You don't have to pay anything, if you're patient and earn the credits. So for me it's an entirely free game.
The business model is relying on stupid people and/or impatient people who are happy to spend money to skip the slower cars or the repair times.
The only thing wrong with it really is the AI. It's awful. It's Gran Turismo 1 awful. They just barge, they 'cheat' (in so much as they stay on the track even if you ram them pretty much), and you get slowed during contact but they don't. And there is no way to overtake without hitting them a lot of the time as they blindly turn in or exit corners.

I have about 5 cars now, including a MP4-12c and loving it! Using the standard tilt controls with thumbs for break and seems to work well.
With more than 2-3 cars you don't really need to spend any money anyway as you can just flip to another car while one is being fixed or upgraded. I think they've actually made it too generous tbh
Ooohhh my Dodge SRT8 has just been delivered.......

I've teaked the controls so that my right thumb is the throttle and my left thumb is the brake, then tilt control for steering, I have also toned down the brake assist to low, so I can out brake people (more often than not myself too ) in to corners. I did turn the steering assistance off, but found that was when the other cars started ramming me more, although I'm not sure if that was a coincidence.
My understanding is that the AI cars are actually other players, but time shifted, it would be interesting to see how that works!
Price-wise it is the best free game I have played, I'm on my second car, my advice would be to buy a car in the bottom category, race it, but don't upgrade it, then buy a car in the next category as soon as you can, that way while one is being serviced you can race the other without being tied to the same tracks/races.

Agree about the AI. They just turn in on you and the like. Really irritating. Make a decent attempt at a pass and slam. The business model is relying on stupid people and/or impatient people who are happy to spend money to skip the slower cars or the repair times.

Love this game, got a few cars now including an MP4, R8 V10, Porsche 918 RSR and. Ford GT FIA. Waitin to get enough cash for the Zonda F next. Not spent anything yet and unlikely to. I just wait for repairs.
I find gameplay is pretty good, the further you get the more challenging it gets and here's loads of variety.
I am playing on an Ipad retina, and graphics are awesome.
Anyone who wants to add me it's Sulli_69
