99% of people's PCs won't run it.
My PC is over a year old and I just need a £2 USB expansion hub for it to run fine.Take away all the non gaming rigs in the world and you take away 90%, think of all the machines in businesses still running xp, 2000 etc, there are millions and millions.
Of gaming rigs maybe 10% are ready, another 10% probably only need a GPU or CPU upgrade.

So I received my DK2 yesterday, got it set up last night and had a very quick play with it. First impressions are the screen-door effect - it's very noticeable. Anything I can do to reduce it? I have the A lenses fitted just now, I wear glasses but they're not a terribly strong prescription, is it worth trying the B lenses? Any settings I can play with in the runtime control panel that might help?
Also, I got it working in Elite Dangerous using 0.8 runtime and Steam VR. The display seems to judder a bit when I move my head, it's like the camera is stuttering a bit rather than the frame rate dropping, anything I can do about that?

Thanks very much. Can you vouch for that guide?I'm excited, but keeping my money until there are some user reviews in. I thought about a DK2 in the meantime, but getting one on ebay under £300 might prove tricky. It might sound odd, but I don't enjoy wearing hats, and headphones make my ears hot and uncomfortable so I do wonder whether I'll get on with it at all...
I hope I do, it's supposed to bring a whole new level of immersion for racing/driving games, and that's pretty much all I play nowadays.

At this rate this will be second coming and going of VR technology.
Rather than getting stuff out they've just kept changing the scope of the offering... it's not right just yet... we need to fix this... that... and we never actually get it!
Whoever is bank rolling these projects is living in a dream world if they think the first round of devices will give the returns they need to make money.
No doubt at this very moment the teams are now building in obsolecense so you'll have to buy a second device that costs them little to nothing to update to in 18 months time, but will cost you buying another device and engorge their profit requirements
I think I'll be avoiding the first few generations at this rate.

Yep I feel the same. Don;t get me wrong I'm really glad they are releasing it as it's creating a lot of buzz around the VR space which has been quiet for far too long. However I'll let the early adopters take the pain both financially and in terms of bugs\features on this one.
I'll be getting the one they release in a few years time that's half the price and twice as good.

I have a feeling prices will always be in the £500 range for a long time TBH.
I disagree, I bought my first flat screen TV for £1500 and that was after they'd been selling for £3-4k the year previous. You can now buy a 4k TV for £500.If there is one thing you can guarantee it's that technology get's cheaper and better. This is the first shot of the new VR wave. Increasing competition and cheaper manufacturing processes to make all the gubbins that go into a VR set will mean prices come down.
Also as the toxic has pointed out, at £500 they are an irrelevance bought only by the dedicated few, to make a real market impact they need to be £250 or less. Judging by the huge players that are getting involved in this space (google, apple, facebook) I can't imagine they are betting on a niche market.
Last week I build myself a new PC with enough power to support an OR. Without monitors, keyboard/mouse and speakers, it came in at just under £1400. But can you imagine little Jonny asking his parents for an OR ? How much is it little Jonny ? £600. £600 ? You'll have to wait a bit for that. Okay, oh, and by the way, my PC won't run it, I'll be needing a new PC - £1500 should cover it. Yeah, that's going to work.
