Good point, I usually do it when things have calmed down after the first lap, but if I'm busy or going in straight away then it's easily forgotten! Thanks for that. Can you really not set a default?

I'm using a Driving Force Pro, how the hell it lives on after five years of hard abuse I have no idea biggrin but I do have quite a few buttons I can map to it once I've worked out what I use most often. I'm a particular fan of the live relative timing!

Thanks for the kind words smile I have qualified for this one and start on pole as often as not, but my launches need work. My SR is 3.7 from six or seven starts, climbing but I managed to clobber a backmarker who parked on the line last race! I'm at the point now where, left on my own, I'll only make one or max two 1xs over a race. I did notice that when I get to 4.0 I get a Class D straight away, so that'd be nice, then I can start building that up and drive the Cadillac when circuits suit.

I'll have a look at that Skip thing too, cheers!

Just finished a race now, where I was on pole and slipped into gear on the reds hehe schoolboy.. Except when I came in for my stop-go, the bloody crew started doing work!! I believe they changed all my tyres, and were starting to put fuel in before I managed to get to cancel that! Insane, is there any way to set it up so that the default pit settings are "do nothing but fix damage"?
I did exactly the same thing in my last race and I've been racing for 2 months ish now! laugh

Had a quick crack at it last night for an hour before going out, managed to get nicely into the low 1.25's at summit point so I am pretty happy, I am aiming for the low 1.24's after the end of this evening and maybe do a race or two once i have the feel of the game fully again.

That might have been me, sorry about that. I'd just spun out after a bit of a battle with the next guy and was across the track and saw two cars bearing down on me. Nowhere to go.

Alex Clay.. It might have been, actually! I don't recall there being a car close ahead of you, but saw you losing it going into turn three and then came to a halt in the middle of four. In fairness, as I approached I was thinking "please don't try and move" because that can make things worse, but there was a bit less room than I expected on the inside and I managed to clout my front right corner. I'm used to right-hand-drive cars hehe

If it was you, don't worry about it, like I said above I'm the one who managed to hit you, not the other way round! Had someone I'd just passed breathing down my neck and took a quick judgement at how much I'd need to slow down. I was wrong. biggrin

ETA - Just checked, yep, 'twas you. Hope I didn't damage your car, mine was a bit beat up but still driveable!

Yup that was me. I saw two cars coming so though staying still was the best option, otherwise it was a case of 2nd guessing each other.

I'd been shunted off earlier in the race and needed repairs then had my tyres changed (as above) so I was just racing to finish at that stage, I'd had a few good laps and got cocky. It had all started to go wrong a long way back so my rival had got away by the time you saw me.

Guys...

Sorry to hijack the thread, but wondering what hardware you guys are using. I have been out of PC gaming for years, but an entry into real life racing has sparked an interest to get back to on-line to keep my hand in.

Thanks
Steve

My machine is slow by today's standards but with the detail turned down, I can get good framerates, sometimes over 100fps. I'm also running at quite high res. - 3840x1024.

I have an Intel quad core 6600, 4Gb RAM and an nVidia 8800GTC OC.

Mine is 6 years old.
1680x1050
Dual Core 2.4Ghz
AMD 5770
3GB RAM
Vista
And I get 80-90fps on that

Just ordered a new one and it should arrive in the next few days.
Basically it runs well on a surprisingly low spec machine.

Almost exactly this for me, though 8GB RAM (blame lots of CAD work for that) and only a 256MB 8600GTS. I'm on the second lowest detail setting and get 80FPS all day long, it's really not a graphics-intensive screenshot generator and anything but a boggo laptop should do fine smile

Wow.. INCREDIBLY excessive approach, that.. Stuff like the idea of the game starting to support three threads rendering dual-cores useless?! Is his criteria 100FPS on full settings with a 22-car grid, or what? hehe

I find the best racing in the Grand Touring Cup. It runs the mx5, jetta and the Pontiac Solstice.

It's a good intro into multiclass racing, it's just a shame that this seasons schedule is junk. Hopefully will have some decent tracks for season 3
Mike M I presume? I agree about the iRacing Grand Touring Cup, love starting at the back int he MX5s and working a way through, great action

Might have to dip into this Grand Touring job when tracks I have appear smile

What's a quick MX-5 look like around Okayama International? I actually thought this would be too long a circuit for it, but I like it, quite technical in places and flowing in others. I'm definitely starting to take more liberties with the car, too, trailbraking and some little exit slides going on. Did a 1'50.4 on the way to a win last night, but no idea if this is quick or not!

I just moved from the mx5 to the skippy, it's great! The series uses a lot of the free tracks and I purchased spa and Suzuka, this gives me a fair chunk of the seasons tracks.
The racing is much better than the rookie series I find. I plan to do a couple of seasons of this before moving onto the McLaren or Corvette.

I only just got this yesterday. My god its a different kettle of fish to forza!

I mainly did practice for a few hours (with my trusty mx5) but at the end of the evening had enough courage to do a race. It was terrifying in a way no other 'game' has been before. I was so scared of smashing someone up - in the end someone rear ended me on the first corner when I was in 4th and I managed to finish a lovely second to last biggrin

To be honest it felt like a MASSIVE achievement just finishing the race.

I. am. hooked. hehe

I think ill stick with the mx5 for a while and see how I get on. Itll take me a while to progress I think.

Is anyone else using the official xbox wheel? Its not too bad actually apart from no clutch and proper shifter so I have to use auto-clutch. I think it must take away from the experience beacuse shifting manually must be brilliant!

How do you use the MS wheel with a PC? I fancy getting a PC for some proper sim racing, but I won't be able to stretch to a proper wheel set up yes. In fact, i've not got much of a clue about a decent desktop setup, i've not owned one for several years. Any suggestions?

Thanks muchly.
