Kerbal Operating System. It's a mod that lets you write scripts to control your ship. I absolutely love it but have taken a break from my current game as it's turning in to a software writing project, but on the plus side I can do stuff like this cool

The KSP forum is pretty good with a lot of tutorials and guides https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/

Loads of youtube videos about too, Scott Manley being the best known, but bear in mind a lot are for older versions so the mechanics will be the same but the details might vary a bit.

You mention scripts, are you looking at kOS?
Thanks for that... smile

I don't even know what kOS is! lol!
I didn't either. Turns out kOS is a virtual Operating System within the Kerbal world, where you can write computer programs yourself. I've read a bit and it makes my head hurt headache

My original goal when I first started fiddling with kOS was automated resupply missions that could land on a base like that, it evolved slightly to be a way of building modular bases.
I can land my single stage to orbit boosters on the runway but so far getting them down reliably on the launch pad has eluded me, I can get the bearing but not the range.
I ripped all my code apart to rewrite it as a menu structure where you put in a target and ask it works out the rest but it turned in to hard work biggrin

Out of interest, how much time are you putting into it?

Fortunately I bought the game from the KSP store not Steam so don't have a record biggrin

Quite a bit though. I was working away and weekly commuting for a couple of years so spending 4 nights a week on my own... Not played at all for a month or so now but will go back at some point. I've have been playing on and off for 5 or 6 years and spent way more time on it than any other game I've ever played.

It's a hard game to only play occasionally though as there's a lot to learn.

Seems there has been some skulduggery afoot with KSP2 development frown

Bought it for cheap in the Xbox sale. I haven't played it on Steam for a while so I need to start over, have some time with it and find what the gamepad controls are.

ooh, I played this a lot in the early days on the PC, until the game got so big my PC couldn't run it. Could be worth getting it on xbox scratchchin

The trouble with the console version is you don't have mods, which is what makes the game for me. Presumably manual flying is easier on a console though.

trying to dock ports was very tricky that is for sure. I tended to just use the mech grab to grab things ie for fuel transfers.

Does the PC version not support controllers?

Looks good. I've not played a while but keep meaning to back to KSP. In 2 minds about whether to buy it as soon as it comes out, or wait for the modding community to catch up though.

Back what I was playing it loads I was working away form home so had a lot of free evenings sat in a B&B, now I've moved house (to about 10 miles away from where that preview event was!) and the mrs has moved over biggrin

Watched a few of the videos from people who play KSP and got invited to EASA and read what people are saying on Reddit.

Looks like it's maybe a bit early to buy it unless you're super keen on supporting the development and want something with a surprising amount of stuff missing that you'd think would probably be there for the early access release.

Also the system requirements appear incredibly high so if you're expecting to use an average old machine that ran KSP ok you're probably out of luck. The sort of optimisation that gets around that isn't likely before the big list of features they still have to do.

Was excited and intending to buy it, but seeing that now plus the expected price, think I will be waiting.

I'm tempted to buy it and not play it for ages just for that. I think I paid about £13 for the original because I bought it pretty early. This is looking a lot more expensive though.

Agree with the above about performance too, one of the benefits of the original is you can run it on a potato until you get up to really big ships or lots of mods. But the original had some issues that seemed to be unfixable due to limits in the engine (wheels being a bit one), so hopefully they keep the charm of the original but get the benefits of a more modern engine behind it.

I got into Kerbal from this site as someone posted that they had managed to get their Kerbal up into space and then another poster siad their Kerbal and was x 0000 km away from earth and then another say opps could not get him back and was drifting lost in space.....
got me looinking and playing the game. Like Rizzo said I paid very little for the game and had immence fun and hours from it. Thus have no hesitation in buying the KSP2 in a few days time and hopefully will enjoy it.

My PC does dominate the stairs so no issues with running KSP2 although as in life Mooooor power is never a bad thing and in KSP is very true........ although brakes and a chute are important things not to overlook.

Although if you survive the re-entry and dont have a capsule chute you can as a last resort bail out your kerbal and use his personal chute in emergencies - does get tricky if you have 3 or 4 kerbals you are trying to manually bail out and some may not make it...........

I dread to think how many hours I have in KSP, and luckily can't easily tell as I didn't buy it through steam. I'm approaching 2500 hours on Factorio and I've spent way longer than that on KPS. Easily the best value per hour game I've ever bought.

670hrs on KSP for me and 1300 for Hearts of Iron 4.

Thats some going with Factorio - not tried it as looks a bit mind bending.
