You would have hoped all devs would have taken a lesson in communication after the Drive Club fracas
I was thinking something similar, after the drive club drama if this isn't perfect on release its going to be panned in the reviews.

Honestly, I'd rather get the option to have it unfinished on console and patch when they're out. This is the only game I've thought this about as I usually detest the release of unfinished games.
The trouble with them releasing it unfinished is the player base will suffer, people will soon get fed up start to hate/get frustrated with it and move on to something else.

I'd rather it came out as right as they can get it, than broken...look at BF4 on launch!

Too add:
It'll be nice if we get some free DLC as per the Driveclub fiasco....will have to wait and see.
As above, Race Pro was similar. Absolutely full of bugs, by the time they were all (I use that loosely) fixed, everyone had got fed up with it.

Anybody who has Project CARs should check out the last livery on BMW Z4 GT3, it's called David Drive Systems. There is a rather familiar logo on it smile

Can't post a pic right now as I'm at work, maybe later.

This game will be the making of Slightly Mad but they have to get it right...they'd be mad to release it before it's ready. Sure people are annoyed, they knew they would be, but nowhere near as many as if it was released buggy and broken. Personally I love it, and I hope everybody else does too.

I highly recommend a good rig to get the best out of it, but I play with my logitech joypad and it's enjoyable too, I'm just spoiled since I got my G27.

I think to keep interest up they should put out a demo with a couple of tracks and cars. It's the game I bought an xbox one for. I have a black box on the verge of being punted as there is nothing keeping me amused.

...and still poor steering wheel support.

I hope they are often asking Sony when they are going to sort that little mess out.

Still, the Division is apparently in alpha testing and by all accounts is looking fairly good, we might just see it this year.

The steering wheel support issue is nothing that SMS or any developer has any influence or control over. If project CaRS becomes as big as GT then maybe, but with logitech withdrawing from gaming peripherals G27/25 support is a no hoper I'm afraid.

But developers can put pressure on Sony to at least have a viable solution to Logitech pulling out.

The DFGT I paid £50 worked well.

With the Thrustmaster ones the T80 is a bit rubbish all round, especially the FFB and its £80.
The T100 doesn't have a PS button, so you need to keep a controller at hand as well, still not that great either.
That leaves the T300, which costs almost as much as a PS4 on the first place.

Its a stupid situation and loosing games developers money, because I and others won't buy until there is a way forwards. Be it a new, sensibly priced wheel that isn't st or a £20 box of tricks that makes the older logitechs work fine, from what I have seen 3rd party implementations sort of work, if the chinese can get it almost working one would presume Sony & games developers between them could actually get it working quite well.

SMS have gone out on their own so they don't have the clout of having a giant like EA behind them to put pressure on a company like Sony and I doubt EA would care anyway.

Polyphony Digital is owned by Sony so no chance of pressure coming from there I'm afraid.

It's not so much the delayed release, it's the fact that it now seems every month it's put back a month - despite the release date having been set.

The release date was only changed to find a more suitable release window remember... Poor communication with the customers doesn't really help.

It's been changed twice - does the window keep moving?

The first release date was based on old gen consoles, so switching to PS4/XB1 put things back significantly, also the FSA thing got in the way too. The second release date clashed with GTAV, and as a new IP it was important to get good coverage at release, no way could it be expected to compete for headlines with a huge franchise like that. Release is make or break time for games, opening week sales account for a significant proportion of total sales for all games. The latest delay must be out of SMS control, this is a multi platform release and all versions have to pass rigorous tests and QA processes to go Gold. The last thing they want to do is ps off pre-order customers and people who have been waiting patiently for the game to release but there is no way around some of this stuff.

SMS will give us all a stunning racing game as soon as it can, it's not much longer now I hope. I do understand why people are frustrated, the games industry big players have taken advantage of gamers in the past and led to this atmosphere of mistrust. SMS are doing the best they can, they are not a big player remember they have Bandai Namco doing the marketing but other than that they're on their own. They are trying to break the cycle and do right by gamers and fans. Unfortunately it's not going as smoothly as they would have liked, clearly!

Every time it has been delayed and you've posted, I've thought it was admirable that a company took enough pride in the finished product not to rush it on to the shelves like all of your crowd-funded counterparts. Every reason you've offered for the delays has been completely understandable too. The latest delay, however, is starting to make you guys look a bit amateur in my opinion. I really do admire the work you guys have done and the fact you bother to come on to a thread on a random forum and talk to gamers; that's a rarity these days. I just hope everything goes smoothly from herein!

Being cynical but could it be lack of pre-orders?

Reminds of the GT5 fiasco and worryingly that was a poor game.

Counterbalances me cancelling my pre-order. Amazon's e-mail saying they don't have an estimated date was what persuaded me; originally my pre-order in early Feb was to be delivered next week.

I don't work for SMS, I'm just one of the (very) many community members involved, being involved has given me/us a lot of insight into the world of game development. A fascinating experience for me as I had only ever played games that were finished ( Live for Speed is a bit of a grey area but one of my favourite games). I would highly recommend people get involved if they have any interest if the opportunity comes up again.

So release for the old consoles +PC (or just PC) and then release on next gen consoles afterwards

Agreed, so why did they pick a date that clashed ?
Or got anywhere near it ?

The fact that the game hasn't been released on any platform make these things look like excuses I'm afraid, they could have released in January, or February, but clearly, the game wasn't and still isn't ready.

It would seem they aren't the only ones that are struggling to keep to deadlines, but thats not a good reason.

It just doesn't work like that, sounds easy I know but it isn't.

GTA was announced after Project CARS

No it's not 100% ready, and SMS wants to release a game that just works on Day1. Gamers have been tortured with broken release day games for years, I don't know why it's not a good reason to get it right! The amount of work involved is extraordinary and is easily underestimated. My eyes have been truly opened being involved. Everything that seems like it should be easy, never is.
