Odd thing, VR. Not tried Alien Isoloation, but there are tense/scary parts in HL2 where I've come out of it feeling stressed out.

Alien on the oculus hehe

"I am actually annoyed at how scary it is, I feel like I have wasted money because it's about as enjoyable as being repeatedly punched in the balls".

Whoa has anyone squished their face up to say their iPhone on one of the oculus YouTube videos?

You can do like a magic eye trick and it blends into one sort of 3d image! Squish your face close to the screen and sort of go cross eyed before slowly moving it away from your face. Very cool.

Try it on this.

Bit of a bump for the Oculus thread - apparently the release date for the commercial version will be announced soon - but it will be some months away.
Another Alien Isolation video showcasing the rift

clearly a little more work to do but looks very promising!

Sorry no - it was from IGN or something similar. It said an announcement re the release date would be given soon - but that the release itself would be some months on from the issuing of the release date.

Hold firm, hold firm!

Project cars has been delayed and star citizen is a while off. Give Elite a couple of months to sort out some day 1 patching problems and get the proper OR and Elite at the same time.

That's what I am doing and I cannot wait. Plus it'll give devs time to update their games for the proper version should they need to.

Same here, I was tempted to do some PC upgrading but holding off until I can see what I need for decent Rift running. Really wanting to play Alien with after scaring myself silly on PS4.

Not sure if this is new or not, but I noticed under the Steam Sale they had a 'VR' subsection.

Can't be too far off, then?

I couldn't wait for the retail release so got a DK2 for xmas smile very impressed so far and having fun feeling seasick on roller coasters.

I never played the original Elite but from some of the vids I've seen of people playing ED using the Rift, I've just ordered a joystick/throttle setup and that will be me kept quiet for next week

I had a DK1, and have a DK2. Elite is the first thing i've tried where the Rift makes the game easier and better to play. i.e. the first time it is more than a gimmick.
It's still not great if you want to do trading, due to the low resolution and text heavy trading screens, but for flying around and dogfighting, you will be a better played in the Rift than out of it.

I spent 10 minutes the other night in an asteroid field, circling and skimming the asteroids with the proximity alarm blaring, but never actually hitting anything. That sort of thing is easy in the Rift, but close to impossible if you just use a monitor.

Have fun smile

No announcement at CES of CV1, i'm expecting Xmas this year at the very earliest, so if anyone is holding off the DK2 because they think the CV1 is imminent, it isn't.

Still quoted as being 2015, but I expect even if it does get a release then, you won't be getting your hands on it until 2016. Pre-orders are going to be through the roof.

Still, reports from CES are very positive. Just make sure you get a good GFX card - 1440P (or rumours of 1080P) @ 90FPS solid isn't an easy thing to get.

The DK2 is 1080 already.
It's not good enough, they need at least 1080 per eye I reckon (2k?) or even 4k for the same visual fidelity as a monitor. So the point stands, it's going to need a beast of a gpu unless they build some form of upscaling into it and that will push up the price.

Did you see they bought Nimble VR?

This could end up in development hell unless they get it out the door soon. You can be sure Sony are throwing resources at it and no telling who else. They could lose 1st to market advantage.

I often hear people speak about 1st to market advantage but I struggle to think of many products that have taken an advantage from being 1st to market?

Apple? ipod, iphone, ipad all defined a sector. Were they the first? not sure but the first to do everything right and grab the public's attention.

I work in b2b software and being first to define a sector or market means a lot.

Interesting point though.
