Is there a KSP fan at the Daily Mail or are they just idiots?

Scroll down to the size comparison picture...

I'm guessing they did a google image search for 'SLS size comparison' and picked the one with the largest number of rockets. Unfortunately it was from here!

I had no idea there was a KSP thread on PH! Love this game - have put in (wasted?) 200hrs into this game. The only game with more is War Thunder, also a terrific game.

Anyway, has anyone any tips on getting to Eve and back using the stock game? I can't build a large enough ship without my computer lagging itself into oblivion due to part count. Getting off of Eve's surface is ridiculous.

My current strategy uses a launcher stage (enormous), a fast transfer stage (remnants of the launcher re-fueled in orbit), a slow transfer/return stage (nukes) and a multistage lander. However, although the multistage lander alone is capable of reaching a 250km orbit of Kerbin, it is nowhere near capable of reaching Eve orbit, where space begins at 100km IIRC.

Has anyone completed this?

Im working through career and only just heading off to Duna! ive been once before in Sandbox, but it was very inefficient and took ages!

I did watch a video of a manned Eve landing and take off from sea level. the ship was massive and must have had around 6/7 stages to get a simple 1 man capsule to orbit! - The Delta V requirement for Eve orbit (100km) is 6000!

My next mission will be placing a flag on each of Jools Moons, The addition of mining makes this easier!

I've done the Mun, Minmus and Duna in career. My Duna mission was better than my sandbox trial run! I used a multistage lander there too. Eve may require an orbital station so I can refuel a ludicrous lander in orbit, however I'm not sure I have the sufficient funds! Currently working on an SSTO to ferry parts to the Mun as a checkpoint/re-fueling station.

Open question to the house: what has been your best/most successful mission to date?

1.1 update, and its discounted on Steam until Friday. New version runs on Unity 5, so should be faster and a little bit shinier, has an updated UI, 'KSPedia' for information, and new tutorials.

There goes my hope of finishing X-COM Enemy Unknown any time soon then.

Not played KSP in a while but a new version means time to start a new game.

I was getting a little bored of KSP - I had a career mode and had far to many flights in progress and redundant satellites, (running the remote tech mod) that i was overwhelmed with it all and could never settle with what to do.

So this is a nice opportunity to start fresh and being a bit more methodical with my launches.

Early reports are thats its pretty good, the update was to switch it to unity 5 and generally stabilize it.

I've played 1.1 in pre-release form and it's pretty nice to play, much more so than before. I get >20fps on big launches now!

The game crashed twice for me last night.

But I'm having problems with mods. I installed 1.1 and copied the game data folder across. But I have mods missing (alarm clock for example) so il have to sit and check through them tonight.

Getting a graphical issue when I use the materials bay, as the doors open to run a test, the dialog box flashes quickly until the doors have stopped moving, this could be a setting issue.

Very few mods for the previous version should run fine on this version as the whole game engine is different. I wouldn't copy your old gamedata folder over but download any mods fresh. However it may be a while before they're all upgraded. Presumably quite a few of the modders were in on the pre-release though to try and get them updated in time.

I see with the release of v1.1 they have massively improved the tutorials and now have instructions and reference materials that are accessible in-game.

Yup, on my low spec machine I'm now getting nearly 10fps at launch. biggrin

Parachutes seem to be deployable at much higher speeds, which makes the early game a lot easier. Only a couple of flights in so far and there's a few nice interface tweaks but nothing else majorly noticeable yet.

KER, ScanSat and RemoteTech have all been updated for 1.1 already so I'm happy.
