I haven't been invaded once yet, is it something that is triggered at a certain point in the game?
I only started getting invaded after returning to the Tower Of Flame. I popped back to do the Blue Cathedral and found a summon sign there. I invited a spirit to my game and whopped him, as he had left a red summon sign down by the bonfire. The second time I was invaded was again at the Tower, this time not by choice!

I think the first NPC invasion comes after the Belfry Gargoyles, in the pit with the dogs.

It seems to have been a feature that has been switched back on, more than anything. In some of the blogs about the game, writers mentioned the curious lack of promised invasions. Well, they're back now...! I had someone invade me last night whilst I was in the Huntman's Copse. He ended up dying before he got to me, I presume he was poisoned or killed by an enemy on his way to me.

I'm in the Lost Bastille, and have found the blacksmith behind the smashed wall. I've lit the torch and he has moved to his anvil just next to it, but he still won't talk to me except to witter on about the ember or some such. Is that it or am I missing something? Also, isn't there an NPC who must be released from this area whist you are in human form? I can't find him...
I don't think he will talk to you, or do anything for you, until you have retrieved the Dull Ember (which I think I read is in the Iron Keep) and return it to him. I haven't got there yet and I haven't been able to get McDuff to do anything for me either.
Use the bonfire next to his workshop to light the torch, then use your torch to light the brazier in his workshop. Rest at the bonfire, then head back into the workshop, McDuff will have moved off the chest he was sitting on, then open the chest and there is a hammer inside, which is a brilliant weapon.

Yay! After worrying about facing the sentinels from reading the previous posts here, I braved it, and solo'd them on the first attempt. What level and equipment were you guys using? Am I a gaming god or just attempting it later than everyone else? I was round level 80, using elements of the Drangleic armour and magic mace. That said, I did use all my estus flasks in getting through them biggrin

I was in the 60s when I faced them, didn't have the Drangleic set and used a short sword with a few titanite shards put into it, I couldn't solo the, so summoned help and crushed them with ease.

Sounds like I've done far too much grinding then. Mind you, I'm forever in two minds which way to go next, so end up retracing my steps half the time. Just having a go at dropping down the well in Majula, and was doing pretty good until I got accosted by three guys at once and died majestically.

You can't over-grind really, every level up helps! I was in the 60s when I beat the sentinels, I'm in the 80s now and I've just beaten the sinner, so theoretically I could have gotten to my current level without beating the sentinels.

I've just headed down towards the sinner... currently getting mullered by those beasties just after the lift. Clearly my gaming skills aren't as good as believed about an hour ago biggrin

They are useless. Just strike once, step back and repeat. Watch out for their tail strikes and hit them twice them they fall over. Also, the room on the right of the water filled corridor has an illusory wall at the back.

I'm currently at about level 110, in the Huntsman's Copse.

Oooh, I missed that. I'll have to go back and investigate. Do you remember what was in there....?

EDIT: Just checked one of the wikis and spotted that it's the Northern Ritual Band and a Bleed Stone

Are the summoning parameters the same in DS2 as DS - i.e. within 10 levels of your own? What you say is quite correct, save for the potential complication that if you level too much, too early, compared to the "average" player you may well find that there are few summons available if you're way over the "average" level for that area.

I'm currently around 80 and have just beat the Sinner too. I'm scouting around the Shaded Woods and Huntsmans Copse before deciding which of the two to progress through.

I'm in the Copse now. I cleared out the blokes on the pillars this morning. They're not so scary once you learn to draw them out one at a time. The ones with the whips are useless too. So that leaves me a clear run over the bridge to the Colosseum.

However, I've gone the other way, over the iron bridge which you need to lower yourself. I've killed the Necromancer in the cave, unlocked the third bonfire and just killed a computer controlled invader before I switched off. I think I'm around level 110 now.

I flattened the Skeleton Lords the other night. Relatively easy going, I had them whooped on my second go. Upon entering the arena, I'd recommend going straight for the skeleton on the throne in the middle. Hit him hard as he stands up and you'll probably kill him before he can even stand up. As a result of him dying, a load of pinwheels spawn.

If you can trash these quickly, using the pillars of bones to recover estus, you can get back onto the other two skeleton lords who are easily trounced. They just spawn piss easy skeleton warriors when they die.

The chariot seems much tougher, though the hardest part is getting to the level relatively unscathed. I did manage to knock the rider off and fight the horse last time, where I was giving it a good pasting until I wandered back towards some skeletons I had left behind which killed me.

Skeleton lords crushed on the first attempt. As Baryonyx said, rush in and hit the skeleton in the middle as he gets off his throne (he died in 2 hits from my craftsman hammer), then back up and lure the pinwheels, bounce them off your Drangleic shield as they charge then kill them as they recover. Kill another lord, then dart about killing the spawning skeleton warriors. Finally, kill the last lord and then hit the skeletons that spawn as they are constructing themselves, they can't fight back and will fall easily. The last batch of skeletons didn't even enter combat because I killed them one by one as they underwent their spawning animation. As far as Dark Souls goes, this is an easy fight.

Anybody else get the "I really don't want to go through that grey misty door" feeling, followed by running off retracing your steps and looking for other places to go? Or is it just me? Really liking this now. Managed to dispatch the skeleton lords, gargoyles and the sinner on my last major session.

Just been through the misty forest area very tentatively.

My worst enemy seems to be myself getting over eager and running in, getting surrounded and then mashed from all sides by various enemies.

Also had my first few proper invasions in the gargoyle tower. Absolutely trounced by one chap, I could barely touch him, and he seemed to backstab me from the front which was odd. Scraped through against two that invaded together though, and then I quickly ran away before I got punished by the next one.

Love this and the rest of the series for making you think about what you do next and not just plow in everywhere.

I am in Sinners Rise at the moment, about level 80. I have no problem with the big Quasimodo monsters, but keep getting repeatedly killed by that stupid exploding mummy that sits on the steps! He flops under the water so I can't target him and blows me up about 1 in 3 times. I have resorted to grinding this area clean now so I can get a few clear runs at the Last Sinner, who I am finding really tough.

LOL at LL smile

I despatched the Lost Sinner (Last Sinner?) last night with help form a couple of phantoms. The summon mechanic is brilliant, the game is seriously challenging but there is an assist option if you get really stuck somewhere which avoids too much frustration. It's such a big game (and I don't get enough time to play it) that I tend to summon after four or five unsuccessful attempts at a boss.

I managed to maintain my humanity all the way through the next section I tried, so I summoned some help with that snake boss that lives in a pit of poison - we all got completely hammered! I also think I wasted a Pharros lockstone, as it just filled up a tray with poison while I was standing in front of it. Mabe it has opened a secret door somewhere? Or maybe it was just a (pretty weak) trap. Who knows!

If you set fire to the windmill using a torch the poison clears
