Out of interest, what other games/sims have you tried?
Pretty much everything on PS and xbox. Not so much on pcs recently (Geoff Crammond!) Most hours on Gran Turismo series as has a more realistic feel than say Forza (arcade crap for kids).PCars feels most realistic with the control inputs and the resulting weight transfer of the cars on track. Having driven/raced most of the UK tracks in a variety of cars in the real world, it's the best feeling racing game I've ever played.
Have you raced for real much or are you just comparing games with other games?

I managed to pick up a Thurstmaster T150 this morning from Argos after their massive mis price mistake (got for £45). Can anyone point me in the direction of a good beginners guide to getting the settings sorted as I understand there is a lot to play around with?

Surely being able to go from lock to lock as quickly as you can flick a toggle on a control pad is completely unrealistic?
Exactly! Try that in a real racing car and the marshals will be collecting you from the scenery. Also dry grass has plenty of grip, even if you brake with one wheel off. Wet grass is entirely different obviously.
I suspect that those criticising this game have zero track or racing experience in real life
Whilst it's still a game, it's much closer to the sim end and far superior to all the other games I've spent many, many hours on. The weight transfer and tyre dynamics are unparalleled. Sounds good too!
Dry grass has nowhere the same amount of grip as tarmac, wet grass even less so.
While I have no racing experience above karts, I have spent plenty of time on track & in powerful cars and am still criticizing the game.
Like I've said before, the handling model of GPL is way ahead of the physics engine for pCars, and games like iRacing & rFactor 2 leave pCars for dead. pCars is more need for speed than iRacing so I feel the sim tag is undeserved.

Weight transfer is not that difficult to simulate, the tyre model is the most important aspect to ensure realistic feel.
I'm not a professional racing driver, but I do have a good understanding of vehicle dynamics.

It's really not, GPL had a rudimentary physics model and not much of a tire model, understandable given how long ago it was and what they had to work with and what their users had to work with. Pcars, Iracing (same person behind GPL), rfactor 2 and AC all have very advanced physics engines and tyre models, all very good in their own way and very much all aimed at realism, the only discernible difference is how they each communicate it all back to you through a wheel.Pcars has probably the most advanced FFB system out of all of them in the parameters you can adjust according to what you want to feel, AC uses predetermined effects for things (although I believe they are going to change this) and rfactor 2 has the best FFB out the box, but again this all depends on how much you want to look in to it and set it up.
You also need to set up the cars a little to get the best out of them, most are set neutral and understeery so people don't crash instantly and give up.
Just try them all.

If you don't like FFB out of the box, try these bad boys.

Different FFB profiles configured for you. I'm using them and I think Project CARs is brilliant and most definitely a SIM, but I'm aware it's my opinion that not everyone will share.

Just updating the game on Steam for the Renault car pack and it says that they have added the hard top radical for free. Do you have to download this anywhere or is just patched into the game?
