Yes, still playing on a regular basis. Moved to using the OR DK2 which has revolutionised the experience for me and just ordered the Nixam brake mod for my G25 to see if improved pedal feel helps before considering either a load cell mod or going over to Fanatec.

Much improved in the Skippy, getting into the higher splits now so the racing is tougher but less people take you out.

I'm still struggling with iracing, doesn't help that I use an office desk setup with an unsuitable chair and a cheap dell SFF with onboard gfx, gives me a lovely 30-40fps out of traffic smile

I wasn't too fussed about upgrading anything but having used Driver swaps the wallets coming open!! loved the GT3 Teams series, even if at the minute you only get 13-18 teams involved, that's still 20+ drivers on the server and the racing's still fun.

I saw that. Lot's of trolling going on in the forums, as expected.

I've taken to modifying my G25 after seeing how much the step to the next level of kit is, Nixim brake mod and a bodnar cable. the Nixim has made a difference to pedal feel but the bodnar has made everything feel smoother. Well work the £50 or so and lots cheaper than getting into the Fanatec or other higher end stuff.

Doesn't stop people wrecking you though. Twice this week.

Have they got over their reliability problems?

I remember a couple of years ago they had a lot of issues and pretty much zero customer care.

I think that was more a case of those with an issue shouted louder and longer than those without an issue (who then seemed to be shouted down for not having an issue, bizarrely). There also seems to be a lot of 'in fighting' in the sim hardware world, which may have been a contributory factor.

I've got the V2 Clubsport pedals, a V2 Clubsport wheel base which has just replaced a perfectly good V1 wheel base and a Clubsport Shifter, which I have to admit I don't really use. I've had zero issues with any of it. Actually, that's not true, I had a pin break on a second hand wheel in the quick release mechanism, which turned out to be an easy fix and also the result of my useage of it (not using the locking pin). The V2 base is a massive step up over the V1 as well.

With regards to customer service, there was an issue with the motors on some of the V1 bases which Fanatec replaced, just not to the ultra speedy satisfaction of some. There were others who complained that a courtesy wheelbase wasn't issued whilst their own was away being repaired. I think there's no doubt that there will always be issues, it's low numbers electronic equipment, but the price point, or bang for buck if you will, sits well for me with the competition. I'd have no issues recommending them based on my own personal experiences.

As it should be for a grand.

I might consider it if/when my g25 bites the dust or I might just be bored of sim racing by that point. It's a lot of money to spend on a computer game.

Yep, it is, but I treat it as a hobby and decided to treat myself. My attitude after the last few years is I'm damn well going to enjoy any money I've got smile

Oh, I agree. And it's way cheaper than real racing.
I just think that as I find it hard to justify to myself I'd find it harder to justify it to the mrs. Especially as we recently binned off her flying out to Vegas to meet me (I'm working) as too expensive.

I'd consider getting a load cell brake next and then maybe get the v2 wheel only as the next logical upgrade.

I used a Logitech DFPro for a long time before I bit the bullet, first with the pedals and then later with the wheelbase. What was annoying initially was that I was much slower with the Fanatec pedals than with the Logitech pedals until I got used to the loadcell way of breaking. The wheel base was a natural progression after I happened on a good priced F1 wheel. Big big difference there, I was immediately up to 0.5 sec a lap faster. The V2 base, whilst not making me noticeably faster just yet (I still play on the TV with a wheelstand) has enabled catching slides etc far far easier and faster, so I'm much more consistent.

Saying all that, I'm still fairly crap wink

Good to see we still have a few people here who play this.

I also look at it as a hobby rather than a game. I recently upgraded to Fanatec V2's, could never go back now. I also have the Fanatec sequential shifter. I find their kit well made, and no complaints at all from CS, even when I had an issue with the courier (UPS)

I still paint alot in the sim too:

Using the rift has made a big difference to me. I was only on a single before so being able to look to the apex really helped, it also helps in racing as I can race closer to others you can feel the car start to rotate better visually in the rift and therefore catch spins sooner. I'm probably improving by 0.5 average per season in the skippy I used to run in the slow groups, solidly into good now and starting to worry the fast target times, I'll never make alien!

I'd like to try a Rift, but am concerned a bit about motion sickness as I used to suffer quite badly from it.

Just bought a years subscription for this, on steam. At first it felt awful, but after a little time spent playing with FFB settings it feels a lot better. I have had 5 races so far, 2,2,dnf,dnf,3. The 2 DNF's were due to somebody hitting me (Im not blameless, having reviewed the incidents I should have seen them unfolding and reacted rather than ploughing into the carnage in front). One thing I am looking forward to is getting out of the mx5's - Though Im not sure where I will go once I have a non-rookie license.

Any recommendations on my next series? Ideally something that doesnt require buying a ton of tracks.

Hello and welcome.

I'd suggest either the Spec Racer Ford or the Skip barber, both are popular series. As it's a 12 week season you will need to buy some tracks. The skippy is running 2 standard tracks the SRF 3.

Not sure about the set up for the SRF but in Skippy the aim is to run 2 standard per season. Then rotate others, but a track will always run for 3 seasons so if you buy Oulton, Bathurst and Spa you will get to use them into Season 1 2016. Then buy another 3 next season.

This is not a cheap game but it's the best online racing available and very very clean (generally). Try and buy via the website not Steam, you can get regular deals and discounts that way. If you can get a steam refund I'd suggest you try and buy via the website.

Any questions on the game itself, lots of knowledge here.

Thanks for the reply. I would of preferred to stay away from steam and go direct, but it was £18 for a year on the steam sale. Im not a complete novice to racing games, previously I used R3E, GSCE and GT6 (came 59th GTAcadamy) but Im not super quick like some online. I dont mind buying a few tracks, just didnt want to have to buy 12 tracks straight away, Im trying to save up and replace my dying DFGT.

I like the idea of the skip barbers, I can see myself getting waaaay too into this.

Do I have to participate in oval races too? Or is it seperate (One licence for road, another for oval)?

I think having finished that high in GTAcademy you should do well in iRacing. I haven't renewed my subscription there for a couple of years but I did have a lot of fun, I mainly used to drive the Daytona Prototypes.

Oval racing is totally optional, there's no obligation to take part. I've seen quite a few US based drivers with Class A oval licenses and rookie road licenses.

That's a good deal.

There are some extremely fast guys in the Skippy. A season is 12 weeks but you only your 8 best week's count so you can build it up over time. Lot's of people do that and keep at it in the lower divisions as well.

I don't do ovals at all, they are separate licenses.

Do the championship points count for anything? Or is it more a bragging rights thing? I need to read up on all the regs, as someone who does 10 races in a week with mid pack points is bound to beat a person who wins once a week in thier only race? Off to research.
