The fact that enemies don't level with you is the best bit imo.
Never understood the point in enemies leveling up as it completely undermines the feeling of progress, of getting stronger as it were.
Having to flee when you've bitten off more than you can chew is good.
Yep, that was the worst bit about Skyrim. I really enjoy feeling that a new sword or whatever is really going to make a difference, yet I don't feel trapped or confined, plenty to do. The combat isn't great but is a step up from Skyrim IMHO, especially since Skyrim got easier as you went along.Never understood the point in enemies leveling up as it completely undermines the feeling of progress, of getting stronger as it were.

I do think Skyrim was better in some ways and perhaps overall, despite what I have said above. I preferred the crafting/alchemy and that the world seemed to 'work' better. If you wanted you could become a trader or a hunter or a miner....on a very basic level but it could be done. On one play through I restricted myself to wearing armour I'd forged, using weapons I'd made, drinking potions I'd mixed etc etc. It was very rewarding, is not possible in Witcher 3 and made Skrim the better, more immersive RPG, if not the better game.
Oh, and an SSD makes loading times about 5 seconds!
So I've now played this fairly solidly for the past week. I've tried not to add anything specific to the story so there aren't any spoilers.
My overall impressions (now that i'm level 14) are as follows:
1. I love how they've incorporated different levelled enemies around the map and it's up to you to decide to fight/flight. Sometimes, you can surprise yourself with killing a much stronger foe. Other times, it's plain suicide!
2. The map is huge, however, I find myself frustrated with the filtering. i.e. I want to find a Journeyman blacksmith, and I can't for the life of me remember where the guy is, I want an easier way of just finding specifics, as opposed to the current set-up of having to manually cross everything else off - which, by the way, takes a lot longer than I think it should. May be i'm being too picky though.
3. I absolutely love how it sometimes takes a bit of brain power to work out a puzzle. They don't simply lay it out in the palm of your hand. Real sense of accomplishment when you work out something you needed to cause an effect that lets you progress.
4. It's still a bit buggy, normally it's graphical-based issues that hamper the play somewhat. Also, sometimes it will bug out (i.e. it won't let me speak to a certain person till I reset the game). Hopefully patches will come along in due course to rectify this.
5. Potions/Decotions/Bombs/Signs - It'll be obvious to anyone who's played this but to newcomer's, I can't stress the importance that learning as many of these as possible and how adding to your inventory aids in the bigger battles. It really makes the difference between surviving the battle and waiting for the bloody loading screen after you die!
6. Manually saving the game (as stated previously) is a must and a habit you need to get into. It seems very sparse in auto-saving. Causing serious frustration when you have to go and re-do a tonne of work.
7. Some items of weaponry and armour are upgradable as you go through the game - in various guises (Standard, Enhanced, Superior, Master-Crafted) - you need the previous version of whatever you have to upgrade - So, for instance, you need the Enhanced version of your silver sword, plus other parts, to upgrade to the Superior silver sword. So keep these items and try to not be tempted to get rid, otherwise you have to start from the lowest version again.
8. The XP seems to be very weirdly accounted for as well - with some missions that I put a fair amount of work into - giving very little XP - whereas, a more simple mission, throws XP at you like it's going out of fashion. Still don't really understand the concept there but hey-ho.
So, those are my views so far, without giving anything spoiler-ish away. It's a great time-waster and i'm really happy with it so far. This is my first Witcher - Best RPG I've played since Skyrim.

Really?
I spent 10 mins on bb and got nowhere.
BloodBorne was my first venture into that type of game (Dark Souls, Demon Souls, Dark Souls 2). It looked amazing and whilst initially murderously hard, I persisted and was rewarded with a fantastic gaming experience. I bought, played short period and traded in Far Cry 4, Dragon Quest Inquisition, Dying Light and numerous other games that didn't really bite me at all. I spent 10 mins on bb and got nowhere.
Alien Isolation, GTA 5 & BloodBorne are the three reasons to get a PS4. If skyrim or a worth equivalent was on the PS4 that would be all boxes ticked (I've held off Witcher 3 as I wanted to see if it really was worth me splashing out again or if I would have it traded in a week later due to it not really grabbing my attention.
Conclusion, go back to BloodBorne, it's fantastic.
SRW :-)
I'm still new to this game, only level 6.
But I've noticed that you cannot repair the hatchet, is it possible to repair them?
At the moment they seem to be the most effective steel weapon (49-64), whilst the long swords are a bit crappy; even the one from the evil bugger in the cave, when you're walking around with sugar tits.

Sword have better reach I believe but the advantage of swords are that they can put oil on and that give a huge advantage and a part of the game! Use the signs also, I find the mind and fire great combo, but find a style that suits you! I know a person who like shield sign alot, never used it myself. But I've noticed that you cannot repair the hatchet, is it possible to repair them?

I believe you can break a sword beyond repair, as you fight your sword will blunt so much a piece of butter will give more damage! So you can repair your self as you walk with a kit (look for the hammer symbol and a number that how much your damage is being reduced)!
A bit further into this now and made it into some of the cities. Really enjoying the content of the main quest and some of the side quests. Definitely a much greater variety of things to do and not the same sort of repetition of Skyrim where the dungeons started to get very generic after a while.
Level 14 and with some good gear and finally defeated Jenny of the Woods. Had a go at her when I was level 10 and got mauled in minutes even though I was using oils, bombs and the trap. The enhanced bombs are making a heck of a difference now that I have made a few.

The Blacksmith will not repair it.
My Witcher is a bit of a player, seems you can sleep around a bit in the game too; not just with the hookers. The mages seem to be gagging for a bit of the White Wolf.
Rocking level 20 at the moment, 100 hours in (but a good 30-40 of those were with the first character - chose to restart on hardest when I was used to the game).
Skellige is just epic. Never felt so immersed in a landscape. The combat has won me over so much that I'd call this isnow certainly up there with the best single player games I've ever played.

I'm now a level 17 badass, and i'm still just running around doing the side missions rather than the main ones; Although i have been to Skillage (that place you get to by boat) and felt unprepared.
They are proper hard barstards there.
Spent a bit of time on Skellige around level 15. I was thinking that despite it being a more difficult area I was handling it well, then slipped down a slope and was killed by some kind of ice giant that I was completely unprepared for...They are proper hard barstards there.
I'm loving the game, but having a small issue with the sheer number of side quests meaning I'm quite over-levelled for the main story - even quests a few above your level are usually do-able, so when you end up a couple of levels too high the missions can become a little too simple. This is on the highest difficulty too.

I'd be careful with that, can come back to bite you in the end.The way i see it, she left me with out saying why, and i had to go looking for her.
I bet she shoved it around a bit when she out and about, especially going from that first scene when she's in skimpy black underwear. So it's only fair that Geralt gets a bit of action. All the women are a bit unstable though.
I think i may play this though as an ahole, killing NPC that are actually crucial to making future decisions. And then go through it again, but thinking about the possible outcomes.

Won't spoil too much, but they have factored in your choices in women and what you might commit to.The way i see it, she left me with out saying why, and i had to go looking for her.

I think i can see where this is going.
I told the redhead that i loved her, so i could bang her in the light house. Now she is going back to the homelands up north to wait. I guessed something like this would happen
