Cant believe Ive read the entire thread!

Ive not had a PC for years now , ipad does all I need and PS4 for games.

but... Ive now been on scan looking at gaming(laptop) PC's and wondering i I can justify getting one to play this. (And Silent Hunter 3 submarine sim if I can get that going on Win 10). I don't have room for a desktop.

If I was that daft and bought a laptop (and wired controller of some sort, unless an old ps3 controller can be made to work with it), what version of the game would I need to get for the best graphics and smoothness possible?

Laptop I loooked at was ASUS ROG STRIX 15" FHD 120Hz i5 GTX 1660 Ti Gaming Laptop, is that overkill?

Thanks

It's pretty low requirements for the recommended settings, I'd always push as much as your budget will allow as they are ramping up the detail with each DLC however this is countered by the switch to DX11 for better performance.

You can get PS3 or PS4 controllers to work with a PC/Laptop - just search for DS3 (or 4 depending on the controller), might need to buy a bluetooth receiver as I did. Failing that you can just use your charge cable and keep it wired and use the program matching your controller smile

And as to which version, EST or American Truck Simulator both look good. Steam automatically keeps it up to date. If you wait for a sale you can get them 50% off minimum usually
promods add a lot of scenery for free but can be fiddly to install

It is strangely addictive, I tend to play it as intended, then slowly move into full time attack mode and roll the truck and start the cycle over again.

Thanks Tommo and Kowalski.

So If I bought the disc version off amazon or somewhere it would likely be very out of date graphics wise?

Can you even get a disc version of 2? It will be very out of date & if it doesnt include a Steam key you can update from the website to some extent(Steam is easier though)

Cheers kowalski.

Having never used Steam, it's not a subscription service is it? (can't check at the moment for "certain" reasons).

Also what spec PC is "recommended"? GPU, Graphics mainly.

Steam client is free. It is a software store with additional functionality. I use it for maintaining my games library, modding games (via steam workshop), for chat with friends and for finding new games especially during sales - Christmas, Lunar new year, Valentines, Spring, Easter, Summer, School holidays, Autumn, Haloween, Black Friday and back around for Christmas - hmm there are quite a few sales scratchchin might be why I have so many games in my library.
The Steam page on each game will show minimum and recommended specs.

15 quid a game right now on Steam but Google shopping tab will see you get it for under a fiver eg at CDkeys.com. The reseller sites give you a Steam key that is activated on the Steam program. Just watch the Steam key isnt region locked

I've been playing the public beta, it's looking so much better none of that yellowness that was prominent with the old system
