounts and rent games these days for the 360.

It didn't hinder that I only had an i5 and no graphics card in my PC - I couldn't play A, let alone AA or AAA titles anyway. But then I bought a 7950. And it came with FarCry3. And a couple of other games. And then there was the THQ Bundle.

And now the Steam Winter sale.

I've cancelled my Gamefly account

I've made some decent progress over the last couple of days and still loving it, although the outpost missions are getting a bit tedious. Up to now I've been using stealth methods to take them so I might change tact and go in all guns blazing!

I've started to move East. I think I've taken about 10 outposts and about 8 radio towers. Got most of the weapons I want fully customised too.

Yeah, changing tactics makes it more fun.

I vary between rambo mode (bow, knife), transporter mode (a car, normally equipped with a bomb), Terminator mode (LMG and that grenade gun) and the specialist (C4 laid everywhere) hehe Fun if a little sad.

c4 strategy is far easier to implement on the 2nd island though considering your freedom of movement due to your disguise.

thumbup For your 'transporter' mode do you just place C4 on the car, drive at the base, then jump out and blow it up as it rolls into the base?

Nope, it just means the next three missions have to be done in a row with no re arming or ability to go off in between.

can you go back to the manual save at a later point.

im on ps3 and is it just me or is there no way to have more than one manual save file per game. i.e. i couldnt have created a save game just before going to 2nd island, and then gone to the 2nd island and created another manual save.

I am having fun doing stealth outpost clearing wth a flame thrower. Quite amusing setting a pirates shorts on fire and just dissapearing into the shrubbry whilst he dances the electric boogaloo. Then when all his buddies are standing around going "oh noes" you set fire to their shorts as well.

The flame thrower is also the best hunting weapon - big game goes down easy after a quick blast of fire.

Yep. when you finish the story you go back to the island ( not story related ) and its exactly the same with all your side stuff that you havent done available.

Im working through the top island as i prefer it.

yeah, right through the main gate, nothing subtle at all. Sometimes they shoot it and i it blows up too early. Any bases that have some sort of hill or ideally a mountain i tend to come in from above, kamikaze style.

All this kamikaze stuff loses you ~1000exp though. I always clear them without detection, but i do have a bit of gaming OCD.

There is no shortage of EXP in the game, you'll have all the tattoo upgrades long before the end of the game, and EXP becomes meaningless. Play how you want, because it makes no real difference anyway.

Just finished the game. Two missions in particular stand out, both because they made excellent use of music to set the scene and spur you on as you went. Once you've finished the game, you will know which two I mean.

The story was a bit daft and nonsensical, though I did like the German guy.
