Kerbal Space Program
Discussion
Thanks, all.
I think I will stick with an i5, means more money for RAM. May go with 1.6 myself. I used to be like that with flight sims. Waiting for mods to catch up before updating.
It must be really tricky to dock in KSP assuming you are flying with keyboard. A slight key press and you're all over the place, lol.
The best i've managed in the demo was a flight to the Mun, placing the ship in an 8000m circular orbit for a few laps, then back safely to Kerbin.
I could never get my joystick to work in the demo (msffb2). Is this still the case in the latest versions?

That's where I'm stuck on this game - I used to play it loads just sending probes to the other planets, etc. but I always used to use MechJeb to help. I wouldn't use it for 'launch into this orbit', but I would set it to 60 degrees and press 'go' at the point in the launch where I would want to turn. Now I'm playing in career mode for the challenge and have difficulty even getting to orbit as I find using the keys means I overturn and that either messes up the path or makes the whole craft tumble to a fiery death!
It's a shame as I'm looking at the custom controllers people are making to control action groups via the Raspberry pi and I want a go at making one, but I need to get better at the game first!
I reckon a joystick is worth it for aircraft, but no need for space craft IMO.
With docking, the point where I suddenly got it was I started rotating the ship so the camera view matched the control directions, then it's just a case of giving it a little left/right or up/down thrust to keep the prograde marker on the target marker. I think it's a bit like riding a bike, tricky to begin with but once it clicks you realise it's actually really easy.

watched some good youtube on basic rocket flights. Just learning the asparagus rocket arrangements as trying to rescue someone orbiting the sun which is a long way and Im burring too much fuel to a) leave Kerbin orbit b) to get the inclination matching with the to be rescued person c) to extend my orbit to cross with the to be rescued person to get close to them d) to have any fuel to get back.
fun fun fun.

Extend your apoapsis on the ascending/descending node with the other ships orbit first, the slower you're going when you burn the less dV you need to do a plane change. If you're really feeling clever you can use the Mun for a slingshot to save fuel but I usually cock up the timing when I try that. I tend to just refuel in orbit for long distance missions.fun fun fun.

Thought what better way to celebrate 50 years since Apollo 11 than to do a tribute mission. Slightly different design, just to simplify things.
1. Take-off
2. Reaching orbit
3. CM and lander in orbit around the Mun
4. Neil and Buzz EVA to board the lander
5. Lander away
6. Lander de-orbits
7. Approaching touchdown, some folk in Houston are turning blue
8. The Eagle has landed!
9. Planting the flag
10. Ascent stage
11. Plotting rendezvous with the CM
12. Docking
13. Boosting out of Mun orbit
14. Ditching the lander before re-entry
15. Re-entry!
16. Parachutes deployed
17. Neil, Buzz and Michael home safe
nice work -1. Take-off

love the external seats/hanger on to the lander!
ps - did they not splash down in the ocean at the end?

They did, wasn't going for super realism just captured shots as it panned out. I do like minimalist designs; hence the lander.
Might try to refine the design a bit. Amazing how much fun it still is.
i still from time to time make a numbnuts mistake of building a super all singing rocket/lab whatever get so caught up in the design and it all works well upto the rentry and then thinking about when to deploy the chutes - Doh No chutes. Might try to refine the design a bit. Amazing how much fun it still is.
Thankfully had a successful multiple bail out of a science lab and 4 kerbins utilizing their personal chutes to safely land. said lab didnt. funny how quickly a science lab builds speed after its survived reentry.
I haven’t played KSP for ages. I remember a mission to the Mun I carried out in order to rescue some Kerbals.
Early in my learning curve I landed a science lab with 20 Kerbals on board. Unfortunately, I neglected to give them enough fuel to come home! Poor Jeb.
Fast forward a year (real time), and I thought it best to bring them home. Cue one mother ship in orbit around the Mun with underslung 21 Kerbal rover, landing 20km from the intended site (whoops - never was much good at precision landing), driving to the stranded lab and then launching horizontally back to the mothership (left the rover in orbit) to bring them home. It was wonderful.
Jeb unfortunately died a permadeath in a later mission. RIP Jeb.
I also have some Kerbals stranded on Eve as my return stages weren’t man enough to return to Eve orbit, even after extensive testing suggesting otherwise.
Maybe it’s time to reinstate the Saviour Program.

Bit late to the party, but that's shift work for you.
This was my own flight inspired by the events of 50 years ago.
On the pad, all systems go.
We have lift off
Successful 1st stage separation
Interstage fairing detached
Successful 2nd stage separation
After a couple fo circuits in a parking orbit, time for the trans Munar injection burn
We're on our way, time to reveal the Munar Expedition Module
MEM successfully extracted
Slowing down for Munar Orbit capture
Jeb and Bill are settled in for the short drop to the surface
The obligatory flag plant
Rueful of the litter they are leaving behind, Jeb and Bill start their return journey to Munar orbit
Bob is happy to see Jeb and Bill's successful return from the surface
Might as well give the guys back at Mission Control a fireworks show
Splashdown (almost)

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
If they try to replicate the graphics in that trailer it's going to need a much more powerful PC than the original, but I'm heartened that the website mentions mods, which is what makes the game in my opinion

That's enough for me to ignore any news of KSP2 and wait for it to be properly released and reviewed before I get it. Q: What has Star Theory Games successfully released in the past?

I think when Kerbal 1 was first available to buy it so different and interesting that we didn't mind early access, these days (can't find the grandpa smilie...) people have been so burned by early access and we already have KSP 1 that a lot of people are going to wait until the first patch after release before buying it!Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
