Well I think it's fair to say that I'm addicted.

I love the attention to detail although there are a few things that let it down for me.

First off, it's pretty obvious the designers have never been to the uk. It's all very continental in layout and look... Especially motorways and junctions. The landscape rarely resembles anything like the uk, although one stretch on the a14 towards Felixstowe looked spot on!

It's a shame the road network isn't a bit more true to life. Still, some of the scenery is lovely to look at.

Also it annoys me that there is no way to look left and right at junctions. You can on the cab view using the mouse with the right button held down but it doesn't self centre afterwards and by the time you've lined it up manually, another car has come along. I've just taken to crawling out and going for it. The other cars seem to stop and flash at you haha.

Lastly, I don't know whether its s bug or just my pc but quite often when doing long stretches on the motorway, the accelerate and brake buttons will become unresponsive. So you see a traffic jam, hit the brakes but the truck just ploughed on into the back of it at full pelt... Bit annoying really. Does the same with the cruise control. When it's on for a while, it refuses to turn off... Carnage ensues.

Btw, the guy with the mirror issue, f2 toggles them on the screen.

Also, is there anyway to freefly around the truck? I wanted to admire some scenery up near Edinburgh but couldn't find a view outside the truck I could manually adjust frown

I've been playing this for a while.

Some of the game mods are good. http://ets2-mods.com/euro-truck-simulator2-mods

I currently have 12 Garages across Europe with 3 Trucks/Drivers in each. Although i'm disappointed i haven't seen any of them out on the road.
Can someone hold my hand through the "Modding" process please?

Download the mod file you want. Be wary though, every site that seems to be attached tpo ETS2 (to me) seems to have a risk of viruses.

Once you've got the mod it will generally come as a SCS file. Dump that into the following folder:

My Documents\Euro truck Simulator 2\Mod

And away you go.

If it's a truck then usually it will replace a model within the dealership, so you'll go to say Scania and there will be all the normal trucks with the modded one in between. I'm not sure what happens though if you are already driving the truck you insert the mod for, hopefully it just replaces it but I haven't got that far yet.

I've only put one mod in so far, speed limiter removal.

Has anyone updated to the latest version of s/w yet? I donwloaded 1.1.1 originally but have just upgraded to 1.3.1. The main difference I can see is that my Vaillant is now a Volvo and I have a nice FH16 badge on the dash (everyone say 'ohhhh'). The only other annoying thing now if you so much as tap a kerb you get damage, even driving into a yard slightly too fast resulted in some damage!

Cheers Matty, it was the Virus risk that was holding me back tbh, might leave it for now.
I downloaded the game on steam in the end, only took an hour and a half Friday eve...I think mine is that latest version as I got damage by going up the ramp from the eurostar too fast last night.

So pretty realistic then biggrin

Digby, I have to say that the screen shoot of the rolled truck is pretty photo realistic. You playing with some super computer. On my iMac it looks good but still cartoony. Must add I'm playing 1 not Euro Truck 2.

Don't take this as gospel, but it's what has worked for me.
You'll need to download the SCS Extractor from the Main ETS2 site. Downloads are usually zipped and extract as SCS files. once they're in the Mod file thye will than appear in the game. With V1.3.1. You need to go into 'Edit' on the profile screen and tick the mods you're using on the right hand side of the screen. Don't go too mad with the mods, add them one at a time as some won't work and crash the game. Makes it easier to find and remove them without losing everything.
I've downloaded mods from a couple of sites, Just Google ETS2 mods.

I downloaded the demo but it put me off buying the game. The road network is just a load of identikit bits glued together bearing no resemblance to the real thing and every city is just a couple of roads with your destination always right on the edge of the city. I was looking forward to having to navigate down backstreets but there really is no urban aspect to the game and I got bored before the demo ended.

I think the 'unresponsiveness' you talk about is the fatigue setting - you can turn it off in the settings menu.

Hopefully I have understood what you mean by the looking around, if you press the number "1" key on your keyboard this will take you into the cab, and will also center the camera, so you can look left, look right then press 1 and it will center. Regarding free looking, if you press 2 it will give you a view outside the truck, which I think would be best for looking at scenery.

It doesn't put me off the game. It doesn't claim to be a Europe tourer and don't think it's trying to be either. The road network is accurate to a point. You can follow roads like the real ones and take diversions and follow real life routes etc.

Just would be nice if it was more accurate and true to life.

If by right button you mean right click, then simply map the left click to ve your normal driving view: look around with right click then left click to get instantly back to normal view.

Using the outside camera you can look around just like you do in the truck, although the scenery has never bothered me that much.

Took a screenshot of the mayhem that ensued around Dover when I couldn't get on the ferry, as not enough cash. Went all GTA on the carpark and approach roads biggrin

BTW I can't actually find where the screenshot is saved on my computer or is it saved in the game somewhere?

There is a 'screenshots' folder in the ETS2 file.

Wow, the graphics looks pretty good in the screenshot. The car/van models also feels like UK. Shame about the scenery but I am sure this can be addressed with a "UK" version biggrin

I am a sim fan but currently working my way through flight sims which is taking a fair while. Might be interested in this one for a change if it's realistic. If I am not mistaken I tried a demo out of a truck driving sum 2/3 years ago and that was a bit pants...

I've got three drivers working for em now, all in basic DAF's with a single uprated engine. I think I will save up for a new trcuk and give my current one to a new driver (I have one spare slot).
However, tonight it's Berlin to Verona with a load of cyanide - 1,100km!

Nothing monster PC wise but I do have two 448 core 560Ti GPU's in SLI.I was messing about with using both to power it all, or one dedicated to FSAA (gets rid of jagged edges) and enabling FXAA and x8 CSAA etc in the Nvidia options. The rest of all the game options are on the max the game allows at a 1920x1080 res.It does slow down if I turn the scaling up to 200 or more though!

Have to say some of the bushes etc let it down a bit mind you.

Click for bigger pic..

I also like the fact people often flash you if you are driving along with your high beam on hehe

I was looking forward to playing it tonight and doing a few loads before I do a longer one later this week. The stupid postman said it has not arrived today - possibly tomorrow. The wait is killing me!

I can recommend starting off in Europe instead of the UK btw. It's more varied and interesting, plus you get used to driving on the wrong side.
