I'm in the same boat. My Striker set gives me a higher GS but, I much prefer the Sentry set which has me at about 194.
This morning was the first time I've (legitimately) even set foot in the incursion. I only got to wave 4 (admittedly solo) but, the idea of challenge mode doesn't fill me with confidence!
I don't really feel much incentive for the gear though. I've got the lower score stuff (ie. not 240), half of then from blueprints. So, already I can enjoy the perks they bring. Attempting challenge mode for the same kit but, with a higher GS doesn't motivate me. I won't get any extra perks, just a higher number by my GS rating, big deal!
The difference between 'the maxed out exploiters and the rest of us (I did exploit, but not very much) only really matters in the Darkzone, which is somewhere I spend as little time as I can. Having said that, my stats aren't terrible (240k dps, 68k health) but as I don't actively PvP, it makes no difference tome what gear other people have. I'll catch up with them eventually but, even if I don't ,it doesn't really bother me - as long as I still get to run around and kill stuff, I'm pretty happy
I've got 1 piece of 240 - Sentry holster and it gives you about 100+ extra over 214 gear in each firearms and electronics (670 odd in each) and approx 200 over 191 gear. Not huge but does add up.
I think this game would benefit from haing it's own Gjallahorn, something people actually feel motivated to play for!

So I'm trying out matchmaking missions for the very first time. I want to do challenge but thought starting on hard would be the way to go.
Roof top relay sorted in less than 10 minutes. Police Academy - my matchmaking team stay up top whilst I go down to start the mission in the underground carpark.
I'm used to PA on hard, done it loads of times solo. 3 x the usual number of NPCs come out (normal I guess for a team of 4), my team still stay up top. I'm thinking 'what the hell'. Then NPcs start coming down to the car park from above, so I'm in a sandwich with nowhere to go. I get revived and find that the mission is going on from 2 sides, like finishing with Hutch on one hand and just starting on the other. Totally weird. Also the NPC in matchmaking take a lot more rounds to down than when playing solo. I usually take 10 rounds from my Navy in solo, but took 20-30 in team. Is this normal?

Really love this game, I don't get to play much, maybe a few hours a week so I'm barely level 9.
Glad it's less glitchy now, got pretty frustrated not being able to get into it for days, then getting stuck trying to move to Manhattan and finally this horrible lag - put a full clip into some charging Geezer with a bat, nothing, not a thing happens to him, then he hits me before finally he works out he's been given the 30 rounds from an M16 at close range and dies.
Just seeing the 'dark zone' on my map and building up my base of operations - but I admit all the crafting stuff and upgrading kit is a bit beyond my capacity to care about.

I'm in a similar boat, although level 17 atm, but crafting etc just seems a bit daft, nothing I have blueprints for is any better than the stuff i've picked up throughout missions etc.Glad it's less glitchy now, got pretty frustrated not being able to get into it for days, then getting stuck trying to move to Manhattan and finally this horrible lag - put a full clip into some charging Geezer with a bat, nothing, not a thing happens to him, then he hits me before finally he works out he's been given the 30 rounds from an M16 at close range and dies.

Just play the game, make sure you clear each area completely before moving to the next (there's a perk which shows everything on the map once you've done the main & side missions), eventually you'll find the gear/weapons you'll need to keep going.
I'm finding wondering round popping people with the pistol quite entertaining, especially if you have the perk to regain ammo for your primary weapon.
A decent pistol, smg & marksman rifle will have you set up for most eventualities... hell, I don't even bother with the water/soda stuff or grenades as i usually forget.

I've not really used an SMG since very early one, I've got a Pistol I never use, an Assault Rifle (M4, FAL type thing I keep swapping them) and a Sniper Rifle. I was using a M1A lot, it was brilliant short-range as a semi-auto rifle and for sniping - but once I got to Level 8 or so it just didn't have the power, 1000ish hit points for a head-shot, the Sniper Rifle I have now does 4000ish, but I'm just getting to the point it's not much use - it's not powerful enough to drop any mission baddies with a single shot and the rate of fire is too low and it takes an age to re-load. I'm hoping to nab and M14 soon.
To be honest, until you reach level 30, you're better off simply swapping your guns as and when you get more powerful ones drop. The M1a is a beast but, if you've outgrown it, swap do something else and wait for a better M1a to drop - it will eventually. SMGs are so far the better primary weapons in the game, you should try one. Put a mag on it t hat extends the ammo capacity though as some of the early versions have a woefully low default mag size.Ubisoft don't want crafting to be the focus. After the next patch, loot drops are due to improve significantly. For now, at the level you'rew at, just play the game and use the loot as you find it.

I was exactly the same, upto about level 10. Unused pistol, crap assault rifle, crap marksman rifle.SMG is the way forward.
Don't be afraid to go back to the start & redo everything, it might get a bit boring, but it get your level up & give you chance to loot stuff you've previously missed.

Now level 13 and using a better M1a, a decent Assault Rifle and I do now at least use the pistol as/when one of those twunts with the riot shield charges me.
I tried an SMG, a Tech-9 but they call it something else in the game - "Converted SMG9 or something" It doesn't really suit my style I think, I don't like getting that close to them - I'm getting pretty good at hitting the gas tanks and grenade bags with a single shot at the moment from a decent distance away - I'm fairly proud of that given I'm using a controller on the PC version. I've got a Burst fire MP5 I can use, but it's only level 8 or something.
A brief resurrection of this thread. I started a 3rd character about a week ago to help a friend out who has just got the game. It has reminded me how solid the pre end-game content is! I'm really enjoying the process of levelling up again.
This morning was spent doing the Napalm production site mission (level 10) as a level 9. Matchmade with a random level 10 and off we went, into battle. That last bit with the flamethrower dude is tough when you're under-levelled and we died many times! But, we dug in and fought our war of attrition and ultimately emerged victorious (literally 2 minutes before I had to go to work - phew!!) Haven't has so much fun in the Division in ages!
Haven't logged into either level 30 character for ages, the endgame is just boring by comparison. This game badly needs a raid!

I haven't Been on for a month as I've even on my honeymoon in Bali, I hope Singh and kaney and the group are still playing when I fly back this weekend... Not looking forward to tomorrow, 29 hours door to door...
That lot haven't played in weeks - they ran out of content, got all the gear and then all stopped playing practically overnight! Think they've been on Overwatch recently.29 hrs door to door?! Rather you than me mate!

Yes, thoroughly enjoyed the Overwatch beta and have missed it (not expected). Also gone back to Rainbow 6 as the new season is out and Kaney dropped me a message to download table top racing. Like Micro Machines apparently.
Will probably fire this up on 24th when the new update arrives. Not really been following what this entails though.
Didn't realise you were in Bali, dude. Hope you enjoyed the big Bintang and surf.
Started playing this a few weeks ago. Currently level 12 and have done these missions and encounter things all on my own so far. Had one tricky part trying to take down some chap walking slowly with a flame thrower but after 15+ deaths he finally bit the bullet
should have ps plus back this week so will crack the latest mission with other agents to see how it feels.
