Im on. Rick Paul
Took me a while to get into it but now am a big fan. Found the paying for cars/tracks thing quite strange when coming from something like Forza.
What I actually found was an immense sim. I drove the MX-5 Okayama and Lime Rock for the first 6 months and still have so much to learn.
Only last week I decided to but some more content. Hope to explore some other cars but really like the simplicity of the Mazda.
Def up for some PH races. May evenm host. We should set up a club.

I just had my first race. A bit dissapointed. Went from 1st to last on the first lap thanks to some utterly spastic driving from my competitors. After 4 laps of being unable to keep my heavily damaged MX5 on track and realizing that the bloke that had spun me out was not only first, but coming to lap me I rage quit. I now have 38 minutes to calm down before the next one...
It's always better to take a tow in a situation like that then continue the race, nice and steady as cleanly as possible to get your safety rating up. Mine took a bit of a battering in similar instances until I read that tip. Now, on the first corner I hang back or take it way off the racing line then wait for the pack to thin out. Someone usually pushes or crashes causing grief for others.
I got my first second place last night, I'm finding I can run consistent 1.48's on Laguna and a fastest of 1.45 when I push it so I'm getting decent positions most races now, providing I don't cook it when I take the lead like earlier! It's surprising how many people you can force to make an error just by being within 0.5sec close to them.

My preferred tactic too. It's usually too risky to launch it down the inside. Get right in peoples mirrors, throw a few dummies and watch them slide off the track. It's so easy to lose it when your really pushing the car. The second race went marginally better. P2 from start until the last lap, when P1 made an error and I was able to secure my first win from my first finish. I'm well chuffed with that and think I am hooked! 
Does anybody have any tips for taking corner 9 at Laguna seca (the one that leads on to the straight before the corkscrew) they could share? I just don't feel comfortable taking it.

Not been on for some time but if I rememmber rightly full throttle, get over to the right hand side, think there is a 3 marker, off gas here. Fairly hard turn in, back on the gas and clip the inside curb. Much better to be too far in that too far out here. You need to carry speed through the corner and keep the speed for the hill. Tend to sit fairly central up the hill and off the gas before the crest.

On some of the earlier builds the DP would destroy its left front suspension if you ran over it!It is a tricky corner, I've only actually got it right a handful of times. Very frustrating when you're hot lapping.
The key to it is getting the turn in point right, but the apex visibility is not great so it can be quite a challenge. I think it's a case of practice.
I'm very tempted to take the plunge here. I raced on LFS quite a lot (if anyone remembers the CTRA servers), back before it got stuck in development hell and good racing seemed to dry up. Dabbled in rFactor but as someone said earlier here, dropping into a good race is very tricky and complex with mods etc.
Hunting for something immersive, gritty and realistic - proper tyre and damage models, real sounds, not the clinical GT5 rubbish. Funds aren't abundant but it looks like you guys have a lot of fun with the basic package so hopefully not much of an issue.
Should I? Or can it get repetitive or expensive quickly? What are driving standards like once you get your rating out of the newbie pool?
