Its all about keeping it clean at Bathurst.
I started a race the other night from the pit. Over the start line in 31st, after the first lap I was 21st, on the second lap I was 11th and then we were racing.
Eventually made it up to third rapidly closing on the leaders but I needed a another two laps if I were to win.
Like you, wasn't official either, mores the pity.

The SRF is a real pain coming down the mountain, very light but an absolute scream. It did seem to be hold back and survive the carnage for the first 25% of the race so that the dregs were sifted off and then get down to it.
I think I'm going to race the SRF this year, or at least see how it goes this week at Okayama. Practicing last night and not too far off the quali pace, so race pace should be good.

5 seconds off the pace at the moment. Which is an improvement of about 10s from my first cleanish lap in the Skippy.
Once I get consistent I'll start looking at car set up.
Does anyone find the Skippy locks up easily? I have to break really gently and people are flying past me/into me in the braking zones.

Adjust the brake balance. I was running 56 - 58 last season.
The Skippy rewards a patient approach and is very satisfying when it all clicks. I find being clean and consistent much more productive than chasing times, most of which that are posted are quali times rather than race laps.

Getting down to 2:11 on Watkins Glen now. Had a terrible race yesterday, had the leader brake very early which caught be me our, hit him and then barrier. Car was a dog, even after a repair and kept getting lift off overseer...ended up with 17 incidents just through spins and being disqualified. Oops.
Back on tonight....
Back on tonight....
That helped Red, thanks.
I'm struggling to get under 2.13. Had a good race last night though. Low grid position, a big shunt up front meant I hit one guy side on but limped back to the pits before finally finishing 5th overall. It's very much about being consistent rather than fast, most of the positions I moved up were because people fell off and damaged their cars.
Do you find the tyres going off near the end, last two laps were hairy.

After watching a few clips on You Tube I found the time could be found by braking much deeper into the corners, because they are open and fast it seems to work better here than at other tracks. Turn 5(?), the downhill left hander is a right pain on worn tires, feels like ice on the last few laps
Nice set up.
Just sold my Rift, undecided what to do next. Not really had the time the last couple of weeks. The Skippy is certainly interesting to drive and any off's punished with damage. Still a bit of a crash-fest in the lower ranked fields, the number of times I have had people out try to brake me and punt me into a barrier, I've lost count.

I had to take a few weeks away from the game just as I was busy. I did however watch most of the videos that Matt Orr has posted on Youtube;

and I have to say they have made a great difference to the way I now race. My incident count is way way down (apart from my last race) and I'm tending to think much more ahead now. To try and expand, if somebody is alongside, I'll be thinking how can I get back past them after the corner rather than trying to defend to the hilt. This saves contacts. Also, I can now tell if somebody is going to try a dive much better and allow for it, mainly by braking a bit earlier and driving past them as they struggle to stay on the track.
Well worth taking a step back sometimes and just seeing what others do and if assessing if it can be integrated into how you race. Plus it's a distraction at work....

I love Oulton! So much fun in the Skippy which is now starting to click.
After a horrid time at Suzuka and Road America plummeting my iRating down to a low of 800 and my safety to 1.01 I have climbed back up to over 1000 and 2.5 again. Phew. Nice to get the ratings up as it's really dangerous in the lower ranked races people taking you out in crazy passing attempts or strange braking points.

It's a very satisfying circuit when it clicks, isn't it. I managed to get a best race lap of 54.5 last night, but then screwed the pooch with 3 loss of controls in the final laps as my tyres went off (setup error, mismatched pressures each side). It's one of those circuits when you can rely on over eagerness from the opposition to gain some places.
Anyone else drive with one of these? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Namco_Negcon_cen...
Would upgrade to a wheel, but promised myself I will not get 'serious' about this!
As such, only driving in Mazda Cup, too... Had a magnificent dice for a win (my first!) last night, we must have passed each other 4+ times on the final lap. Again this morning, finished 3rd, hanging off the bumper of 2nd-place man after quite a thrilling chase.
It is quite nice how, even being 2+ seconds off the outright pace, you can still consistently battle for podium positions in most races. Great fun!
