https://cadillaccupracing.com/ will give a 3 month free trial
Thanks to you, good sir, I'm now an iRacer too top man! I was reluctant to go straight into a subscription without being able to try it out first, but after a couple of days I'm a bit hooked and will definitely be renewing once the three months are up.Enjoying the MX5 greatly, Summit Point is actually fairly challenging and the number of committed high-speed corners means you have to be very mindful of your tyres' condition. I'm very impressed with the sound, great, and the physics seem quite fundamentally "right". It's unforgivingly accurate, which I like. I also like the way it operates, with scheduled sessions and so on, makes it feel that bit more real.
Car, helmet and suit now done in Gulf livery
I'm lapping around 1'25.0 for race pace, and can qualify/TT at 1'24.5 which I'm pretty happy with. I've had some issues with eejits in first-corner crashes and the occasional backmarker doing something really stupid to me, but otherwise it's alright. My SR is 3.6 and rising at the minute, happy days.
I'd like to move up to Class D quite soon, to get out of the slightly dodgy rookie grids, but looking at it, there are no Class D series that use only the included tracks and doing a season in, say, the CTS-V would need a serious amount of money spent on circuits! What's the best way to move forward?
Oh, and feel free to add me, too - Sam McKee
That's quick. I've not done better than a 1.26 on Summit. Spent 20 minutes watching lap record videos on youtube this afternoon to see where I'm going wrong. (serious stuff). One was a 1.22!
Had 2 races now, one where I messed up the start, didn't realise I had to click the grid button so missed 1st corner carnage and eventually battled up to 5, top finishing rookie. My 2nd race was 2nd on the grid and got punted off 1st corner. My 3rd I was further back, avoided the carnage up until just after the first fast left, someone had hit the dirt and taken out half the field. I saw what was happening until getting to a car sat in the middle I went left and another car did as well, punted me off, write off towed back job.
There are loads and loads of ovals. I'm a bit worried it will get expensive out of rookie season.

Thanks guys I'm usually alright so it's nice to be on the pace here too.
Just finished a race now, where I was on pole and slipped into gear on the reds schoolboy.. Except when I came in for my stop-go, the bloody crew started doing work!! I believe they changed all my tyres, and were starting to put fuel in before I managed to get to cancel that! Insane, is there any way to set it up so that the default pit settings are "do nothing but fix damage"?
Anyway, after that cost me a good thirty seconds (and fifteen more than necessary), I managed to battle back through all the way to second, setting a PB of 1'24.323 on the way. That was satisfying
Interestingly, this race seemed much cleaner than others, and I noticed the strength of field was 1266 rather than the usual 11-1200 I get, perhaps you're right about the iRating helping get me into better races. I just noticed the inRacingNews, and that'll be my next step, "advanced rookie" says to me "still no purchases needed, but safer grids", nice. Thanks for the tip!
It looks like $100 if I want to run a season in something like the McLaren. Steep. Admittedly a damn sight cheaper than doing it for real, but still! I think I might end up running whole seasons in the MX-5s, most likely inRacingNews, and then jumping into the CTS-V when there is a string of tracks I have.
Or I could eventually dig into my dusty empty student pocket and start buying some stuff..

While you are on the grid with no lights flick onto your tyres and fuel black boxes and uncheck them. I think it's usually F5 F6 but I've set mine to G27 buttons now.
What wheel are you using?
With those times your irating should rocket. Don't forget SR is most important and will give you access to the different series. Always qualify!
Skippy is quite an interesting car. That has a few of the free tracks in the series. I occasionally dip into that when one comes up and then back into the Mazda.
