I've not pre-ordered but I will definitely be giving the beta a go at the weekend. I still have my doubts as it doesn't have a proper PvP element which I love but willing to give it a try to see if the PvE interests me enough to buy it.

Played for about an hour (PS4), it's taking me a while to get used to controls etc, and understand what I'm supposed to be doing, but can see I'm gonna enjoy it.

Think my main problem is that I spend so much time looking at the scenery I'm not actually concentrating on what I'm supposed to be doing smile

Definitely a co-op game though, played it with a few mates and it made it so much better, although not sure how it will work when going online with others that have progressed further in the game - do you still get the same missions / things to do?

It's good fun. The gunplay is a bit crap compared to Destiny and the grenade / items controls are clunky. Its frustrating that enemies generally lurk beyond the range of controllable shooting and you end up spraying with lots of recoil. The guns you're given (M4 etc) aren't really suited to the task of picking people off carefully. It doesnt help that thugs in hoodies appear to be massive bullet sponges who can take 20 hits from an automatic and still run around. The Darkness Zone stuff is good fun but rather hard to follow on the radar, which could be better done. I presume the actual release will explain how it is supposed to work better with a tutorial

Is it me or does this new beta look better? Seems like there's more fog, more snow, more lighting effects. When it's snowing really heavily and there's fog the lights from police cars and street lamps blend really well together. Top marks for atmosphere

Played the beta for a couple of hours tonight with 2 other friends, so far I'm not really sold on it.

There's too much clutter. So much information is on the screen (espesially in small writing) it looks a mess. you can't really keep up wih everything that's going on. In the time that i've played it there's still plenty of st I don't understand.

As some have said, gun fights are unusual. I find it strange in a game how you have to empty half a mag into someones head for them to go down. but hey, that's there mechanic.

It seems like a grind fest. I know this is only the beta but I have a feeling this is a game that won't have much depth to it. I've not played (or know anything about) destiny but this game seems like a complete grind. Go there kill/activate/do this, get XP. collect that. level up. buy his, unlock that.

Another big fail for me which they really need to fix and offer an option to change in the HUD menu is the white crosshairs. It's really hard to see where they are in lots of the outside areas. I found myself frantically waggling around just to get a bead on where my crosshairs were on the screen. They really need to offer options for other colours or make them dynamicly adjust

Agree with you on this. I've only played a couple of hours but I've already emptied a clip into the scenery on more than one occasion because I thought the crosshairs were somewhere else

I quite like it so far though. Done the first mission solo but it's clear already it would be better done as part of a squad and that might limit longevity for me if you get to a point where you really HAVE to employ additional team mates.

The cover mechanic is a bit clunky, I seem to get stuck to the environment when trying to escape a grenade and when an enemy gets in melee range, I seem to get battered before I can react. The M4 reload time is far too slow although I realise this is part RPG and so this may become upgradable

Also, the sidearm toggle (hold triangle) doesn't work for me for some reason

It's not hold. It's double click. Confusing if you're used to Destiny!

I'm still a bit on the fence.

My initial experience of the game wasn't a good one as I accepted an invite into the first mission but wasn't aware it was on the 'hard' difficulty. As I hadn't figured out any of the controls at that point, it did not go well and we just got overwhelmed repeatedly as the NPCs constantly spammed us with stun grenades (sorry Britvic!)

Having now played through the missions a couple of times and done the various side missions, I'm still not completely sold. The controls seem clunky although, I quite like the shooting mechanics and the missions were quite good fun to play with friends. I can't help feeling that this may suffer from the same lack of content that Destiny did. You'll complete the finite missions available in a relatively short space of time and all that will be left to do is either PVP (Dark Zone) or repetition of existing content for XP.

I've not ventured into the Dark Zone yet so, maybe that'll change my mind but, as it stands, I won't be ordering on release, I'll wait to see how much content is available in the full game.

Well I have an hour on it and I might have some more later.

For a cover based shooter the cover mechanic is a bit clunky, the NPC's can take quite a lot of lead to the head before dying. Some of the mechanics need explaining a bit better it's quite busy on screen and confusing.
The menus seem a bit bust as well.

I quite enjoyed it but I'm not sure I'll buy as I'm mostly a solo player and it looks quite squady.

Spent another couple of hours on it this afternoon and I'm less than convinced now if you intend to play it solo. Tried to do the second story mission (the power one) only to get defeated by the Cleaner boss several times at the end. Level 6 enemy and I'm a level 6 agent yet I could barely damage him. Couple that with ridiculous range of his flame thrower and the DPS it puts out and I'm out of bullets before you know it.

Doesn't help getting stuck on the environment when trying to escape too.

It's clearly pitched as a squad game that you can try and solo if you want, rather than a solo affair that you can bring your mates it to play too.

Not tried the Dark Zone yet, but PvP ain't really my thing. Nope, won't be a preorder for me, I'll see what the finished game looks like I think
